By Freewheelin Go To PostSo, while scrolling through my Letterboxd today, I realised, as we reach the end of the year, that I've only seen 12 films that have been released this year out of the 71 films overall I have seen this year. Will be seeing that Godzilla Minus 1 tomorrow, so that'll be an extra one on the list, but that is honestly surprising to me considering how much I'm at home.i watched 121 movies this year and 91 were released in 2023 lol.
I saw 28 that were released last year, lol
By Laboured Go To PostThat is one heck of a low bar to clear.
God damn
The result is (the first half of) a singularly torturous slog that tries — and fails, and fails, and fails again for 134 minutes of agonizing tedium that are only interrupted by the occasional jolt of sadness for the wasted talent of everyone involved — to distill an iota of creative value from pre-existing images that never seemed worthless until Snyder tried to make them unique. It’s the cinematic equivalent of an NFT.

this sentence also feels like a singularly torturous slog that tries, and fails.

He's not a good director. Sucker Punch remains once of the worst movies ever made and he somehow finessed WB to release the 'Snyder Cut' of the Justice League movie. It's worse than the theatrical release in every way and a fucken embarrassment that something 4 hours long still can't tell a coherent story.
I can just about tolerate Watchmen (nicest thing I can say about it is I sometimes forget it's a Snyder movie) and possibly 300. Day of the Dead is passable. Other than that just pure shite.
it's no coincidence that the only Zack Snyder movies i liked i watched as a teenager.
i highly doubt i would still like them if i was ever bored enough to rewatch any.

A disgusting film. Skeevy when you are told what is actually going on. I am disappointed that more people didn't see through his bullshit after that.
This man made the mediocre Man of Steel (watch Birdy the Mighty instead), Batman vs. Superman (never seen it all, but it's a meme-generating factory - "Martha" etc.), and Justice League (again, never seen all of it and the bad parts are bad, even with the unfortunate extenuating circumstances in his personal life).
300 is more than decent as the first major movie in that style. I prefer the nautical aspect of the sequel, Eva Green, and the Xerxes backstory elements in the sequel. I'm very much an outlier on that. Watchmen has a lot of things going on and he kind of pulls it off. However, he was very much in the style and fanciness > story and purpose headspace so he doesn't always hit the mark.
Never saw his Day of the Dead movies.
Was quite impressed with Godzilla: Minus One. Tjr budget was apparently $15m and it looked way better than that suggests for a modern Godzilla film lol
It's a concert movie and it was/ is being shown in theatres so I guess it counts.
The Eras Tour concert movie was so good. Incredibly well shot and edited, it looks superb on 4K.
I'll definitely get the physical release and hopefully that one will have "Cardigan" as it is the biggest song that was performed on that night but didn't show up on either the theatrical cut or was it one of the 3 extra songs on the home release for rent.
It's a great recording of what is the biggest tour ever in terms of revenue (the second biggest was Elton John's farewell tour with 939M$ against TS's 1.039B$ but Elton John's tour lasted 5 years and had 330 shows while The Eras Tour was just this year and played 60 shows).

By Laboured Go To PostSnyder fans, man.
Tokyo Godfathers yesterday and Godzilla Minus One today. Excellent stuff.
Godzilla probably the best of the last decade of Godzilla movies and all-round a really good action movie.

This might be a 'sy watching movies on a phone ' take but I've realized I can't finish a single movie in one sitting. I always have to come back another day to finish it. Or if it's 3 or more it'll be 3 to 4 days
