Well, good luck with it. Zaslav is one of the most overpaid human beings on the planet, and there's a lot of competition there.
“Live service games” might be the worst thing to happen to this medium since the Saturn failed in the west
By Perfect Blue Go To Post“Live service games” might be the worst thing to happen to this medium since the Saturn failed in the westDiablo 2 is still amazing. Take that back.
Live service games are fine, but there’s only so much room in the market for them. Each publisher seems to think they can release multiple live service games and expect them all to be successful, that’s the real issue.
Yeah, the play is to throw a dozen crappy games at the wall, and if one hits you've won. Doesn't matter how many studios it costs or how many failed and cancelled. The Ubisoft way.
By Dazenheimer Go To PostGT7 is live serviceAnd it’s a detriment to the experience. None of the previous numbered games were and they’re all better than 7.
Probably not new to anyone here, but pretty decent article about artists' work for video game companies: https://aftermath.site/most-video-game-artwork-will-never-be-seen

Even when they have a live service game doing well, it’s not enough. They keep going throwing their other studios at more live service attempts.
Ubisoft are still doing well with Siege, doing fairly okay with For Honor too (surprisingly). They’ve still released and killed off at least two more, tuned single player games to be LS games in the AC series, and have 2, 3?? More live service games in the pipeline. It’s fucked.

Lmao
By Laboured Go To PostWell, good luck with it. Zaslav is one of the most overpaid human beings on the planet, and there's a lot of competition there. They've just put out one of the best selling single player games of the year and the live service game Rocksteady has been making for a decade is going to bomb and this is what they're pivoting to.
In heroes of the storm 1.0 you could buy a lich king skin for 10 dollars where the only difference was the helmet was off
And that was like over a decade ago

Crazy thing about this year isn't just all the quality releases but how well they all seem to be selling.
Gamers be thirsty.
But yeah, a Spiderman game will always sell well imo.
And with a 40m install base, 12.5 % bought it.

By Laboured Go To PostHope you're all excited for Spider-Man 3 next October, with 6 new suits and 4 new combat moves. The Spider-Gwen standalone spin-off will be released a few months later, set in a completely reimagined New York City where cars drive on the left side of the road.

Live service is important for continuing revenue generation since AAA games take longer and longer to develop and are mad expensive.
By Dazenheimer Go To PostLive service is important for continuing revenue generation since AAA games take longer and longer to develop and are mad expensive.Whose fault is it these games cost so much to make? You’re saying this like it’s a fact of nature rather than a deliberate act by publishers.

I heard it ruins the game though lmao. Might as well I guess, lets try the Wooden experience.

Sony's AAA games cost more than your average AAA I imagine
They also dont take as long to release as Sony's

By data Go To PostI tried D4 season 2 since the shills said 'its good now'I've been trying S2 the last week or so. The early levels still fucking suck. There are also still way too many boring aspects in legendary gear, but there are actual uniques now? Those can be pretty rad (Werewolf as default form is cool). The new season story line was ok, the Blood Fields and Hell Tide are decently fun, and world bosses/events are up often enough to actually participate in them.
I think I'd rather play Starfield
This conversation is pretty funny since Rockstar is gonna drop a trailer for the first 1 billion dollar budget video game and all the big publishers are gonna think they can do that too

It takes too long to get a mount and even then, the mount is just a solution to a problem they created ( so they could sell store mounts). I've never heard anyone complain about Diablo's world size but that feels like their philosophy of this game is to make the world needlessly big. Dungeons also feel like they take way too long to get through. Nothing is challenging and everything is slow.

By data Go To PostThis conversation is pretty funny since Rockstar is gonna drop a trailer for the first 1 billion dollar budget video game and all the big publishers are gonna think they can do that tooI already had all the waypoints unlocked from launch and the mount, too. Haven't spent a dime other than the initial game purchase. Traversal is easy and quick. And once you unlock the mount on one character, it is unlocked for all your present and future characters on the same account. It only takes like 30 seconds to 1 minute to get to any particular point of interest in the game. Which is in the same ballpark as D2 (with teleport) and faster than D3.

I did grind out all the dungeons for the aspects on my non-seasonal character and, yeah, dungeons fucking suck in this game.
The general flow of the non-dungeon challenging content is you beat up less-challenging things for a currency that you spend to spawn something that is actually challenging. Blood Fields < Hell Tide < special Tree of Whispers boss (can't remember the name). There are also nightmare dungeons, which I don't have much experience with. Because they are dungeons in D4, which are generally not a good time.
I wouldn't say the game is good now, but there are actual things to do in end game.
By C4-621 Go To PostJust as funny as Sony or Microsoft thinking they can make the next Fortnite for continuing revenue generationMS and Sony don’t necessarily need something like the size of Fortnite to have success. Just a series of games that generate revenue past their one time release.
That’s what live service aims to do.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostWhose fault is it these games cost so much to make? You’re saying this like it’s a fact of nature rather than a deliberate act by publishers.I don’t think the general audience is free from being guilty here either. There’s a vocal portion of gamers that expect and demand games to be bigger and better with each passing year. More detailed, more content, etc.
By Crusher Go To PostPeople really believe they are spending a billion on GTA6?Probably more right? It’s going to print money for the next 10 years for them
