That is harrowing stuff, Pac.
Glad you are getting help and persevering.

Nobody has asked anything so I will.
How much Gabapentin and Lorazepam were you taking?
Have you thought about trying AA (or some other support group)?
Were you able to keep the same job through all that?

I don't take lorazepam any longer, but I take 2700 mg of gabapentin daily. Lorazepam was always a low dose, like
Regarding AA, I'm open to something online, but I haven't yet done it yet. I don't really have the kind of privacy at the moment to really just talk about stuff. My insurance company has two people calling in and checking on me periodically. Once i get home, I'll be able to be more open in conversation.
(late correction on lorazepam dosage)
Incredible story. My dad was a major alcoholic when I was younger, luckily he never got to that point but he has regular seizures now and doctors aren't sure why, just said it's potentially due to damage he did with drink or drugs over the years.
The stuff is poison and shouldn't be so commonplace, expected and socially required, some would say.

Did you ever struggle to be by yourself?
Did being alone with your thoughts ever cause you challenges?
I find that not having something to look forward to, an event to be at or an activity I should be doing causes me retreat inward.

Not really, my default mode is isolation. The pandemic was a breeze, no adjustment needed, for example.
Thanks for sharing man. I am sure that wasn’t easy to type.
Honestly one of the worst alcohol addiction stories I have ever heard. I am happy you are still with us.
I am glad you have gone 11 months. It is good you have your parents to help you with this.
The important thing to remember is that there is no moderation. And that this time will be the same as last time. There is no ‘I can control better this time.’

By s y Go To PostHad no idea alcohol/drinking could do all that. Glad you're still around uncSame here. Thanks for opening up and sharing your experience, Pac. Great to hear that you're doing better now and that you have been doing it for 11 months. May it be 110 years more!
Pac that was heavy, I'm glad you're okay now man (and surprisingly engaging you wordsmith fucker). I've quit drinking a long time ago but it wasn't nearly as bad as you. Still working on the other shit!
no shame in staying with your parents for support there's really no better company in the world and I miss mine dearly
And listen, your avatar is still Stephen Colbert.

Yep.
I am really happy you are here with us, Pac. I am also glad you have what seems like a good support system irl to help you. I hope you continue to recover well and stay strong.

As someone who doesn’t drink. I’m always taken aback by the effects of alcohol on people. I had friends who would change into completely different people.
Big props to those who can shake their dependency on it.

Really glad you’re still here Pac, and 11 months strong being sober. That was a tough read.
need you here to witness another Astros Invitational with me this Fall

Yeah, about that... I'll be out taking in the majesty of this here beautiful blue dot that is our mother earth.
I think the worst part of not sleeping for me is the weird temperature changes but that just might be due to the extreme heat/humidity going on right bow.
Pretty sure the worst part about not sleeping is not getting the proper rest. I don’t think your poor sleeping habits are the explanation for climate change
One day it’s 95 and your melting even with AC on, and the next day you need your winter coat.

By DY_nasty Go To Posti have to legit drug myself to get 6 uninterrupted lolIf that is getting you 6 hours uninterrupted, maybe I need to try some benadryl. lol
Even melatonin has me waking up once or twice so I end up getting a couple blocks of ~3 hours of sleep.
By Pac-12 Go To PostI want to write a song about diphenhydramine HClThat's what I take now but maybe Benadryl is worth another try
Was working great a few years ago but its definitely not hitting the same now
Tried melatonin before arriving at Tylenol PM (original source of my Benadryl [active ingredient]), did jack squat for me. I get my situation is different.
I talked to my doctor to see if she had any concerns about long term use of acetaminophen, realizing that I was only taking it at night and nowhere near 4000 mg per day, but she said just take Benadryl. It's the same amount of diphenhydramine HCI, 25 mg per pill, just without the pain reliever which was useless anyway.

That's what's in Benadryl, though.
If I have a chill day, pitch black room, and dead silence at night I get my sleep.
The moment I start ruminating though...
