By Perfect Blue Go To PostMichelle Yeoh losing to yet another Blanchett vehicle that will be forgotten in a few months would be a travesty. And I don’t even really care for EEAAO much.
Have you seen Tar tho
By Perfect Blue Go To PostMichelle Yeoh losing to yet another Blanchett vehicle that will be forgotten in a few months would be a travesty. And I don’t even really care for EEAAO much.Even if Tar was some forgettable film like Eyes of Tammy Faye or Judy - and it is far better than such films - it shouldn't really matter. The best performance should win the award, regardless of the film around it. Blanchett was just better than Yeoh
By n8 dogg Go To PostHave you seen Tar thoNot yet, but that’s besides the point, Oscar voters don’t even watch the films they vote for
By sohois Go To PostThe best performance should win the award, regardless of the film around it.Ideally yeah but it’s never been like this. There’s always some kind of internal politics and campaigning around these awards.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostIdeally yeah but it’s never been like this. There’s always some kind of internal politics and campaigning around these awards.I feel like that's less the case with the actor and actress awards, where you'll just get mediocre films like the ones I mentioned winning for the singular performances they have.

Sure, but nor have you and you’re calling it a travesty and something that’ll be forgotten soon lol
If only
Is DiPro an Oscar voter? Only way it makes sense to me that he’s seen like 50 2022 films

Mainly because of film festivals where i watch a ton of new stuff.
Yeoh didn't even give the best performance in her own movie
But
Blanchett is overated af. Amy Adams with a scowl.
I'm torn

By DiPro Go To PostEverything Everywhere is now the Oscar favourite which i don't mind. i liked it best out of the candidates that have a chance at winning (basically Banshees, Fablemans, EEaaO)I still don't think it's going to get any nominations except for original screenplay. Quan might squeak by now through momentum, but it just isn't an Academy movie
maybe there's a late push for Tár.
By Not Go To PostI still don't think it's going to get any nominations except for original screenplay. Quan might squeak by now through momentum, but it just isn't an Academy movie
You think the top betting favourite to win one day before the noms are out will not get nominated?
By DiPro Go To PostYou think the top betting favourite to win one day before the noms are out will not get nominated?Yeah. These are the Green Book guys. These are the Hugo had the best special effects guys. Argo and The Artist fucking won
I think Fabelmans sweeps and Blanchette gets Actor
By DiPro Go To PostIt might not win but you doubted it will get nominated.Dude like I said, historically, weird movies with huge buzz get snubbed and everybody's like fuck the academy and then forget about it next year
I'll be surprised
What even is an “Academy” movie now? The voter base for these things are getting more and more international each year it’s kind of killing the idea of an “Oscar bait” film, IMO.

They release PR about expanding the membership all the time but it's like sprinkling a teaspoon of sugar into a gallon of salt
Variations might pop up from time to time but at the end of the day a 74-year-old bitter divorced white millionaire who didn't watch the movie is not going to get the hype

By Perfect Blue Go To PostOkay so what is an Academy film?I know "Parasite" definitely never won because 74-year-old bitter divorced white millionaires wouldn't understand a film about classism and wealth disparity.
diehard you know I'm right
ke huy quan MIGHT get a nom but eeaao doesn't have a prayer when TWO entertainment industry movies like fabelmans/tar are in the mix

I haven't seen any of them so I can't actually make any sort of informed comment lol
I used to watch all these movies but the past 1.5 years or so...

Watched Good Time last night and yeah these guy’s films just aren’t my thing, oh well. The extreme amount of closeups and the style of editing is just way too chaotic the entire time. Preferred Uncut Gems’ more in that it’s buildup is much better paced.
Decent caper with some unreal music - had to wait about 10 minutes into the opening credits to find out the soundtrack was done by Oneohtrix Point Never. So sick

100% that EEAAO is getting Picture, Director, Actress, Sup Actor, Sup Actress and Original Screenplay noms. Maybe Editing and Cinematography too.
My noms guess is
Picture: EEAAO, Banshees, Tar, Fabelmans, Top Gun, Avatar, Elvis, All Quiet. (maybe Women Talking or Triangle of Sadness sneaks in too)
Director: Spielberg, Daniels, McDonagh, Luhrmann, and either Field or Cameron
Actor: Farrell, Fraser, Butler, Nighy, and Mescal or Jackman
Actress: Blanchett, Yeoh, Deadwyler, Williams, Davis
Sup Actor: Quan, Gleeson, Keoghan, Dano and Hirsch. Maybe Redmayne instead of one of the last two.
Sup Actress: Condon, Bassett, Curtis, Chau and Buckley (maybe Hsu instead of Buckley)

Avatar is a lock for FX and art direction and maybe more of the technicals, but I don't think it'll get anything more than a pity nom in the bloated best picture space. Would be happy to be wrong, IMO Cameron deserves Best Director

Blanchett put in the best her best work in Tar.
Field should win best director too. The lecture scene in Tar is better than anything else I have seen this year
