By reilo Go To PostHow does Raising Arizona hold up?
I watched most of the Coens during lockdown and Raising Arizona was bottom of my list. The opening up to the main title is glorious, possibly one of my favourite film openings. But the rest of it was just... not for me. Lots of screaming.
To be fair, I would have probably ranked Burn After Reading lowest if not for the brilliantly executed twist.
1. Fargo
2. No Country
3. Llewyn Davis
4. O Brother
5. A Serious Man
6. Buster Scruggs
7. Hail, Caesar!
8. The Big Lebowski
9. Miller's Crossing
10. True Grit
11. Intolerable Cruelty
12. Burn After Reading
13. Raising Arizona
Still have yet to see Blood Simple, Hudsucker, Barton Fink, The Man Who Wasn't There or the Ladykillers. (Or Macbeth, I guess.)
I don't know how I never saw Butterfly Kisses before today as I love found footage/fake documentaries.
This was really good and original for such a crowded genre.
Highly overlooked to the point that there are only 5 reviews on RT 5 years after release and they are all very positive.
A very interesting take on found footage and documentaries that goes on a different way than I expected.
Definitely recommend it.

I didn't realize it was a musical. That explains why so many of the girls are unknowns. They're all theater performers. It should have stayed on the stage but it's smart to not advertise it's a musical.
Clearly not the best movie of all time. Doubt it would make my top 50 if i made a list but probably my favourite movie ever.
Really enjoyed Anatomy of a Fall yesterday. Although because I'm a sicko/moron I wanted a more lurid ending.
I assume that somewhere there's a business plan for what to do once they've flooded the market with so much complete guff that people just lose interest. Especially with the knowledge that RDJ, Evans and Boseman are gone. Guess they might be able to put enough money on the table to get the first two back.
They may not have known when exactly they'd reach the tipping point, but they must have known there was a chance it was coming. Has there ever been a franchise that's been so prolific for so long before? Even Star Wars never came close afaik

I think there's just too much Marvel stuff out there across Disney Plus and the films. Now that the films are directly following up on things happening on TV, it requires the viewers to do homework and mass audiences aren't gonna do that.
That said, Deadpool 3 will do very well and this really only starts to matter again for Captain America.

Writings been on the wall for sometime re Marvel. People mentions quality issue and while that may contribute to people loosing interest I just think franchise fatigue has set in. 11 years, 24 films, culminating with end game (or spiderman if you wanna be technical) just felt like such huge climax. So having to start again right just feels exasperating. I don't think many have the quality of the phase 4 films would change that. Was an awesome run, infinity war and end game were peak cinematic experiences. The build up and hype of those 21 films leading to IW and end game. Don't think they had to be great films ( although I'd say they had about 6 stand alone greats) for people enjoy their childhood comic hero's on the big screen.
By Laboured Go To PostThought The Killer was decent enough.
Gunna watch after motd
Wait relio with click bait headline post, they said they couldn't promote because of strikes so not a fair indication.

Barbie made $1.5b during the strike
I don't wanna hear it

But Barbie was able to be promoted heavily, I think their point was they couldn't get off adequate promotion due to strikes. I don't disagree with my post about it really being over or certainly heavy downward spiral but I just don't think this film opens up at 47 million with better promotion.
Nah breh stop it. Acting like an interview with Brie Larson in Good Morning America would've changed anything 😂😂
Can't be making excuses like this. Shit's been shit, accept it.
You said it yourself, noone wants these side characters. People showed up for the original cast, noone wants to see Falcon and the Winter Soldier in place of Evans.

marvel has massively dropped the ball with making any interesting characters after like, black panther. shang chi, new captain america, new hawkeye, new black widow, no one gives a shit

Has anyone gone back to watch Rogue One after Andor?
Found it really boring and stopped watching halfway through at the time, wondering if it's any better now

the only comic book shite I care about other than Batman is Blade and they're gonna fuck that up massively, it's already looking like a trainwreck.
The Killer is a good movie, Fincher has an amazing eye for setting scenes

I could be tempted to care about Spiderman, but the more I think about the three Holland films, the more I think they're all fucking awful.

Second one in particular was miserable. Keaton and Defoe are fun in 1+3, but that fucking bit with Peter walking across a tulip field and Happy’s helicopter is just fucking up the entire thing. That poor farmer. And Peter doesn’t give a shit, because why would he? Not a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man anymore. Just a cunt.

Rogue One was always fucking terrible for the first 45 minutes-hour. So disjointed. No sense of flow or cohesion.
The stuff once they get on Scarif is good.
fell asleep during Rogue One opening day and never had the urge to go back and watch it again because everything up to that point was so damn bad.
Holland Spiderman movies are fine for the most part.
Homecoming is great thanks to Keaton being a good villain. Also, Holland is a great Peter Parker, the best of the 3.
Far From Home is ok, Mysterio isn't that interesting a villain and the story focuses more on Iron Man's legacy than Spiderman.
No Way Home has the 3 Spidermans working together and it works suprisingly well, but the way they get there storywise is so, so, so stupid.
1 - 3 - 2

Aye-up, the poppy respecter has logged on.
I've liked Holland as Spidey, he brings a fun energy to the character that was needed, but the films themselves are so poorly written and directed. No Way Home was just a nostalgia wank fest that was depressing to sit through, no sense of visual style.
I liked how Far From Home deviated from the usual formulaic MCU storyline by having Spiderman go on a school trip around Europe
