By Crusher Go To PostFable is a nothing burger of a franchise without Peter Molineux to make us dream. Maybe PG has something in the bag though who knows. If anything, PM is why no one gives a shit about Fable

It was ok. Much like Fable.

Lmao for real. The idiot damaged the development beyond what anyone can imagine, hyped up features that never existed and made people angry as a result and so on... Absolute idiot.

Lies of Peter made him a millionaire

I feel like we've had games like Fable but not many like Jade? It always sounded incredible to me

Jade Empire was quality.
Fable 1 was a good game but I can't remember a thing about Fable 2 tbh. Good or bad. Other than it having a dog.
Fable 3's infamous time jump... yeah, I'm glad Lionhead didn't get to make anymore Fable games.

Fable 1 had stuff going for it, but it was also of the era of potty humour and cartoony good/evil choices (I mean, it's called Fable so I guess that part fits). It was the most 3/5 game, but it was short and had a hook.
From there they just focused on the wrong stuff and yeah, Peter basically promised it would do everything and more every time he opened his mouth, and at best the games were filled with dumb gimmicks. He went from "You can plant a tree and watch it grow" - OK - "Choices as a kid will matter when you are an adult" - sure - to: "You can manage whole town's economy" "every NPC will remember everything you ever did, they will resent you, hunt you down complete quests before you in this vast, limitless open world where everything reacts to you and your children will follow up where you left off for a completely new game", etc...
Pete's lies just kept getting bigger and bigger.

Yeah, Jade Empire was good. Not IGN's stupid ass 9.9 "OMG almost best game ever" good, but decent and it was good to see Bioware stretch to a different kind of fantasy.

Only one game managed to pull off that whole plant a tree and watch it grow and fuck up shit
i wanted to trade in my ps2 for an xbox + fable (and halo).
molyneux: "For example, if you choose to carve your initials in a tree, the initials will still be there if you come back to the tree 10 years later."
this had my hyped.

Well that certainly doesn’t make any sense since all the hype that franchise ever garnered in its life was due to PM’s wild vision, failed or not.
By DY_nasty Go To PostJade Empire wasn't bad.You know the rules here. If it isn't a masterpiece or instant classic, it's trash, garbage, should have never been made.

There's some sort of gaming expo on Twitch in 20 mins, I'm not sure what kind of games they'll announce there, I assume indies.

Weird way to read my post, calling it OK like fable (i assume, cause everyone else saying it's good) . But you do you.
By Zabojnik Go To Postwait, this is DLC for DCS, right? Does it really look this good now?
base game struggled years ago with less flattering graphical fidelity
By C4-621 Go To Post@syGotta say, it looked much more impressive, artistically and technically, in that UE5 features demo they had some months back.
Punished Phil would’ve won my heart if the showcase were today. Would’ve bought a Series X and four years of gamepass if it were at 20 PM, exact same time as the UCL final.
Gotta work for my money Phil.

The first Fable had pretty fun combat, even if a bunch of stuff was completely broken. I was quite happy to just go around doing quests, except there basically were no quests and you could beat the whole game in 5 hours

So no, it's not enjoyable for me. I'm not giving games points for being playable.

Looks like I will check back in on D4 closer to Season 1 launch. Looks like there are some significant issues with getting to end-game that I do not want to deal with right now:
Game still looks like it is pretty fun, but it looks like high level characters need a form of Unstoppable to avoid all the CC mechanics that high-level mobs throw out. Also, the power scaling being wack from like levels 7 to ~80s (when you start getting more paragon points and glyphs and whatnot to help outscale the enemies) as well as the leveling pace just absolutely grinding to a halt post-50.

Yeah, I thought about doing a writeup but kept going back to Kripp's video as he pretty much said it all. I was waiting on him to hit 100 to see it all, but it seems beta was a fair representation of the game overall. Very few surprises down the track for people who leveled to 20 during server slams.
Level scaling is a downside and unfortunately the game doesn't do a great job around it the more you level up. Flat Resistances are terrible, and there might be something screwy going on with them and Armor formulas (basically Damage Reduction is many %s higher than resistances, and stacking Armor by itself provides more resistances than, well, resistances). This leaves several non-armor stacking builds outside of the possibility of doing +20 endgame nightmare content as basic attacks from white mobs one shot non-armor characters. Meanwhile damage from bosses is perfectly tankable by those same characters lol.
And other stuff related to endgame content that doesn't seem really fleshed out right now (glyphs are OK, events are good, bosses are not and melee just like in beta seems slow and clunky to play) but could improve with more content updates. The fact that it's grindy to lvl 100 with not much reward and Season 1 is coming soon anyway is kind of a detriment. New seasons should provide a fresh start but could also mean that people who don't level up as fast would be unwilling to jump in and restart the grind for the allure of whatever new content.

Your hate for it has nothing to do with how many other people still enjoy it.Not at all, I'm just surprised that people are excited for it coming back. I don't think it would sell very well in a modern era but I guess that's a benefit to Game Pass, you can take risks and make games like that.
And if it's a reboot with a new style maybe it could be cool. Playground make good games. It's just there's other IPs lying dormant that are more appealing, like give me Viva Piñata or Banjo-Kazooie, but obviously it's not an either or. RPG wise I'm more excited for Obsidian's upcoming stuff.
Some of my favourite games of all time people would consider 7 outta 10 so I understand where you're coming from, just for me Fable was never it.
Feel free to go off on Life Is Strange.
I tried LiS and enjoyed what I played of it, but never got very far as other games took my attention away from it. It was better than Fable, imo, but also targeted a much more niche audience.
By inky Go To Post*snip*Kripp said Blizzard has been doing lots of changes since launch, so I'm optimistic the biggest problems will be at least partially addressed by the time season 1 drops.
With how long teams require to be staffed and games made nowadays, it's understandable why projects like Fable by Playground and Perfect Dark got greenlit ages ago.
Probably born from the initial gameplan for the Series consoles to reestablish its base "big" IPs all around so someone can put up a banner with recognizable faces and say: 'this is xbox', beyond Halo, Forza, Gears. Same reason why projects like AoE4 and Flight Sim got made. It's the allure of the new boss to try and bring together all the things people know.
I do think xbox fans were somewhat clamoring for Fable. They are a pissy bunch, and when obvious garbage that isn't coming along like Scalebound or Fable Legends gets cancelled they start making noise like it was suddenly the biggest shit on the planet and they can't live without it.
I mean, fwiw, it's a series that got 3 games, one director's cut kinda thing and ports. It's big enough and Playground are a talented studio. I'd much rather they be doing something else, but at least Obsidian are there to bring new stuff. They are the real MVPs imo.

'the fuse box is missing a fuse. i need to find one, to turn on the lights'. who started the trend of characters having to explain every single thing, like you are barely a thinking person? it's in everything now. at least it didnt have a second character instantly tell you where the fuse is, like gow, i guess.
