I bought the Past Lives BD for $10 last night. Hope to watch that tomorrow or Tuesday. Got that After Hours 4k Criterion too while it was on sale.
Hot Fuzz is good fun!
By Freewheelin Go To PostHot Fuzz has Canadians? Lol😂 I'm thinking Super Troopers! 🙈

By C4-621 Go To PostDune was alright. That's my hot take I guess
Agree. Ended when it was getting interesting.
By bud Go To Post- the seventh seal is almost unwatchable save for the chess scenes.
- michael bay is great his transformers movies are fun.
- coppola got lucky with both godfather films and apocalypse now; the rest of his career is really nothing to write home about.
agreed. i think he's gotten better over time with ouatih being his best-directed film, though. .
The Conversation is Coppola’s best movie. Dracula is also great.
Saying ‘he got lucky’ with three of the best movies ever made lol.
I also think Inglourious Basterds is QT’s best directed movie. OUATIH cannot touch it for pacing, tension or overall performances. Pitt’s performance is wildly overrated in OUATIH, while it’s Leo’s career-best performance.
Pulp Fiction is still my favorite of his, but Bastards is his best written as far as characters and scenes.
The tone of everything he's done post Jackie Brown seems a lot lighter and more comedic, despite the subject matter (Nazi's, slavery, etc.) being very serious. Pulling that off the way he has in and of itself takes talent.

By reilo Go To PostThe fact that Coppola managed to follow up Godfather 1 with Godfather 2 is basically unheard of.Such a grueling production that Paramount went ahead and made a series out of it. No clue if it's any good.
Only controversial takes I can think of at the moment is that A Clockwork Orange is a bad film, If Beale Street Could Talk is better than Moonlight, and Terminator 1 is much better than T2.

conversation left me hanging on "good" the second time i watched it. it's been years since i last saw it, though.
i don't remember much of the one with keanu.

i'm seeing this in the theatre tomorrow.

That's not controversial, it's just factually correct.

Agree with 2 and 3 (but T2 is still fucking great)
I guess my controversial hot takes would be that I think Forrest Gump is an utterly terrible film and has an equally terrible message and Blade Runner 2049 is a much better film than OG Blade Runner.
By Freewheelin Go To PostBlade Runner 2049 is a much better film than OG Blade Runner.Worst take in the thread so far
Blade Runner 1 is carried almost completely by its aesthetic. Not even a wild take lol. It's not even a "looking back" thing either - even back in the 90s that was the feeling.
both bladerunners great, and imo, about the same quality.
maybe i should change my name to AestheticKinoEnjoyer
I will leak shit I make up

Children of Men and Forrest Gump takes are killing me.
Michael Bay being good isnt controversial imo, theres just a very specific lane for him.
Watching Leave the world behind, nearly finished but Marsha has such an aura about him man.

think i fell asleep at times in the theatre during that one.
amother that made me do that was bill murray’s zombie movie that came out a few years ago.

Watched this last night. Was much better when what was going on was left ambiguous tbh.
By Hixx Go To PostWatched this last night. Was much better when what was going on was left ambiguous tbh.
Exactly my thoughts too Hixx.
Nice cast, decent acting, I get the whole we rely on technology too much thing but if thats the point of the film then there a million ways it could have been done better.
As more got revealed I was very much like O.
Between this and moody john wick cant say I've loved the most recent film content from netflix.
I took it to be more of a character study than a macro look at reliance on technology / weak bonds in modern societies. I liked theFriends thing at the end even if it was coming a mile off.

That is the worst 4K compressed trailer I have ever seen. WB must have fucked up the upload, it's almost unwatchable.
EDIT: quality improves after the first bit

Watched The Rock for the first time tonight. The weakest out of the '90s big 3 Cage action films, but still a very enjoyable watch. Connery was great.
Face/Off > Con Air > The Rock
All good though

Face Off has one of the best ever premises for a film, it's fucking nuts lmao
It really shouldn't work but thanks to Cage and Travolta operating at 1000% during the entire running time, it doesn't matter
