“The Marvels,” which opens in theaters on Nov. 10, will struggle to get the ball past the infield, at least by Marvel’s outsized standards. The movie, which cost $250 million and sees Brie Larson reprising her role as Captain Marvel, is tracking to open to $75 million-$80 million — far below the $185 million “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” took in domestically in its debut weekend last year.https://variety.com/2023/film/features/marvel-jonathan-majors-problem-the-marvels-reshoots-kang-1235774940/

By Laboured Go To PostNever understood the love for Ratatouille. Just a movie about a cartoon rat. Big whoop.
one of the posts more lacking in nuance, i would say
imagine describing terminator 2 as just being a film about an Austrian robot
All the while, Marvel was bleeding money, with a single episode of “She-Hulk” costing some $25 million, dwarfing the budget of a final-season episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones, ”LOL

As public criticism mounts, Feige is pulling the plug on scripts and projects that aren’t working. Case in point: the “Blade” reboot. With Mahershala Ali signed on for the eponymous role of a vampire, things looked promising for a 2023 release date. But the project has gone through at least five writers, two directors and one shutdown six weeks before production. One person familiar with the script permutations says the story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women and filled with life lessons. Blade was relegated to the fourth lead, a bizarre idea considering that the studio had two-time Oscar winner Ali on board.oh my god

He's not even meant to be Austrian in it. 🚮
More from the Variety article. The MCU has gotten so cold that they're considering bringing back the bigger stars. But that's only a band-aid really. I doubt they'll stock around for another 5 movies unless they get paid exorbitant amounts. Which may actually be worth it from Disney's view.
Really want to know what happened to Marvel post Endgame. Seems like they extended themselves too far and couldn't commit enough time and resources to adequate pre-production.

the truth is that no matter who you are, how successful you are, after 10 years of non stop domination people will want something new

Also more enjoyable than a final season episode of GoT.
Amazing that they haven't made a single x men movie or show yet.
Movies with the big hitters and you can have your Disney plus show(s) focusing on the school, endless prequel shows about xavier/magneto/x. Seems obvious.
How are you making an eternals movie when you have the x men?

I like Brie Larson. She has been done dirty by the Captain Marvel movie, the terrible Marvel fans giving her crap, un-affiliated weirdos giving her crap, and this sequel which looks bad seemingly diminishing her relevance.
As for Majors, yeah, he and Marvel a fucked. Innocent, guilty, or somewhere in-between, this isn't going to work out. They can re-cast since I guess Kang can have multiple iterations of himself or something. That puts another unfair burden on the replacement. So good luck there.
And for overall Disney/Marvel, Endgame was the end. I'm not the first person to say that. The magic was done there. You had all your phases culminate with that movie. Since then it's been running on fumes, vapors of a better time.

They could’ve easily started a new fun and successful era but it was never going to happen with their method of cranking them out like a donut factory.
How the hell do they spend so much money on Quantumania or The Marvels or Eternals, like… does anybody actually stop to think about these movies before they commit 250 million on them?

Even Ironman was completely unknown until those movies launched the entire thing.

The decisions to follow-up Endgame with the bench unit of Winter Soldier, Falcon, Wanda, Ant-Man, and Captain Marvel is hilarious. Noone cares about these actors and their characters.

A film with a bunch of weird characters like Guardians of the Galaxy made over a billion. Even Ironman was completely unknown until those movies launched the entire thing. Those movies had much lower budgets and BO expectations. $250-300mil for a Brie Larson and her teenage friends movie is somehow worse than either IM2 or Thor 2. At least those movies had actors and characters the general populace wanted to see.
Bet you a lot of those budgets are dedicated to the actor salaries, they need to keep offering more and more for anyone to consider joining the sinking ship

