I wouldn’t say it’s a pattern, but they absolutely have interfered with development of games in the past.

The reception to Elden Ring has been remarkable, even by FromSoftware’s lofty standards. Now, publisher Bandai Namco has celebrated the success by rewarding its staff with a huge pay rise.
They even bought a new office building, like Bafta winners Housemarque.

You'd think a next gen only title would look a lot better :/

They already leaked that their pro Xbox won't change any specs. Just a series x without a disc drive.

They made the most powerful console then kneecapped it by giving it the series Shitbox to drag it under.
By Fenderputty Go To PostJoking aside is that even possible for Xbox? Series S would be super gimpedIt’s doable but I don’t think anybody working on games would want to have 3 different Xbox hardware models to develop for again.
It’d be a shitshow like the Xbox One, One S and One X all over again.
The Series S and The Steam Deck have made devs think much more about scalability which is a positive (for PC gaming). Both top end and low end benefit from this even if these are lower spec machines.
Unfortunately, the other side of that coin is the proliferation of one size fits all solutions and everyone migrating to UE5, and as games get more complex, there's fewer optimization going on.

I was watching the DF video on graphically intense games on Steam Deck and why do so many games now have this strange dithering look to them? Apparently it has something to do with image reconstruction but wtf is the point it looks horrible. You really see it in Hogwarts Legacy.
^ It's mostly an issue with FSR2 reconstruction, which is a generation behind DLSS. It will get better, and it's already better in non-AMD only setups.
And it's the same reconstruction that consoles use and will use in the future (it just looks slightly better because of the higher internal resolution), that's why some games abuse effects like motion blur to mask it off a bit.

By Laboured Go To PostDamn, sucks how the lowest common denominator is holding back high end graphics 👀When I said PC would hold this gen back, I never knew it would be this bad 😔

What is the reason behind using FSR2? Like I play a lot of games at lower resolutions and none of them look like that.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostThat’s interesting, thank you. What is the reason behind using FSR2? Like I play a lot of games at lower resolutions and none of them look like that. It's a fancy temporal anti-aliasing that is usually better quality than a game's native TAA and is relatively easy to implement if the engine already supports TAA. TAA is useful because it often lets you render a game at a lower resolution and upscale it and look close to native.
Yeah, the main benefits should be better image quality than other popular forms of anti-aliasing like TAA, and obviously improved performance.
Important note: since this tech is temporal, it looks better at higher framerates since it has more information to work with over any given time frame. Similarly, higher base resolutions also give it more information to work with.
When people game at 4k with this tech, especially the DLSS version, you can often get away with the base resolution being 1080 and then upscaled to 4k with minimal visual artifacts. That's essentially rendering at a quarter resolution and scaling up and having it lose remarkably close to native.
But you can only really do that with the higher resolutions. Trying to do the same by upscaling 270p to 1080p is just an outright disaster, and that is basically the kind of thing that is happening with the Steam Deck. The base resolution is too low to make effective use of the tech.
