Critics and audiences really like it. It just didn’t capture the zeitgeist like the other two. Cruise bet on brand identity winning, and he lost. C’est la vie.
By WoodenLung Go To PostWatched solaris and my take away is don't drink liquidity oxygen.I liked the remake.
Was quite good. Not stalker or andrei rublev good though.
That last shot gotta be one of the worst holding up special effects of all time. It's from the early 70s so I guess fair enough, but looked almost comical
It's a chill watch.
By diehard Go To PostThe objective measurements to this don't really back that up though. An A from Cinemascore, A 96/94% on Rotten Tomatoes, and an 8.0 on IMDB. The quality of the movie doesn't really seem to be a factor on this one.lol "objective measurements"?
By n8 dogg Go To Posta review in one sentence just for budGood post
mission: impossible - dead reckoning part one is nowhere near as good as its predecessor, as it doesn't have the efficiency, the pace, the brutality, the cleancut action, the tightness, the villain, and the orchestrated edited beauty, but instead relies too heavily on cgi in a few of its set pieces (the last one in particular); what it does have in its place is a dynamite new addition to the team in hayley atwell, who brings an outsider's energy to proceedings that serves the film well, a good sense of humour (atwell chief in establishing this, all looks and grabs and double crosses) and some fun supporting roles from wigham, klementieff and czerny - however, this cannot entirely compensate for the worst plot the series has ever had, a ludicrously overwrought stupid-sounding 'fear of ai' plotline (and a terribly dull and uncharismatic villain to boot), and a visibly ageing cruise who is verging on being too old for this shit, but just has enough in the bag to keep things entertaining (there's a great hour and a bit or so in here, starting from where the team get to the airport until the end of the rome chase).
a soft 7/10

When it comes how favourable the general audience finds a movie? Yeah those are pretty objective measurements.
By s y Go To PostWhen it comes how favourable the general audience finds a movie? Yeah those are pretty objective measurements.I agree with the premise that the quality of the film doesn't really matter in terms of the box office, but those numbers tell us nothing other than what people who already seen the movie think. So I'm not really sure what relevance it has when the issue is people who haven't seen it, if that make sense.
By Perfect Blue Go To Postlol "objective measurements"?Well, yeah. Just because the data itself is subjective doesn't mean the the analysis of the data can't be objective. If uninfluenced external factors (like the questioning being different) a comparison of a 1-10 score between two things in same industry is definitely an objective measurement.

So when the theory of something not being well received is a factor, you need to consider how well it was received by.. the people who didn't receive it? What?
By diehard Go To PostSo when the theory of something not being well received is a factor, you need to consider how well it was received by.. the people who didn't receive it? What?I'm just saying I'm skeptical whether it being well liked by the people who watched it matters to the negative box office performance. Paramount had internal polling on Indy 5 that was unanimously positive and that still flopped like MI, for example. Maybe I'm not explaining myself properly, idk.
I think MI7 just ran up against a twice-in-a-decade movie phenomenon. That's it. It has nothing to do with the quality or reception of it.
Yeah pretty much. I think it's also related to the fact that the big blockbuster model is kind of due for a revamp... there's just so many of these tentpole releases, they cost a lot more to make, and going to the big multiplexes is more and more expensive for a generally worse theatre experience, IMO. Dead Reckoning cost nearly 300 mill and that's only a bit less than Rogue Nation and Fallout combined...
By s y Go To Postapparently similar things have happened in her other movies so i think she just likes farts
I'm not surprised
Reilo is right, terrible release date. But Paramount wanted to get it out of the door and maybe they thought Tom Cruise carrying that Top Gun energy would roll over some boring movie and a Barbie flick.
They must be sweating for part 2.

