This finished yet? Staying up to watch it but don't have HBO... Can't subscribe to HBO directly in Canada, need to first subscribe to the carrier garbage cable program and then in addition buy the HBO package. It's fucking ridiculous, I hate the telecom industry.

Guess we're officially at the point where a videogame's cutscenes can arguably look better than a big budget hbo show.

By domino Go To PostEllie is mad annoyingNot feeling her at all.
They missed an opportunity showing off how ruthless and terrible Joel and Tess are by letting them finish Robert and his goons. Other than that it's a solid start.

What are the odds of their being a Ted Cruz looking bloater in the series?
Mazin graduated magna cum laude with a degree in psychology from Princeton University in 1992. His freshman-year roommate at Princeton was Ted Cruz, now the junior U.S. senator from Texas and a former Republican candidate for the 2016 presidential election year. He openly despises Cruz on a personal level and frequently disparages him on Twitter, calling the U.S. senator "a huge asshole".

My big complaint is something I didn't think would bother me: the mouth full of noodles replacing the spores is fucking terrible. I hate it. It looks so bad.
I get that they didn't want masks to be a thing and just straight up biting etc is just a zombie trope they clearly wanted to avoid but every time they showed an infected noodling on someones neck... it was just shit.
Overall a decent first episode though.

I only watched like 15 minutes but I was hoping that was just how they started out and would eventually turn.
I don’t follow previews or anything but why keep something so dumb. Old lady looked like she was eating hay, I can’t take this serious

By MF Coom Go To PostCould they not have found a different looking girl? She looks nothing like EllieDoes it matter? They picked the best person for the role.

By Laboured Go To PostPascal really doesn't facially resemble Joel either, but people are eerily silent on that front.Pascal is great, don't really care about him not being 1:1.

The girl that played Sarah left a better impression after 1 episode tbh but I'll let Bella Ramsey cook

Great episode, don't care if the people do / don't look like the game, just play the game if you want 1:1.

By DY_nasty Go To Postcompared to halo this is great lolthats a very low bar.

i have no issues with the casting. actually thought bella was great as ellie.
my only issue with the show is its visuals. it looks a bit… cheap? i dunno, it has that clean digital look to it that makes it look too much like it’s all taking place on a set.
a more filmic (dirty/gritty/youknowwhatimean) look would’ve suited it better, i think.
other than that, good start to the series, and that ending made me look forward to next week.
hoping they make gustavo’s score pop a bit more in future episodes.
“it can’t last” (starts at 3:16 in the video) is so beautiful.

Thought it was pretty meh. The pre time skip stuff was well made. After i thought it was a bit boring. I doubt i will watch the whole season.
i feel the same way about the show and the games.

By DY_nasty Go To Postcompared to halo this is great lolby comparison it's the Sistine chapel
I can't believe they're letting Craig Mazin shoot an actual television show instead of recreating every cutscene in the game 1:1 and casting, as inky said, cosplayers
hyper fidelity without caring about the new medium sucks, "new stories in familiar worlds" bullshit like in Halo sucks. so far a good balance here.
I mean it helps that the game was already a result of druckmann being insecure about people not respecting his profession, compared to Halo: Combat Evolved which doesn't exactly feature the most nuanced and thought-provoking storytelling

I liked it quite a bit honestly, some really good work in this episode. Bella Ramsey has become a bit of a problem in my eyes, she just sounds weird and acts weird but I’ll keep an open mind.

There’s a corresponding podcast hosted by Troy Baker after every episode is aired. They mentioned that the cold opening was a late addition after the entire series had been filmed.

Quite liked the first episode. I think both Joel and Ellie are inspired casting choices and I think I liked Ellie more, precisely because she doesn't feel (or maybe I should say look) like a carbon copy of TLOU1's Ellie. But anyway, it's too early for such judgements, let Bella do her version.
I have two complaints. The first is the zombies. I actually didn't mind the noodles thing, that scene with the old woman was properly creepy. It's more about watching a well-written and well-acted and "grounded" show ... and then the fucking zombies come and they act just like every other zombie you ever saw and suddenly the whole thing felt really cheap to me. More of a passing sensation, but it rubbed me the wrong way.
The other is more of a "me" problem and it concerns the familiarity of the story being told. It's also why I very, very rarely replay story-driven games, even ones I really, really like. Once I know the story, how things end, a very significant chunk of the emotional impact is lost on me. The episode eventually managed to pull me in regardless, which is a good sign, it's just that I fear that I won't feel all those highly dramatic moments nearly as deeply as I would've not knowing where this is going. Hopefully the sum of all the little changes will help offset the dampening of feels.
All in all, I'm very much in.

I thought it looked expensive, especially if you compare it to the other shows in that post apocalyptic genre. They already had more city settings in 15 mins than something like the Walking dead has had in all it's seasons.

I'm in no hurry to tune in

It marked the largest debut after House of the Dragon since Boardwalk Empire launched in 2010.
The Game of Thrones spinoff made history last year by premiering with 9.986M viewers across linear and HBO Max – the largest audience for any new original series in the history of pay cabler.
Still quite a bit away from top spot

True but House Of The Dragon was the spinoff of one of the most watched TV shows in the world.
Day 1 audience accounts for 20 to 40% of the total viewership.
Numbers will rise a lot of the next days.
Still, a damn good debut.

Extremely impressive to me considering House of the Dragon has 8 seasons of GoT hype behind it. The original show became a cultural event. This is a videogame adaptation.

The infected don’t look like mushroom faces right away though. The longer they’re infected by spores the more fungus like they get
I liked the first episode a lot and it feels like they’ll stay mostly true to the game which is a wild plus
