Went to see GOTG3, off the back of RLM's positive review.
The serious parts were good, elevates it above your standard marvel film. It actually lands.

‘Beau’ is set to make a minuscule $150,000 at the box-office this weekend. When all is said and done, it’ll turn out to be the biggest bomb in A24 history, and it’s not even close.Announce the digital release date already A24.

yikes lol
Probably still better than Temple of Doom, though.

Indiana Jones as a broken, helpless old man who cowers in the corner while his patronising goddaughter takes the lead, but that's what we're given, and it's as bleak as it sounds.
Rocky did it best innit? His son didn’t become a boxer. That whole son or granddaughter is now the hero is lame in comic books, lame in anime, and super lame everywhere else.
Like what if James Bond had a daughter? Would she grow up to be Jane Bond? Come on

It does work when your father/mother didn’t achieve glory. That’s interesting. At the very least we the audience can’t have witnessed the glory.
By bud Go To Postwas anyone even asking for another indy movie? he's fuckin' 80 years old.The old farts who still run Hollywood think Indy is still a big deal
By Zabojnik Go To PostI liked it … but far less than the (limited, admittedly) hype surrounding it led me to believe I would.Didn't even know it was Guy Richie film until I put it on. Heard basically nothing about it so it was a good suprise that it was a more than decent watch.

Or a movie that analyzes how despite being next door to the worst place on Earth, human beings could successfully ignore all the suffering as long as it didn't directly affect them and live in peace

Go woke go broke
By reilo Go To PostFirst reply says it has a $300mil budget HOWIsn’t there a lot of Harrison de-aging? Also, elaborate set pieces aren’t cheap.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostReminds me of how bad fleabag was
Lmao

Was about to say the same. That's why you need to at least double the budget before you start making a profit.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostBudgets exclude marketingCheers, you’re right, just double checked it right after.

you can't even make a blockbuster for 150 million anymore.
Why didn't they just make up a new pulp hero doing adventures in the 70s-80s
Hollywood i know but Indiana of all IPs doesn't feel like one that really needs to be Indiana Jones

There's a scene in Fast X that I've never seen in a PG13 movie before and it's not a 10 second scene either. I'm surprised they got away with that.
Otherwise, THAT'S HOW YOU DO THE PART 1 of a FINALE!

My first thought was that sounds like prime Michael Haneke material.
GOTG 3 was genuinely great. Easily the best Marvel movie in quite a long time.
It helps that it didn't have to think about setting up sequels, multiverses and TV shows.
Gunn knows how to do a good comic book movie, it's funny, it has good action scenes and it's quite emotional.
It wraps up the story arch of the group in a near perfect way.
Gunn also knows to use the perfect songs from every situation, the last song in the movie was such a great song.
Really interested to see how he goes as the man in charge of the DC cinematic universe.
