Caught the rerelease of Local Hero yesterday. Recognised the extremely cheesy saxophone song over the end credits as being related somehow to football. Turns out it's a Newcastle anthem and people have it played at their funeral 🥴
air feels like a companion piece to the last dance rather than an engrossing, stand-alone film. it's hollow, but decent and fun enough to give it a watch.
Saw a review that said it's Scorsese's take on an Anthony Mann western. Can't be more hyped after hearing that.

wow lol
A self-professed “bee nerd,” she planned to apply for seasonal work with the Department of Agriculture tracking murder hornets — yes, murder hornets — that were wreaking havoc around the country at the time. But as she entered her credit card information, a Gmail notification alerted her to a request for a Zoom meeting with Martin Scorsese. The murder hornets would have to wait.

nine minutes of that shit?
allah, help him.
Celebrate him while he here.
I think he gets plenty of love he just hasn’t made a good film since… Collateral. Stuff like Thief and Heat are all-timers. Maybe his new film about Enzo Ferrari will be a return to form because holy fuck was Public Enemies and Blackhat bad.
Don’t think anyone shoots LA like he does.

Last of the Mohicans was the first rated R movie I saw because my parents thought it was so good that they took the whole family to see it.
Cruise keeps saving Hollywood's ass -- he is Hollywood -- and they can't even bother to nominate him for this one. Criminal.

Rewatched All The President's Men, it's a classic. One thing I really appreciate about older films is how patient they are, with this film it takes its time and we learn what happens with the characters. It's a wonderfully written script.
If it were made today, there'd be horrible fast cutting, bizarre music choices and every scene would end with a dramatic beat, lol.

A lot of modern media fails to build tension because producers are too concerned with run time. They don't let scenes build and breathe.
I think I saw a comparison not too long ago of how the Godfather scene where Michael in the restaurant would lose all tension if the editing was cut quick and make his inner conflict not be on display at all. It would've resulted in a choice that seemingly felt sociopathic and easy to him.

Are they really that concerned with runtime? Movies are longer than ever. It feels like are just less concerned with pacing.
you guys are watching the wrong films. Unless you're specifically talking about modern blockbusters or something. Also, feels like runtimes are longer than ever before.

from an IMDB data dump: https://towardsdatascience.com/are-new-movies-longer-than-they-were-10hh20-50-year-ago-a35356b2ca5b (where their takeaway is actually more towards runtime not changing significantly)

But to Freewheelin's original point(which I dont know if I agree with) an Reilo's response. I don't agree that modern editing choices are due to producers being concerned with run-time. I'd more readily accept that those choices are made to placate the shrinking attention span of the modern audience.