I saw some stuff, like that Netflix movie The Harder They Fall with Idris and Majors. Pretty OK for a directorial debut I guess, but hard to pin down anything really interesting in it. It has some neat ideas. It deliberately went for a modern aesthetic but even what should've been striking visual spaces (like the saloons, or the 'white town') still came out looking flat. One of the flattest westerns you'll see. Sound design popped more and music was good; it has some musical performances interspersed within the film which I liked. It's a regular ass western with simple revenge story, and not as silly as the trailer made it look. It can get silly at times, but it's mostly serious.
I don't know, I don't want to call it just streaming content but it's what it is. It's definitely a much better effort than something like that Magnificent Seven re-thing which has no sense of nuance or style and thinks just putting Denzel (and Pratt lol) in your movie is gonna give it something. That said, the cast was stacked (Majors, Idris, Zazie, Regina King, LaKeith Stanfield, Delroy Lindo), but plenty underutilized which was a shame. It also ends with what I'm pretty sure was a studio mandated tease for a potential sequel, which it didn't need and you can tell the movie's heart wasn't interested in at all. We'll see.
Had no expectations going in, and it didn't bottom out which I guess is a plus.

MI will do fine
next time dont release your film at the same time as a iconic film with the hearts and minds of 4 Billion people.

By C4-621 Go To PostNobody watched Nolan's Following ??
Haha, this was my first thought looking at all the people ranking Nolan films.
I think it is great. Right ip there with Prestige for my favourite Nolan films.
By sohois Go To PostThe main reason I didn't bother seeing MI is because of that 2 part bullshit.I think that's my reasoning too. The 3 hour runtime and the fact that I realized recently I haven't even seen Fall Out also factored in. I'm going to sort that out this weekend as it appears to be on Hulu.
Late last night I watched this film called, Barbarian that HBO kept recommending. It started popping up after the first of three episodes of the Armie Hammer doc I watched about a month ago.
Anyway, that did not end up where I thought it was going to go at all. Pretty entertaining for a small horror flick.
Watched Oppenheimer
Was pretty good, nice cinema experience. But I don't really understand the point of the last 45 minutes. Maybe even hour. Did that all really need to be in the movie?
Anyways cool movie other than the last third.

Talk To Me was really good, despite an overuse of The Crazy Frog. I have one pretty big complaint the film did nothing to explain why the kids thought the experience was so great and attractive, literally everything they showed of it make it look horrendous. Both for the active participant and the people watching them. They don’t really try to explain what is going on (which in general is one of the bigger strengths) in the active participant’s mind, but aside from that I thoroughly enjoyed it
By reilo Go To PostPretty sure they shot a lot of Part II as part of that $300mil budget so it's a bit misleadingNah, budget got bloated due to COVID.
Oppie was good.
Put me in the 'liked it, didn't love it' camp. Emotionally it fell flat for me outside of a few scenes where Cillian and RDJ brought it and throughout the second act, which I thought was masterfully executed. Nolan's alien-like portrayal of everything and anything relating to women is once again in full effect, but that's par for the course. The third act didn't bore me, but it felt weirdly detached from the core narrative, like an appendix, a DLC, instead of feeling like the final chapter that brings everything together ... despite the numerous callbacks in it attempting to do just that.
I don't think I ever watched The Following, will remedy that in the following days.

Pretty cool movie
The whole thing was on YouTube
Incredible age we live in
I watched solaris on it as well. There was two full uploads of it with different subs and all... And then s link to buy it on YouTube as well, as the third option
1 to 7 (aka Saw 3D) came out every year on October from 2004 to 2010, Jigsaw came out in 2017 and Spiral came out in 2021.
I have for sure seen at least the first five, because I remember liking the twist of the detective tricking the FBI agent into the box and it crushing him wish sealed his fate. For whatever reason I never watched 6. Because of that I never got around to 3D, Jigsaw, or the one with the guy Will Smith slapped.
I did like the trailer for X (fuck you Elon). I understand the placement of this movie in the lore of the franchise so that's cool.

By WoodenLung Go To PostSpiral was absolutely terrible, i respect Chris rock for somehow getting paid doing thatGot a big chuckle out of me when a Spiral trailer ran as an unstoppable ad on YouTube. Looked like a real (generic) serious cop noir for most of it and then they drop the Saw name.
