About an 1.5hrs into Disco Elysium.
-Man...they sure made up a lot of fake words for this game world. It's honestly the biggest hurdle in following the dialogue besides the super slow line reading. I wish I knew which conversation option was mostly inconsequential so I could skip em.
-I like the art direction a lot. So much so that I had to look up the credits(Alexander Rostov) The character models are low fidelity but they are undoubtedly well made and works well with the expressionistic portrait art. It reminds me a lot of the Dishonored games, which I put at the very top echelon of videogame art direction.
-The environmental art is the star though. The architecture and color design are nice. Even though I'm not a fan of the camera angle, they probably wouldn't be able to execute the art direction so well any other way. Not with an indie sized budget and team. I'm assuming the environment is mostly 2D, or being drawn on a 2D plane.
-As much as I can appreciate the look, navigating and traversing the world is fucking ass. The downside of a mostly 2D background is that identifying which brushstrokes are actually traversable parts of the environment can be a pain in the ass.
-Relying on points of interest to navigate wouldn't be so bad if you didn't move so fucking slow and your partner didn't bump into you all the time.
-Is the PS5 version censored? Fa**ot gets bleeped out but I guess it could be an in-universe slur idk.

What will it take bro...
Silent Hill 2 wasn't the only game in the damn series...
Do something else, please.

@AW2
I reached the point of no return in one character last night but I wanna keep collecting stuff I'm missing a few on the board and its surprisingly fun
Feel like playing Control is essential tbh

yall have no idea about shimmy sections until you play callisto protocol. makes FF7R look tame. The whole game felt like the creator of Dead Space thinks the end goal of video games is to 'make movies'
Kojimbo without the clout
The 'beat up half naked dudes as a convict' genre has high standards

By C4-621 Go To PostSo annoying. On paper a melee Dead Space with a dodge button is fantastic but manI feel like I fought the same guy 100 times. Sometimes he was on all fours, sometimes he wore a helmet, sometimes he was fat, but it was always the same guy and it always played out the exact same way
Alan Wake 2 does the shared universe thing very well. There's enough mentions of Control's FBC that you know they're important, but it hasn't really intruded on the plot either.

Rvy the pieces are in place
By NiceGuy Go To PostWell that's put me right off playing it, had no interest whatsoever in the SCP bollocks in Control.Alan Wake 1 was utter bollocks without the objects of power retcon
By Laboured Go To PostIts about time honestly
By Laboured Go To PostVery cummy. Now bring to PC pls.no
The sequel is another fairytale btw, supposedly. Wizard of Oz
You get one of the dodges by default now so I imagine that makes the game much easier and less annoying at first.
Talos tomorrow. Fine I'll wrap up Alan Wake 2 tonight.
Incredible. Data and Dy are getting a game on the 2nd too...is it lowkey my year too? 😳
By C4-621 Go To PostInteresting threadI was nowhere near as hardcore as some others on here, but that seems mostly accurate. Too much grind, too little reward, what rewards you did get went away rather quickly, the online shop was incredibly awful. Like, pay money for limited use cosmetics awful. And, those cosmetics could be attached to gear that would get sunset and you lose access to!
The gameplay was usually fun. Except for the eras where your weapon didn't really matter and just which space wizard powers you picked did (and the gear to support it, of course).
Player retention was always a risk. D2Y1 - anyone who plays will know what I'm saying. The guy in the tweet isn't saying anything new or insightful at all.
There are a ton of challenges the franchise which is heading into its tenth year has faced - and the work and churn is nothing short of miraculous - 4 seasons a year and an expansion.
Ligtfall didnt hit, in a year like 2023 with every month dropping banger after banger - I am not shocked player numbers dipped. The problems go much deeper with the systems in the game - its still carrying a ton of technical debt from its 2014 origins.
I would say more, but crazy busy rn and I can only have this discussion in good faith.

No offense but this guy sounds like an idiot.

Too much grind, too little reward, what rewards you did get went away rather quickly, the online shop was incredibly awful. Like, pay money for limited use cosmetics awful. And, those cosmetics could be attached to gear that would get sunset and you lose access to!This is largely why I stopped playing. I felt like I had to be always two feet in to enjoy it and if I even tool a small break I knew my gear was no longer relevant and it left me at too huge of a deficit as I missed out on the stuff that was relevant.

Plus, they never got Crucible right like they did in D1. It made it impossible to PVP in a fun way.
By reilo Go To PostUltimately they made a game for streamerssounds like a winning formula that definitely works
By Xpike Go To Postwell look at fortnite, aint that bad of a betFortnite's tie-in to celebrities and other pop-culture stuff makes that work. It's built-in marketing.
By Cleff Go To PostAlan Wake 2Not in 2023. It can be up there, for sure, though.

We've had at least 12 very good ones, 13 with Talos 2 tomorrow obviously.
