McLaren the Brexit Ferrari, heads are rolling.
I thought Sanchez would have been an just addition to the technical team, but it is also James Key who got the sack. Don't know if a multiple tech people at the top, instead of a TD is going to be the answer for McLaren but we will see.

The usual Brit fantasy F1 world that sees the world through the eyes of Mercedes/Lewis, how is this possible?
Well,
RBR ran lower downforce/drag single beams set-up, fastest car on straight with or without DRS, followed by Haas and Ferrari (1 and 2 km/h slower) in qualifying. All those teams gained an almost similar amount of speed when opening DRS in Q. But lets instead look at some random race numbers, all influenced by slipstreams. (look at Piastri high up, because of a 2x DRS slipstream)
On top of that Honda has the best ERS system in F1, resulting in longer deployment of extra battery juice in race trim. This is specially visible at some tracks at the end of a long straight the end of the lap in S-A for example (speed difference bigger than in Q)
Mercedes forced to run slightly bigger rearwing, not enough downforce at the rear and as result with more drag was slightly slower in straights then their opponents in Q. On top of that the Mercedes main plain, compared to some others, has a slightly different angle of attack. This allows them to create a bit more downforce from it, at a cost of lightly more drag and lesser DRS gain when opened.
yep this must be some triple DRS stalling trick surely

I think right now it looks like we have four groups; RBR well ahead than Aston/Ferrari/Mercedes, than Alpine/McLaren/Alfa/Haas and last group Williams/AT, but with small gaps between them. See no real reason why this would be any different in Melbourne, one exception that this is more a Q track as it is hard to overtake even if you are faster (maybe 4th DRS zone will chance this) and again lay-out different then first two races (hopium?)
So guess we need something to happen to Max or his car for it not being another win for him. Another Fernando podium, if he can get a decent quali lap together, or can Charles take a good Q in to his first podium of this year.
Track always brings some surprises due to its lay-out, so can McLaren take fight to Alpine as McLaren was really fast here last year (Lando best rest, or local boy Oscar surprise?) . Haas good quali in to (double) points, or will harder Pirelli compounds this year give us some more stat and the 4th DRS zone some more overtaking.
Sunday looks dry right now, but maybe some drops on Friday/Saturday would love some rain to mix things up on this track.

Finally awake enough for the FP1-2 session results, messy sessions with early rain in FP2 so do not read to much in times, but
- Multiple teams were trying out the S-A or Bahrain rearwing downforce levels and the track being colder and lower grip as expected makes me believe we will see them all on higher downforce tomorrow (rear end to much sliding).
- As mentioned lot colder as expected and all teams were struggling to get tires in working range. Fastest laps on softest for example set in push lap 4, so that's gonna be an issue this weekend in Q. Don't think I have seen so many drivers of track in both sessions as there were today.
Wonder how they will try to solve that, extra warm-up laps or just fuel up and multiple push laps. Teams that struggled so far in the season with overheating tires will definitely have a plus here (Ferrari/Haas?) as they do get them in working range quicker than others.
Would say RBR still ahead, Ferrari closer over single lap specially if others will still keep struggling more with temp and Alonso also candidate for second row, cannot see Merc on first two rows based on today (tire temp). Tomorrow (if dry) FP3 and most set-ups more on the high downforce choice, we will probably get a better idea of a grid order.
And lot of talk about sprintrace weekends format, FP2 pointless and they might want to go for double Q sessions. So one for Sprint and one for Race, which would eliminate FP2 and gives drivers more freedom in Sprint as result is not starting grid. Not sure if Baku will be to early to implement as tires are probably already shipped and there will always be teams that rather have the uncertainty and not in favour of double Q (so would have to be pushed through by FOM?).

I have a feeling if the weather continues to be a little unpredictable as it has been, the race could be quite exciting. I hope at least.
FP3 from earlier today, bit more normal session, with some long-runs in the middle.
Front row between Max, struggling with brakes Sergio, Fernando and the Ferrari's (did their soft run earlier in the session, 2nd on meds). Last two races, RBR/Fer gained a bit more than Aston going in to Q, Alpine dropped back from Fp3 to Q, so not convinced yet they can challenge, would be great if so.
In the end it is going to be about tire warm-up and the teams cannot do what they did in FP3. A double warm-up lap and a 2nd push lap, just not enough time. If Max gets enough temp in the tire quick enough I think it is advantage RBR, but if not we might have a really close Q session, Charles 1st pole of season, or can Fernando do some magic, some rain to help it would be great for the race.

I dont understand why F1 can't show us the proper braking telemetry, cause there's no way these guys drive with either 0 or 100% pedal everytime.
They do it properly for the gas pedal
