what a combination of clubs
FF pls hurry and catch up on love island.
Couple of things on city, I think they were poor today but it's been said many a time this season they looked more fluid last season. Really makes you appreciate how aguero was able to do both. Two seasons ago you'd never try press city because they'd simply play around you (unless you were Liverpool) but think teams know they can definitely be got at

I think this is the first season I have seen all teams be capable of playing against anyone. Obviously, not everyone is gonna dominate possession against the top teams, but clubs are not just sitting back anymore.
By Elchele Go To PostJoao Cancelo is so fucking good
Bayern is in shambles tho. WC really took a toll on the players.
He's so so so good
I think Marcelo is the full back that comes close in terms of technique.
I said before there's something going on at City
Why are Laporte/Dias/Foden/KdB/Gundogan on the bench
Cancelo getting exiled
Pep sounding more desperate each match
Halaand getting almost no service

I can’t find the quote here but there was something from Pep that basically said a manager can only get his players to buy into their message for so long.
Man United under Ferguson had players like Giggs, Scholes, Neville, Van der Sar, et al. who were important not just for their talent but because they were able to maintain their drive to succeed with United for so long.
I think City and Liverpool are both suffering from a lack of players who can maintain a level of servitude. At Liverpool, James Milner has been that character, but you need more than one. Players who can perform, yes, but more importantly instill an expectation among other players.
Liverpool have been rebuilding, starting from the front with Diaz, Nunez and Gakpo, and City with Haaland, but I think City will need a more thorough refresh to maintain the level they want. Neither team has a core of players that can continue without dropping their level.
I don’t think there is that much wrong at City.
They are five points off a team that until that Everton game were on 100 point pace.
I have never thought City had a good defence, but it is more exposed now with the quality of players at all clubs being better. Those few chances clubs had before that failed to convert are now going in.

City's best players have lost a step, some of the guys who would theoretically step up for them aren't working out, and they're having issues with Haaland atm. Based on his comments it sounds like there are disciplinary issues but hard to know for real.
No City is obviously still amazing and one of the best teams in the world. If they play to their potential they’re the best.
The expectation on them is that they are the best and don’t waver from that. My hot take is based around where they are relative to where their expectations are.

Just change Haaland for Leao and add injuries and the coach losing the plot.
I wonder how much the WC is to blame, if I remember correctly City was the team with the most players there.

100%. I don’t think it’s any surprise Liverpool are having a terrible year too, after a 60/65 game season last year and then the WC. Everything post-Covid has been compromised in some way.

We played every single possible game in every competition, won the trophy in two of them. There's no way that kind of season doesn't wear you out.
For clarification, I'm adding to your point, not contesting it
There's an air of something really being up at City, hard to nail down exactly but something feels off.
By Willkiller Go To PostThere's an air of something really being up at City, hard to nail down exactly but something feels off. This has happened to City a few times since being bought, then every time they've spent another 200m in the summer and the problem disappears. I'm sure it will be a similar tale this time around

They've been signing players on £200,000 week and paying them double using shell companies and fake sponsorship deals.
It's cheating, and impossible to compete with. The only reason anyone would sign for a club no one in Europe had even heard of.

Yeah man probably should have just linked the PL to Slaent, we've been saying their business has been dodgy for years.
That would have given them the legal basis required to get some consequences

Tories will be asking the PL not to punish them so diplomatic relations/London property deals remain sweet.
