Ohhh yeah
anyone playing the system shock remake? never played the original, and apparently it's very faithful to that.

I bought a Hyperkin Duke controller nearly five years ago and it worked great for a while but it started to exhibit some weird behavior at times. Moving the left stick would occasionally also cause a movement of the right stick to register. I tried cleaning things out, recalibrating, and basically everything short of replacing hardware (and I was starting to look into doing that with potentiometers and maybe one of the circuit boards).
I finally reached out to Hyperkin and they can't RMA it since it is well outside their 1-year warranty, but they did say they could replace it for 50% of MSRP, which I will do.
It is one of the most comfortable console controllers I have used so I can't wait to get a working one again. The only thing it really lacks for my purposes is paddles, so I just won't use it with fast-paced competitive games.

good luck
By C4-621 Go To PostI'm definitely with the 8/10 people. They just need to do a lot to make the game more rewarding to play after you beat the story once.

Ohhhh no … This sounds like D3 launch? Story mode is like what I get power leveled through to get to the game when I joined a season late in D3 lmao
By Fenderputty Go To PostOhhhh no … This sounds like D3 launch? Story mode is like what I get power leveled through to get to the game when I joined a season late in D3 lmaoNo, the story mode for this one is shaping up to be good! It is for people like myself who wanted this to be a game to be nearly infinitely replayable like D2 and... it isn't.
By Fenderputty Go To PostI’m excited still but I was hoping for an existent end game lol. Story goes fastThere probably is a decent end game, but build options seem to be very limited and melee seems to be a fool's errand on higher difficulties so it will likely get old, very quickly. Going by the last beta, summons and melee both suck.

This is D3 minus an auction house that DH’s ruled. Summons sucking makes HC kinda iffy? Lol
Luckily i don't really care about diarblo end game. I like to grind one or two characters to max level and then i'm done.
To sum up my complaints real quick:
- ranged characters are rarely in danger
- ranged characters shit out damage
- ranged characters rarely have to engage with the potion/health resource game loop and don't need to pick up many defensive options
- melee characters have ok to good damage, but not great
- melee characters are always in danger
- melee characters have to give up offensive options for defensive options in order to survive boss fights
- optimal build paths are basically required for melee characters and they don't have much room to diversify

Surely that's nothing that can't be patched quite easily by adjusting things like dodge cooldowns, lifesteal mechanics and resistances?
Then again maybe not if melee still isn't balanced properly so close to release

By NiceGuy Go To PostSurely that's nothing that can't be patched quite easily by adjusting things like dodge cooldowns, lifesteal mechanics and resistances? Not really. They have to entirely redesign how boss fights or ranged builds work.
As of now, ranged builds just happily sit out of range of all the most devastating attacks. Or, they are far enough away that they have more reaction time and space to dodge. And their dodge options are at least as good as melee builds.
Melee builds don't get enough time to dodge a lot of mechanics; they just have to soak and recover. It's super easy for Blizzard to over-adjust and melee builds just become unkillable.
I didn't really delve into the skill trees, is Rogue the only class that you can play as melee and still have essentially two dodges with the teleport ability?

Yeah … this is shit that should be figured out by launch or bwfore after D3
I just got massive D3 shivers from Kibs post. D3 had no builds and only DH’s and Wizz were viable at launch. Took months and multiple balancing patches and new gear ads to get a playable end game
The long and short of it is that ranged builds don't have to engage with encounter mechanics as much as melee builds do.
Most of my complaints stem from that. So, encounter design needs to be changed. And that's much more difficult than just tweaking numbers.

But melee builds still have less time and less space to make those dodges in. They are already up on the boss and the boss is doing an aoe, where do they go? Especially since these aoe attacks usually emanate from a boss, so people up close are affected first. The ranged character has more time to dodge and also more spaces to dodge into.

I feel my complaints are mostly only things people who expect to play for like 50+ hours would care about so I can understand the reviews mostly being really positive.
It's the biggest change I noticed from D3, even at like level 15 with the rogue. Felt like in D3 at all times you could avoid most damage with the spammable roll, but in the beta there was very little option but to tank any attack that didn't have a long wind-up.
Any chance that they've just overly designed it for co-op and expect melee players to basically take it in turns to draw damage while the others heal and get their abilities back up?

Balancing a Diablo game around co-op instead of single player goes against basically every Diablo convention up to this point. Co-op has always been a secondary consideration in build balance in the series up to this point.

Don’t apologize … that’s the review I wanted. Now I can wait 6 months for about 4 patches before jumping in
D4 reviews are OK, but there are definitely long term considerations that you'll never get from launch reviews or mainstream reviewers (that's fine, there are many ways to play this game).
For me beta was a 3/5 but Paragon board and a full tree build are things that were not available and I only trust a few people with anyway. I'll be watching Kripp's early access play to see how it's shaping up in that regard.
As far as polish, atmosphere, performance and presentation the game seems to be in a great spot to be built upon.

This seems to concentrate more the endgame stuff. He seems (reasonably) positive on it.
Rhykker also mentions D4 has more content (about 400hrs) than D3 has right now

We seem to have similar opinions on the game, as far as personal enjoyment goes.

Will say that Kibner was an awesome co-player when we played D3 together, so if you ever play with him, enjoy!

By WoodenLung Go To Postanyone playing the system shock remake? never played the original, and apparently it's very faithful to that.I'll get to it eventually. It's looking like a very solid remake from the reviews I've seen, but I've no idea how it will appeal to someone who's never played the original. It was an absolutely groundbreaking game at the time, like most things from Looking Glass, however everything that made SS1 (and SS2) unique in terms of gameplay features and design philosophy has been scavenged to death in the past 25+ years.
If you jump in, I'd say go in with tempered expectations and from a "his made history" perspective. I know I will.
