Those teams were still much better than Dame's Blazers team this year. Pat Bev, Lou Will, Trevor Ariza, young Clint Capela... not guys that are going to set the world on fire, but we've seen a lot of those guys on the Clippers with zero stars around them win a surprising number of games. Dame's team this year is closer to the Rockets team the year before that went 41-41 with Harden playing all 82 games and barely made the eighth seed. Maybe if he were healthier he could have won 40 games and made the play-in, the Blazers were 27-31 with him this season and 6-18 without him and most of the games he didn't play were towards the end of the season when a lot of teams were tanking.
I mean you never want your peak to be 8th seed but I don't know if I would call that Rockets team minus Harden better.

It's an ass team but it was exactly the type of guys you needed to put around Harden. The Harden/Anderson pnr was ridiculously good and opened everything up for the Capela lobs. All RZA had to do was hit corner threes and Beverly just had to not fuck up

And it all gets pulled from escrow, anyway.
I guess this makes it so there is some more in-season roster stability as there is less room under the cap for trades.

I might be wrong but the old salary floor was calculated in April, so maybe that's why it benefits role players in that they'll get better contracts earlier rather than teams trying to take on salary dumps in February
