By DiPro Go To Posti know i'm a hater but i genuinely don't get the hype with this one.If you thought Skyrim and the Fallouts were bad when they came then you probably won't like it. I loved them and can't wait for this
maybe it's because i don't trust bethesda to deliver since the ideas sound cool.
Starfield always looked fine, just a bit bland but they seem have polished it up.
Feels like a big budget AAA NMS. Not a bad thing.

Yea
I think FF16 is gonna be my favorite game ever. Just finished up playing 4 hours of the demo. And then there's the 2nd demo you unlock after beating the prologue that's deeper into the game with more skills and Jesus
I am in awe.

I'm worried we've seen little on the questing. The things they did show like raiding bases and space combat were very much of the procedurally generated kind Bethesda introduced in Fallout 4 and they got old quick.
Tonnes of work went into the mechanics of base building, ships, star systems and planets but where's the meat? I'm worried we'll end up getting all this freedom to explore thousands of mostly empty worlds to gather resources and go on fetch quests to improve your ship and to do it all over again.
And I know how tiresome random encounters can get in a while in Bethesda games and I don't want Starfield to be just that! They better have cooked up some great narratives and quests in hubs and other places of interest.

Final Fantasy stepping its game up with this demo, game is def day 1 now. And these production values…
By DiPro Go To Posti know i'm a hater but i genuinely don't get the hype with this one.I remember how they gassed up the ai, emergent quests, unique caves etc for skyrim before release, and all we got was a nicer looking morrowind but with less choices and freedom than morrowind

Without knowing more I’m left with the idea that Starfield is being built around these game systems that don’t seem to build up to anything cohesive.
Ship making and management, creating outposts that look like nothing more than home bases, but what are these parts building to? They seem to belong to a game where expansion, not exploration, is the end goal but it isn’t. Do we get to create settlements that grow into full on mini cities, space stations? Trade routes, armadas? Strategy? Sounds like a no.
Barren planets that procedurally create fetch quests, shooting lasers at rocks to mine minerals? Combat looks Mickey Mouse league, the enemy A.I looked like cannon fodder.
For a game that wants the player to spend a whole lot of time interacting with characters, the facial animation and overall 3D model quality looked bad.
“look at how far you can seamlessly travel”, uh has this ever worked before? Can’t seamless enter and exit a planet.
There’s a lot that didn’t look good, and it seems to me that people are filling in the blanks with hyped up imagination and I have my doubts.

By Lupercal Go To PostLoad in the map with a loadout, loot shit, kill enemies / NPCS, extract at certain points of the map.Thanks. Liking this better than their original concept.
Everything you loot gets taken to your hideout, if you die, you lose what you brought into the map.
Kind of like a battle royale but you bring your own loadout.
All that is fine, but Bethesda isn't a new developer. All their games deliver a pretty similar experience so if you liked their previous output, it's highly likely you'll like their newest game
Most games don't even come close to attempting the scale that Starfield promises. Even if every system presented in that demonstration is surface deep(they will be), it is gonna be fire. The mere inclusion of additional mechanics is often enough.
Buying property in San Andreas was about as deep as a light switch but it still sucked that you couldn't do it in GTA4.
Nobody is expecting TLOU2 enemy AI. Nobody is expecting sim game level settlement management, nobody is expecting 2077 facial animations.
All those procedurally generated planets will just be shit to break the economy with. As long as the majors planets/cities deliver with the handcrafted content, it will be frosting.

Especially most of Bethesda's recent entries, which tended to be a bit of both.

I don't think anyone was impressed by the depth of the mechanics they showed off, just the inclusion.

Like it sounds super cool in theory but the actual playing it part looked pretty boring.

Well, they did say most of the stars/worlds would be barren and would be specifically for resource gathering.

Idk I’m hoping it gets better cuz all I’ve been doing for this half an hour is pressing start -> holding triangle
I still don't think they're gonna pull off that whole procedural generation shit, they can't even make fun maps let alone procedurally generated ones. The ones in Skyrim weren't great

Far too much Bethesda hate on this page. Surprised but happy to see Sy gets it.
Todd always delivers.

it looks nice, but you're gonna be skipping a lot of cutscenes
i got tired of skipping so i just closed the game. It has sy's stamp of approval and his shitposting aside, he has great taste in action games (naruto isn't considered an action game is it?)

By jjasper Go To PostIt is a final fantasy game were people expecting no cutscenes? For the full release? yeah I expected them
For a gameplay demo? Holding triangle isn't exactly riveting gameplay
I haven't played it yet but isn't the demo just the first part of the game that carries over the full game?
The funny thing about Starfield's showcase, is like 90% of the features they showed (everything but ship customization really) are things that are already integral part of their games. Known quantities if you will.
How will settlements work? What do you do here and there? Like, we know already. That's what we wanted.
What I'm excited about is, that Far Harbour's narrative lead is Lead Narrative for this game too. It was a great piece of DLC. You had three factions: the harbor inhabitants, Acadia (synth haven) and the Children of the Atom. And every character in these factions had their own storyline going on, and they were all three at conflict with each other.
You go there to investigatea missing person's case, and one of the best companions of the base game (Nick Valentine) tagged along and was heavily integrated into the storyline, which is something that feels greatly improved from the days of Lydia in Skyrim. You could side with either of the factions, pit them against each other or try to find a more neutral solution. It rewarded exploration and for every main character had some sort of input for the ending depending on how you interacted with them, with skill checks and positive and negative (and neutral) outcomes deciding one of a few different end states. And unique rewards like armor sets and some very good perks.
On top of that it had great side stories, like a vault/hotel murder mystery where all the vault dwellers were people who uploaded their consciousness to robots, and was super atmospheric with more interesting enemy variety. It really was what people wanted from F4 from the beginning and they've acknowledged that here. With them going back to a silent protagonist and skill based checks, the four defined factions kinda avoiding the problem the F4 main factions had I think they might pull this one off.
And all the snippets of side content they showed are what make these games special to people really... The Skyrim grandma you can find in space, the adoring fan. Like, having a trait that means you pay rent and get to visit your parents and do some quests for them... Yeah, they probably won't have the most advanced proc gen quest system in gaming, but then again, who does? There's a reason no one else can do games like this.

By Daz Go To PostStarfield should have a performance mode.
I have a strong suspicion that with all the Gamebryo stuff going on (tracking the positon / state of millions of individual objects throughout the game) and also stuff like being able to just throw a tonne of sandwiches in a room, this thing is going to be pretty CPU bound, making a basic performance mode a non-starter.
Toss says it often goes up to 60fps. Why not have a 40fps mode and an unlocked VRR mode?
I think a straight up 60fps mode will be added post launch. They are probably going through near GTA levels of QA right now to ship this in time for September.

With the way Elder Scrolls and Fallout games ran on consoles, I don’t believe Todd for one second that this game runs anywhere near 60fps
Not even on the main menu

The combat in Starfield actually looks enjoyable.
Not good, just competent. Serviceable, fine, possibly even fun (but not too fun). A huge step up for Bethesda.

I played through the Jusant demo and now the game is very much on my radar.
Always been a fan of the colorful quasi cel-shaded art style and the feeling of serenity (now!) it brings, and the climbing is great. Alternating between grabbing with the left / right hand, stamina control, resting, placing pilons, swinging and wall running with the rope ... feels really good.
Couldn't grab any decent screenshots, climbing is hard.
