By data Go To PostFeel like I should watch PrometheusDont bother m8
beau is afraid is great. the first act is sensational. phoenix is a phenomenal actor. was actually blown away by him. the second act is great too, but it goes on for a tad too long. the third act is clearly its weakest act, but i still enjoyed all the twists and things that were happening. this is easily ari's best film yet for me. 4 outta 5 stars.
It’s the kind of balls to the wall experience you don’t get often in cinema.
Phoenix deserves another Oscar.

By Lupercal Go To PostWatch The Holdovers.
Was very good like. The trailer was not much like the actual film was.
Beau and anatomy of a fall still above it got me. But it's up there
Here's a digital copy of Past Lives if anyone is interested.
I'm going to go take a cold shower now and then watch Beau on Hulu.
Seeing Iron Claw and hopefully Poor Things tomorrow morning.

Watched all three Hobbit films followed by all three LOTR films for the first time this week.
Can’t believe how much influence Hidetaki Miyazaki has had throughout the years. That Balrog monster in Fellowship was a straight rip off of Flamelurker.

By WoodenLung Go To PostI dont really get the Mia Goth hype. Mid as fuck actress in mostly extremely mid films.I thought you liked Infinity Pool
Supposedly it got released here today at Cinepolis. But the closest one that has it is a 50 minute drive away from where I live.

i did say mostly. not that it was amazing, but yeah, i enjoyed it. despite of her.

Oh same for me. But holidays, so would happily make that trip. Local cinema is embarrassing.
By WoodenLung Go To PostOh same for me. But holidays, so would happily make that trip. Local cinema is embarrassing.Cinepolis screens here are hit and miss. They have some of the best (IMAX ofc, also something they call MacroXE), but also the smallest ones too and that's where most smaller films end up. All the good screens seem to be taken up by fucking Aquaman because why not.
And holiday season is different here. In CDMX it just means your average nuclear family (mom, dad and four u-12 children) are out watching Minions #17 or whatever, and most Cinepolis are still inside packed AF malls).
Metrograph is showing 2046 in 35mm but it's only 3 select showings for a week and I don't think I can go :(
By Xpike Go To Postthis but godzillaGodzilla probably won't be released domestically until April or May.
the best things about tár are its cinematography and blanchett's performance. the scenes without any cuts, especially the class at juilliard, almost feel too intimate. those scenes were really well done. didn't care that much for the overall film, though. the ending was depressingly funny. 3.5 outta 5 stars.
Posting now and never editing so Fortune can berate me in January when noms come out and again when the actual ceremony is, and Laboured can berate me now.

The Holdovers - Fine but I'm not sure I'm ever going to particularly jive with Alexander Payne's work at this point.
Saltburn - Also fine but silly. At least Pike gets some fun lines.

Only interesting Oscar category is International picture.
Watched Night of the Hunter last night (of the hunter). Very good. Mitchum is so cool. I want knuckle tats now.

By FortuneFaded Go To PostAre you talking about this year or in general?Every year. The international nominees are more interesting than whatevers in best picture.
That may be so but the award is usually one of the most obvious beforehand. Like last year, All Quiet was also listed as Best Picture and given it was the only international film to do so, it was obviously going to win.

Zone of Interest wins I think
Was funny clocking Radio Raheem’s speech from DTRT comes from NotH lol
Watched that there Witness for the Prosecution this afternoon, on iPlayer. Good stuff. Twist city over here.

Like last year, All Quiet was also listed as Best Picture and given it was the only international film to do so, it was obviously going to win.Past couple of years maybe but not usually the case. There's rarely a breakout non-English language film (and therefore going to be known by the voters)
The Criterion Blu-ray for Night of the Hunter comes with so much additional content. And it's all incredible. There's a two hour making of doc on the second disc. There's just so much footage. It's really worth seeking out and owning if you enjoyed the film.
Re-watched 45 Years tonight, it’s a quiet and devastating film, with some beautiful, naturalistic acting from Rampling and Courtney. Would have loved a little bit more from the climax but it’s the type of film that doesn’t need it. Very good film.
Half way through watching John Woo's Silent Night and I gotta say folks this movie asks some hard-hitting questions about latinx people.
Is the main character a mute and that's why it is called Silent Night? I got that from the trailer, but then the featured review quote said it would leave me speechless and idk, that sounds (heh) a bit ableist imo.
Watched more kino from inkyland. Totem was good and sad.

Having only seen pulp fiction via references , it's really weird seeing the second half of the movie for the first time

The exorcist?
By Crusher Go To PostSpeaking of first times, last night I finally saw The Exorcist. Was talking about this with my ma recently. Said when she saw it for the first time as a teenager in the eighties she had to sleep with the lights on for weeks it was so scary.
