Just got up to the fight with the village chief, calling it a day. What a game.

Doesn't touch the original but this is firmly GOTY territory, though I still think I prefer FE: Engage as of now.

Hardcore done. Pro mode is gonna be a pain in the ass.

I think I might prefer this to the og, simply because I didn't hate the island, this time around.

Even if the bosses are better, two of them are annoying as all hell now, jfc.

edit: Fought Krauser with the knife, just because. Amazing. wheww

I am bad at this game even on Standard difficulty

What difficulty was the demo? Just took me a shitload of tries and resources to get through it in the proper game, only managed it by standing in the tower while waiting for the timer to expire, then making the floor collapse when chainsaw lad climbed up

The castle benefits a ton from the remake. Prefer the village in the original but so far, about half way through the castle, it's much better. Pacing, encounters, visually.

Ada's voice actor is weird. Seems out of place. Not bad, just... feels out of place with Leon and Luis still being quite video-gamey.

Story is unbelievably stupid, especially with that whole brand new antagonist shadow drop, but its hard to care when everything they throw at you works lol

I dont quite remember the OG but I feel like they made the Island arc actually fun

Chapter 5 at around 1:10:00. Lowkey might redo chapter 4, and just save right before the cabin, because holy shit.

I would say Ashley's AI is bad, but it's not that entirely. I don't recall how egregious it was in the og, but here you get punished really fucking hard for her lagging behind or being in the vicinity of enemies (even if she's close).

I don't like how she just sits there for like a whole ass minute, before she fully recovers, gets out of that animation, and then runs, instead of immediately getting up and hauling ass. They could shorten that time frame, and it would still be balanced.

It really wasn't an issue, playing regularly, but here...jfc.

Novistadors are really disappointing. Turned them into a barely dangerous annoyance that they have to spam to give them any challenge. Bet its the same dude who fucked up the drain deimos in 3 remake.

Made it to chapter 7, right before water hall, at like 2:20:00. If the run dies, it's probably because of cabin and not killing the garrador fast enough.

Worst change so far is that Leon doesn't kick the ganado over himself to hit the wall and break his neck anymore when he escapes with Luis

The Blighttown-ish fight was a bit frustrating, the dynamite explodes half a second before it felt like it should, especially since you can't thrown it back unless I missed that option. The quick turn is slow as shit on default settings, might change it to Circle so I don't waste precious split-seconds changing my thumb placement after doing it. Felt like enemies just kept spawning when the fight was over. as well. I love the post-fight calm of just walking around looting, and I couldn't tell if they were just infinitely spawning or being triggered by something.

Game has a hell of a way of making you think you're well stocked and then throwing something at you that leaves you with fuck all. The one chainsway guy outside Mendez's house ate up about three grenades, fifteen handgun rounds and ten shotgun shells

I think that just means you weren't damaging his weak spot(s)

I'm sure Eldritch knows the most efficient way to kill them off

Nah, Salvador is a whole ass tank. I dunno the proper way of dealing with anyone with a chainsaw, outside of doing what NiceGuy did. Upgraded shotty puts in a ton of work on the animal mask bros tho.

Finished the Village. On the whole I like it about as much as the OG, there are individual parts I like in the Remake more (cabin fight) and parts I prefer in the OG (valley fight). Seen plenty of people say the Village is the weakest part of the remake, which is the inverse of the original, so i'm very excited for what comes next

Been binge playing this all weekend. It's pretty damn great. Just got past the blood bridge part of the castle and have been enjoying how the game opens up.

Some weapon tips:
Once enemies start sprouting a second head the shotgun becomes pretty invaluable because you can just go for the leg/body and avoid the situation entirely most of the time. It also completely wrecks wooden shields. (Although if you're a decent enough shot the right leg is usually exposed for pistols) Great for chokepoint crowd control.
The second rifle you get is really great for medium-long distance use and I've been using a ton, particularly against enemies with crossbows.
TMP is great for certain bosses, Mendez in particular because they make the eye on his back a tight target and you can just spray him from above and get results.
This one is kind of a spoiler for flashbangs and I thought it was a great touch: they're instant kill for enemies that sprout a parasite head

Default is handgun. If there's a crowd getting really close, shotgun. If there's a crowd with some distance, TMP. If the plaga is out the head and i've got some distance, sniper.

Don't know why I bought the bolt thrower, but can't bring myself to sell it either. Only used it to kill a few crows. Handgun is basically a set-up for melee attacks and making them fall over, shotgun for emergencies, rifle when I need to thin the numbers and have a vantage point. Kinda wish I'd bought the Punisher early on, put too much money into the starting pistol now to get it.

Wish the bolt-action rifle didn't automatically force you out of the zoom straight after shooting, I want to see the result of my headshots innit. Only done one suplex so far, never find myself doing melee attacks from the back :(

The suplex is bad in this game both in terms of damage and visuals. The camera goes to shit whenever I do it lol.

I'm switching just to use them. 99% of the time, handgun into melee does everything I need. That's not a bad thing btw
