no doubt he would've retired by now if he's wife didn't die a few years ago.

By reilo Go To PostThink this is a pretty big miscalculation by the Times. Not only should they not have wasted money on The Athletic, but their sports page and what The Athletic does are very different things. This is to say nothing of the immeasurable damage that The Athletic did to local sports coverage over the last couple of years, which they then unceremoniously killed in recent weeks deciding that entire markets and sports aren't worth covering anymore.
As a big baseball fan, what they've managed to do to coverage of the sport is pretty tough to see and it's basically only saved by teams employing their own writers and reporters these days (which has its own major set of issues). Their gutting of their local beats has also significantly impacted the blogosphere and commentary around the game. This is only going to get worse as local papers continue to shrink newsrooms or disappear entirely.
Silicon Valley tech bros and investors are killing journalism in this country. It's very sad.

A complete rugpull and it's garbage.

By cashman Go To PostI cannae believe it costs 45 US American Dollars to attend summer league games
I went before, it's cool though cause you can just walk back and forth between gyms, two games on at once and the gyms are connected you just leave and watch the one in the main. It's a day pass, it's for all the games.

By reilo Go To PostJust another long list of corporations catering to the largest markets – which is what The Athletic specifically set out NOT to do. A complete rugpull and it's garbage. In that sense, their original pitch was always too good to be true. Pay $60 a year and get all of the best sports coverage for all of the markets and teams was eventually going to run into the money issue. It always seemed like a company imagined by tech dudes to help kill local news with the intent of it being sold; somebody can figure out the problem of how this thing makes money.
And then the NYT bought it and realized the only way to make this thing for their shareholders was basically to get rid of a huge amount of the coverage and keep exclusively the highly trafficked, big market sections. Like the Arizona Diamondbacks? Better hope the AZ Republic still employs a baseball writer, buddy.

Noone sets out to make something that works and is profitable, it's all about growth, scale, and profit-margins and the latter always wins out.

By diehard Go To PostLeonard Miller looks greatIt was honestly really weird that he dropped out of the first round (and wasn't even invited to the Green Room). He had by a good margin the best stats of any G League Ignite player ever.

A friend of mine that follows prospects far more closely than I do thinks that his injury hampered his self-creation that was seen in high school. Guess he's fully recovered from that injury, whatever it was.
Yeah, wouldn’t mind the Blazers giving him another opportunity at all. Nice kid, need a backup big regardless.
