I'm on the verge of tears like 40% of the time the past week or so. I just have so much to do and take care of that I can't take time to process and have a good cry, like ever. I've got therapy on Thursday but it might be time to get official diagnoses from a psychologist as well. I'm pretty sure I have ADHD-combined, with a strong bias towards impulsive/hyperactive types, but I'm sure there is also some moderate anxiety and depression in there, probably as a result of my ADHD.
In the past , the problem has been drs saying I can't possibly have ADHD since I can sit still and focus for the 30 minute video visit (one guy said since I can spell words backwards, I don't have ADHD), plus my current insurance won't let me be tested for ADHD until my pee is THC-free (which, unfortunately, probably won't happen. ever).
so idk y'all. life is hard, I'm poor, woe is me, etc etc. it'll get better and I've got some semblance of a plan to secure my future. it's just really hard to stay positive right now.

Are you trying to get a prescription in those sessions? Because it sounds like you'd at least like to see if it helps.
In my experience, you don't have to do much to get a script. I literally got one on my very first visit, there was no test either, just made up some bullshit about not focusing when I was young and it hurting my grades(was a straight A student), tapped my feet every couple minutes, etc.
Could just be anecdotal but these docs will use every and any excuse to push pills but I guess it might be different depending on your state(assuming you're in the US).
I've never heard of job insurance making you do a drug test, that sucks. I just scheduled a general appointment.

Yeah similar in Canada. Just ask and these doctors will give you medication for this stuff. Mine told me it’s an extremely common thing to have. I was given escitalopram which in the US is sold under the name Lexapro.
Life update from me. The last calendar year or so has been total miserable professionally, and for those that don't know, I teach high school, which is hard enough already. I've been subject to intense oversight: my lesson plans are being reviewed consistently, I'm being forced to meet with specialists and my admin for "coaching cycles," I've been berated and dressed down for bringing up real concerns (one of these involved me and another AP teacher being completely dressed down in front of the entire department and told that we were only concerned about high level students. Which is kinda our jobs, no?).
If I thought I was doing a poor job, I might get it, but the students I teach consistently get the highest scores on our standardized tests in the entire department and do just fine on the AP exams.
This past week, though, I let my friends at other schools know that I was open for business and actively seeking a transfer.
During an after school event, some students (including two of my own. They left me a sweet note afterward.) accidentally broke my classroom door. Hey, things happen, and at least my friends at the event were able to text me about it. I shot my principal an email to bring up the concern and ask what I was supposed to do as this is a real safety concern. They actually didn't respond at all, and the next day, my administration's verbal response was that they expected me to teach from my room with a door that wouldn't close or lock and dismissed my concerns about student safety by essentially asking if my door would really keep my students safe in an emergency.
Keep in mind, literally earlier this week, a student in a neighboring school brought things to make a bomb to campus. Welcome to teaching in America, y'all.
Fortunately, my friends graciously shared their classrooms with me and my students until this was fixed. I wasn't going to teach from a room with an open door despite what anybody on high wanted from me. If something would've happened, they would've immediately thrown me under the bus and blamed me for teaching from a room that had no functioning door. This is why they didn't respond to the email, so nothing would be in writing.
I basically spent the rest of the week polishing my resume and getting my references in order. One of my assistant principals agreed to be my supervisor reference, though I'm fairly confident they told my principal because I eventually got a bizarre apology email that chalked the lack of a response up to being in a bad mood because traffic. Surprisingly, I didn't respond.
So I don't know where I'll be at next, but my wife has basically forbidden me from renewing my contract at this school. Pray hands up that I get some good interviews lined up asap.

I wouldn't either fuck all that energy. Good luck Rodeo hope you'll end up at a place that appreciates you

Thank you, brothers. Got a couple of early leads already, including one at a school that was interested in bringing me in a couple years back. I also weirdly know both of the English curriculum coordinators that work for the district and will be making use of those contacts. One of them used to work directly with me, loves me, and has given me a reference before.
So I'm pretty confident I can find something. My AP certification will mean a lot because there's not a lot of people certified for it in the district.

Also good luck dude. You actually give a shit and that's the root of your conflict. Not that you're causing it but it's showing you the school and employer doesn't share your values. Your good work and qualities are getting in the way of their own personal agendas.
By reilo Go To PostYou're married!!??!?Got married back in June after six years together! Buried the lede. She has zero interest in sports, but has many thoughts on Anthony Edwards. My wife was entranced by his shoes last night.
And it's funny you bring up the agendas because when I ask around about, hey, why am I under such scrutiny this year, the answer I get back is that there's somebody in admin that doesn't like me. This person doesn't like that I don't lesson plan with them even though they don't know anything about the AP curriculum, but they desperately want the credit from what happens with my classes.
Congrats!!
And yea telltale sign that someone incompetent with a dirtbag heart has it out for you. See a lot, lately. Both personally, my wife's work, and other friends.
People just fail upwards these days and have so much influence and power over others.

