By Punished Go To PostCouldn't stop thinking through ScreaVI that the cop was being played by Mel Gibson's non-union equivalent. What about Bella Ramsey?
Also, if you have the hots for Jenna Ortega then you're probably a paedophile.
Scream 6's marketing has been great, they made some fantastic posters.
The movie is doing well on the box office, Thursday's numbers were double of the last one and it's heading to have the biggest opening of the series.
If the numbers I saw from France are a reflection of the worldwide trend, by Sunday or Monday the movie will cross into profit territory.
Scream has to be one, if not the, most consistent horror franchises ever.
Only 3 can be considered a bad movie and even that one has a lot of good things.

watched ambulance last night and it was very dumb. quite bad, even.
and yet i watched it all the way through and don't regret it. the bit with the helicopters in the 'river' was cool. the spleen scene about summed up the film and perhaps michael bay in general though

Watched Scream 6 yesterday and something bugged me:
Mindy emphasised in her film rant that nobody is safe in big franchises anymore and she listed a bunch of major characters who died in other franchises but in this film, all the major characters survived. The only ones who died were the new characters of this film.

Regret to say I thought Scream VI was very bad. Shame, as I like-to-really-like the previous five.

I thought it was incredibly lazy and safe, and directly went against many of the established qualities of the series. The films pride themselves on knowing satire of slashers, but VI was full of all the genre’s worst tendencies. Emotional whiplash, predictable as fuck, too safe to the extreme, and characters constantly making boneheaded decisions. Some decent set pieces tho. And an extremely boneable cast.
By Willkiller Go To PostSeeing it in a few hours. Will report back.
Very nice 👏
By n8 dogg Go To PostJames Vanderbilt too. The man wrote Zodiac.
And then fifty shit movies.
Damn
Why the fuck was everyone pretty uneffected by being stabbed? And like…no one died? There was one person from the supporting cast I think and a couple of randoms, then the killers ofc.
Very very weird to remove all stakes from a slasher movie, they made it very clear quite early on that no one was dying. But never mind dying, people were getting stabbed all over the place and then it was just never mentioned again?
Twist was shit too, if you could even call it that. And why did they bring back Hayden Panettiere?
Very confusing movie. Worst of the franchise, easily.
edit: Oh, and why set it in NYC? The marketing made it seem like that was going to matter in some way, I guess they had the idea for the subway scene and worked backwords from there
This impressions are bumming me out. I'm really excited for Scream 6 but I also have a bigger tolerance to horror movies than most. Still think Halloween Ends was pretty good.

Well if it helps, it's been received well critically and fans seem to like it. That and your low horror movie standards (I'm sorry, there's just no getting around enjoying Kills and Ends) probably mean you'll quite enjoy it.
I genuinely don't understand the positive reception though, like...at all. The wiki says it's been praised for its performances and its kills. Performances are fine, sure. The kills? There's barely any and I don't really remember a single one
Speaking of good receptions, Dungeons & Dragons reviews have started to come out and they are positive, shockingly Shazam 2 is getting some praise (I thought it looked bad and I love David F. Sandberg), first impressions of John Wick 4 have been great and apparently there have been some Mario screenings and rumors are that the movie is fantastic.
This is going to be a big next few weeks at the box office.

I was curious how the Scream franchise is ranked on RT. From best to worst:
Critics:
Scream 2 - 82%

Yeah, some of my biggest issues with it.
Characters were so unaffected by people dying it was unbelievable. The first kills in the shop are one thing - three strangers murdered in public seems to go against the modus operandi a little, especially in a city like NY where you’d assume there’s CCTV everywhere - but when you had the roommate and girlfriend die, and Mulroney came out with his terrible fake tears, then within the same scene they’re all joking around with Courteney Cox…
Or when the sister goes missing on the subway with someone they suspect to be a killer, but her brother forgets this so he can give Ortega a little snog.
There was a bit at the end when they beat the killers where the sisters sit around laughing (despite telling Panettiere they’d get help) and then when they’re outside, one starts crying - this is where the writers remember they just killed off the love interest. But oh no! He’s back and fine despite having been stabbed fifty times half an hour ago and left to bleed out, and can even sneak in a kiss.
Very predictable too. It was obviously Mulroney because cops would have access to all the evidence and therefore the masks. You didn’t see the daughter die or her body, and because I knew it was him, I knew it was her. Then all three of them were so bad in the reveal scene - Mulroney in particular was just awful. Stupid shit like seeing his son stabbed in the face and we don’t see his reaction, then when his daughter is shot he runs towards Sam with his gun pointed at her instead of just shooting her. Then minutes later he’s making wisecracks despite believing both his children to be dead while we’re also led to believe he’s so torn apart by grief of the death of his son a year ago.
And worst of all, too safe. As FF said, they clarify no one is safe, and then… everyone is. The girl on the subway is stabbed, a knife twisted in her abdomen, dragged out by one of the killers, and then pops up running around like nothing’s happened to her at the end. Why didn’t they make sure she was dead? The guy who is stabbed 50 times survives. Why didn’t they make sure she was dead? Why does the shotgun dude in the shop get Ghostface’s attention so he can escape before he fires? Why does Sam call him fuckface when his back is turned instead of just shooting him? They even slip in that Cox survives, just in case someone thought there might be a semblance of threat. It’s full of all the wordt crimes of horror that the series is usually good at satirising. So far removed from the likes of killing Randy in 2 or Dewey in 5.
I’ll repeat though - very fuckable cast. Ortega is hot. Gooding is hot. Weaving is hot. Panettiere is hot. Mulroney is hot. Barrera is hot. And yes, I googled her naked and now I have to watch something called Vida.

I looked up the cast because I thought I recognised the girls’ roommate from somewhere (she was in an episode of House). Turns out she was also in the most melodramatic music video of all time from a young Miley Cyrus (she’s the first girl to appear)

If you have a photographic memory of miley cyrus videos from 14 years ago, you are probably a nonce tbh

I watched the Luther movie and it was very much more awful than all previous Luther-centric content.
Where I disagree with n8’s predictions:
Think they will split the director and picture. Might give Spielberg a lifetime achievement award.
Butler for best actor
Curtis or Condon for best supporting actress (although Bassett could still do the thing)

It still doesn't make sense to me that Cameron didn't get a Best Director nod. If the category isn't about recognizing the skill used to bring the best out of the medium, the technology, and the performances in imaginative ways then what is it about?
"Favorite director of my favorite movie"?
Same thing with Dune. It basically got nominated with every category that has something to do with making the movie, but not director.

I would disagree Avatar is about bringing the best out of performers, but yeah he should have been nommed I think.

But Dune got nominated for every category having to do with actually making the movie and the voters were like "but it's not the best directed"??? I don't even know what mental gymnastics they had to go through to come to that.

Sci-fi typically doesn’t get acting noms, and big heavy obvious CGI too implies that the director wasn’t boots on the ground, directing in difficult conditions and juggling weather, extras, time limitations etc. - “it’s all just done at the computer”.
