I gave Waypoint a shot early on. Wasn't for me as it turned out. It's a tough industry to be in if you working for a gaming site under some other corporate banner. Definitely seems like it's much better to do things yourself or as a smaller outfit that produces YouTube/Twitch/Patreon/Podcast content. Have your substack or whatever to write long form articles.

After Jeff was fired/cut from Giant Bomb they made a big deal about revitalizing the site with new additions from Gamespot and the return of Dan Ryckert. As it turns out they couldn't do as much content as they wanted with the Gamespot people and Dan would rather talk about games on the FireEscape podcast than his main jobs podcast for Giant Bomb. His heart isn't in to it and by his own admission he doesn't want to take about negative stuff or general news, just the games he plays.

As wholesome and un-edgy as it can get. They discuss the week's news in gaming with a rotating guest and what they've all been playing, that's it. And 8-4 Play to get my Japan fix.
Could never get into one of those videogame journalist supergroup podcasts like Giant Bomb, Easy Allies and what have you. I can only listen to people ranking fast food for an hour so many times.

Xbox had its second highest quarter in revenue despite those numbers and basically no 1P software. I don’t know if they care that much about boxes if they’ll be able to make money off people playing through a Samsung fridge.
Xbox has the most amount of studios. The content will come it just needs to be good.
Xbox’ problem is mindshare and being in the zeitgeist.

We would all be hyped for Fable if Peter Molynuex was still there talking bollocks and bigging it up with incredible features that don't make the final game
The Bethesda acquisition was huge for them, as they can actually get content out. If Perfect Dark can just be good, then something like Starfield -> Gears 6 -> Perfect Dark -> Elder Scrolls could recover their reputation in terms of first party finally.