Education is full of the fail upward types, the people that are bad teachers that view it solely as a steady government job with easy opportunities to advance. And yeah, it kinda is, but they always tell on themselves when they give you feedback and give you their advice on teaching, managing a classroom, etc.
The people that talk in buzzwords are the death of me. I had a principal ask me two weeks ago why I teach, and was looking for a flowery answer about it being a calling. "Because the checks keep clearing" isn't good enough, I guess.

Nothing like seeing my neighbor on the ground twitching and convulsing all over the place. Had to tell everyone watching him that they needs to call the paramedics. Ended up calling them myself

so whats a good amount of money to actually keep in your checking account before you invest the rest or put the rest in savings accounts
like lets say in terms of "____ months of living expenses"
like lets say in terms of "____ months of living expenses"
By diehard Go To Posti thought it was like 2 monthsMy mom always told me 6 months. If it used to be 2 months, you better make it 6 months with how hard it can be to find a new job right now.
Isn't that just how much money you should have period? If we are just talking about savings account or investments.. why keep more than 2 months?
I always heard you never quit a job without 6 months saved up but I never heard anything about how much to keep in savings
By domino Go To Postso whats a good amount of money to actually keep in your checking account before you invest the rest or put the rest in savings accountsI keep around £3k in my current account, but my savings account lets me withdraw three times in a rolling 12-month period before my interest rate decreases. Rent, bills and food come to around £1kpm for me.
like lets say in terms of "____ months of living expenses"
Was on a lower rate limitless withdrawal savings account for over a decade before that, probably lost a couple of grand doing it that way but I used to take money out of it a lot more than I do now.
Got a letter happily informing me that they'd increased the interest rate, checked the table provided and it's only for accounts with less than £1k, or more than £500k, which must be about 1% of accounts.
Thinking of putting some stuff in to an easy cash ISA so that I still can enjoy some of these rates but also withdraw when I need it.

Whatever the rule is I never have that much 😂
By Perfect Blue Go To PostI have never quit a job before getting a new one.I have. And it felt so good. Fuck bad jobs.
Ditto. Was dead broke for 10 months thereafter when I did it but was still way happier than going into work every day.
My boss when I put in my two weeks:
"So, do you already have another job lined up?"
"Nope; I haven't even started looking."
"But the health care industry is so stable in this economy! It will be very difficult to find a new job! [this was in ~2012-2013]"
"Don't care."
Found a new job with 50% better pay and better benefits a week later.

It sucks to say, but people and employers legitimately hope that the fear and uncertainty of making a leap keeps you in that seat.
By Kibner Go To PostMy boss when I put in my two weeks:I think you guys were tracking one of my jumps. I was happier terrified and anxious and broke than I was driving two hours a day just to be miserable.

I doubled my salary in under 3 years of leaving my first job. If I had stayed on another 3 years and not taken any chances, I wouldn't have even made the pay I got on my next job, guaranteed.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostI have never quit a job before getting a new one.me neither, i would feel too stressed lol. i did however leave a 3 month gap between two jobs.
I did quit on the same day as I got a bonus without having something lined up but not sure that it counts
Doubled in roughly 4 give or take too.
But don't think I'm downplaying how scary each jump was 😂 I applied at a FedEx the same day my offer letter for my current job came through.

Was scared shitless, for sure. Quitting and finding another job within the same city where you're comfortable is nothing in comparison to packing your shit into a two-door coupe and moving to one of the most expensive cities in the world where you don't know anyone or anything about it to take a gamble on yourself. It worked out, but I knew the risk.
I hate how people/companies are so obvious in showing how little they care about you when you're not useful for them anymore. Be it former work places when you quit or something like phone companies when you become a customer.
By domino Go To PostLol man this ain’t what I need to see rn I already 40% want to quit my job 😂If you dread going to your job, start looking for a new one. If you enjoy your job, still not a bad idea to look for a better one.
Companies ain’t looking out for you. Lookout for yourself.
As a project manager my job is … odd. It’s very project / team specific. I work for a great company and am treated fairly, however, my stress levels depend mostly upon the project I’m on. The coliseum renovation was an amazing job to be a part of. My current LAX people mover project has been a fucking nightmare
By Kibner Go To PostIf you dread going to your job, start looking for a new one. If you enjoy your job, still not a bad idea to look for a better one.I don’t dread it except for maybe November and December when shit goes haywire. Most of the year is pretty chill

But It’s just not at all what I imagined it would be like when I started. I thought things would be way more buttoned up and streamlined. Maybe that’s my fault for expecting that tho

I don't usually get migraines but when I do they make me pay what I owe. Took the day off it was so bad, constant yawning yesterday, pressure at the back of my eyes and felt incredibly sleepy but couldn't go to sleep. I think I was dehydrated, usually drink about a gallon a day but the last 4-5 days I hadn't worked out much and that dropped down to like 3 cups. I demand sanctions against whoever created the software that allows for migraines.