Thor 2 was terrible but Captain America and Iron Man 2 aren’t that bad at all.
My problem is far from them focusing on new characters, by all means that’s great, the problem is how bad they are. Eternals, Quantomania, Captain Marvel, it’s like they were made by people that legit don’t give an arse about what they are making. They aren’t just bad, they are terrible.
I’m not surprised somebody tried to turn Blade into a story about girls teaching us life lessons. Marvel is being completely misguided by people who clearly don’t like the characters, and since Disney is risk averse af, the only way they allow a proper brain to chip in is if they have to. Sam Raimi was a desperate hire and he saved Multiverse of Madness.
Even the early films were all 150-200m budgets, so it's not that big a difference.
It's easy to say now that the first Captain marvel just rode off the success of Infinity War, but I don't think it was a bad bet that a film which made a billion would produce a reasonably successful sequel. This one is probably being pushed down the string of recent crap, just as the first one was lifted up.

This Captain Marvel also needs knowledge of at least two TV shows locked away on a subscription service to fully understand
Multiverse of Madness was nonsensical shit which also showcased how not even the people making the movies can keep up with all the tv shows and movies
But yeah I think a big problem is how none of these characters are Iron Man or Captain America, does anyone really care about Captain Marvel, or the new anti vaxxer Black Panther?

By n8 dogg Go To PostDon’t know why they wouldn’t just recast Majors at this point. You clearly haven't seen his riveting performance as Victor Timely in Loki S2. It transcends domestic abuse.
Does anyone care about any of the Marvel characters beyond RDJs iron man and Spider man?
The first Marvel xmen will blow away the rest of their cast.
The first Marvel xmen will blow away the rest of their cast.
Marvel was done after Endgame, like I've said. They built a compelling villain with their best characters and made a satisfying ending despite the uneven quality of the buildup. Everything else has been garbage.
It's no surprise their only good post-Avengers movie was, what? Guardians 3, which works because it's a coda to the team that ignores all the connected universe shit, and instead provides closure for those characters. Despite the "new beginnings" final scenes, that's just a smart endpoint that signifies growth and knows when to let go.
If they want to move on, they need to let that shit rest. Put Doom out there maybe, build the X-Men with a different take, kinda like what Gen V is doing.

When you feel untouchable and are in a position with seemingly infinite amounts of money coming in, you think spending $250 mil is fine because you'll make ~$350 mil domestic and maybe the same amount of more internationally. As the article states, quality diminished with Marvel films, and the budgets are due to shoddy scripting and last-minute changes. Throwing money at the issue to resolve issues in post-production and well, they're where they are now.
Think everyone liked the Guardians, liked Thor after 3 and the Avengers movies, people tolerated Black Widow I guess? Now everyone is about Wonder Woman level of likeability
also lol how much until hbo, paramount, all those just cease to exist

If the studios were smart, they'd all unite to create 1 streaming platform. When you log in you are greeted with a studio card that shows the latest movies from that studio. The order of the displayed studio cards is up to them. When you pick on Paramount is shows you all of their stuff like it does on P+. When you click on the WDB card you have the Max interface. Universal, and so on and so forth. It's actually pretty said that they thought they could launch their own services for the own catalogs of film/tv and now that stuff is being sold off to Netflix. Either figure it out or admit defeat and force people like me to sign up for Netflix and be done with it.
Looking at letterboxd after watching the Beetlejuice last night. The most liked reviews feature lots of thirsty comments about 15 year old Winona Ryder. Dudes rock!

Did Black Panther 2 not do well without the Boseman?
Deadpool 3 will have Wolverine and apparently, Jennifer Garner. Surely that's going to do decent for Disney.

The current roster of Marvel characters being pushed are mostly uninteresting and they’re building Kang up to be the big bad yet he got defeated by ants in his debut. Shit’s deflated.
They made a dumb mistake killing Tchalla, and they did it for the exploit buck too which is insane to me. They threw a funeral to They are going to have to multiverse the shit out of this. They could’ve just sent him away into the shadows, built him back up a bit. So if Reeves tragic accident happened between Superman 2 and Superman 3, we would have Marvel of today floating the idea of putting Superman in a wheelchair. And he would have to fly with the wheel chair otherwise legs flapping around because he can’t feel them. Steel wheel chair because he’s the man of steel.
Is this even what Boseman wanted? Is what I’m asking.
