Almost at the end of Phantom Liberty, man that was awesome. Really enjoying my first play through of this game.

The notes are the only part of Jusant that just felt unneeded. I collected a lot of them, but they just distracted me from the rest of the game that was fun and enjoyable.
I think they added a lot to TLoU
Don't bother reading them properly anymore in BG3, it's just too much.

I collected a lot of them, but they just distracted me from the rest of the game that was fun and enjoyable. The cairns were also pointless, not tied to a vista or a POI or anything, felt carelessly dotted about. And only a couple of the sea shells were really additive.
That's what I was cynical at first. Tons of games throw these things upfront and expect you to be awed every time. It never works. The well written notes I found describing the climb were much more effective at setting the mood, but I had to read like a dozen of them (some of them are too fucking long) to find one or two that really stood out as evocative. Mainly Bianca describing a meeting with a couple of characters.
The murals and altars were only cool if they made you really go through some interesting nooks and crannies to get to them. But the fact that I can point to all these elements: the notes, cairns, murals, altars, etc. with such specificity and they repeat themselves ever so often is what breaks the illusion of these sparse-narrative-thoughtful indies. They can become very transparent and artificial.
Game holds up on the strength of the visuals and atmosphere. It's a well realized setting. Gameplay is a decent enough vehicle.
some games definitely go OD with it. im not reading everything if 90% of it is mid
lost odyssey gave that lesson early thankfully

I'm losing myself in Alan Wake 2 and it feels incredible.
I ... I think I'm ready to call this the best year in my personal videogame history (and there's at least five amazing games I've yet to play).
There may have been years with even more great games that blew my young mind, but I never expected I'd get to experience those highs again in this cursed/blessed hobby. It's been one banger after another since the beginning of the year and I feel I somehow managed to play exactly the right game at the perfect time, which is something I've been very mindful of in the past 5+ years. Now everything's fallen into place.
A year to remember.

Is the recap at the start of AW2 decent enough or should I do some extra watching and reading?
The one at the start of Spiderman 2 is dogshit.

I don't even remember what happened in Alan Wake 1. He's a magic writer or something
But again some concepts in Control are essential, I feel. So maybe read about it, I'm sure there's an article somewhere about this.
It has been the year of Zabo too all along

Bought Merio Wonder. Surprised it was only £40. Bless Nintendo and Bezos for keeping games affordable.
Merio now and I’m holding off on Armored Core 6 for my two weeks off over Christmas next month. Might do AC6 (Armored Core btw) and Alan Wake 2 over Christmas actually.

By NiceGuy Go To PostIs the recap at the start of AW2 decent enough or should I do some extra watching and reading?I watched a couple of 'the story so far' videos, 'cause I remembered literally nothing of my AW1 playthrough, never played American Nightmare or Control's AW DLC. I wouldn't say it's absolutely essential watching, but I've already had more than a few 'I understood that reference' moments in the first 5 hours of the game, which would've otherwise gone over my head.

By C4-621 Go To PostThis is a better argument than I want all my games in one placethe argument that if a company dies you lose your library is a compelling one 😂
the fact that they spent years drip feeding that 30 second teaser is hilarious
it's probably all they have finished so far

So I booted up Rocket League and saw Lighting McQueen was a car you could buy, as a connoisseur I went to see how much he is and it's $15, for a single car

its worse, the full bundle with the classic Life is a Highway, is $25, aka $5 more than the actual game when it wasn't free
Exciting! Even though I know I'll never finish it

Let’s see if Rockstar puts in body transformation akin to RDR2/San Andreas, very underrated feature.
