By s y Go To Postwent with the x264 2.7gb file. I'm playing this on a tv off an external hddPretty much 50% better video compression (can vary, obviously). So either a smaller size or higher quality for the same size.
for future reference, what's so great about x265?
thanks, will look for that going forward. All the x265 ones I see are the huge files though.

The bit where she's smashing the sculptures was probably about two minutes, but it felt like two hours.
By NiceGuy Go To PostThe bit where she's smashing the sculptures was probably about two minutes, but it felt like two hours. The whole time I kept thinking it was building towards some clever reveal to make up for the prior, shitty reveal. Nope, just kept getting dumber.

This guy might actually have negative iq. probably watched the house that jack built and thought you were meant to sympathise with him

LMAO Richard Brody
He’s alright at times but other times waaaaaaaay off the mark. The other NYer film writer Anthony Lane is way better, IMO.

Watched Avatar two last night.
It’s gorgeous, but so paint by numbers it was painful, especially when stretched to 3 and a half hours. A lot of fat.
The 48fps stuff was cool, but it made the crash back to 24 super jarring.

the only shots that really look bad in 48 fps are the humans inside the submersibles
if you're not underwater or blue it's gonna look like a home movie

Although it's probably still better than the Guardian wondering if 2:30 awards bait classical music film is struggling at the box office because the main character is a woman
Richard Brody is honestly one of the worst critics going. Pretentious contrarian for the sake of being so, and not even entertaining about it.
Guardian reviewers are also shit. Everyone except Stuart Heritage on the culture side is rubbish.

I thought so too. But I do like both.
By Punished Go To PostJim spittin...
Megan sequel announced and set to release January 2025. The tweet which I saw it from lists a couple of returning actors which is spoliery for a recently released horror film.
By Punished Go To Post
yeah ok. but dont release long ass films without a pee break. i miss more of a film at the cinema when i have to go piss out of my penis, than i do at home watching a film. unless the film is really shit.
imo avatar should have a scene, where the smurfs just go ahead and say 'we will not sit quietly here for 5 min, while you can go piss'. force the cinemas to give us that break.
By Punished Go To PostIt's both but yeah he's right
Shit. The Warlock franchise is one of those not so great horror franchises that I quite like and he was good on that.
He also was on that insane piece of trash that is Boxing Helena.

Watched Malignant. Wasnt very good, but also not as bad as I expected hearing some people talk about it. Proper 2.5/5 kind of horror film.
the writers know good podcasts, inshallah

“I’m going to take a moment when the dust clears to assess what people loved and what they responded to the most in this current release, and then I may go back and tinker a little bit [with ‘Avatar 3’],” Cameron said. “We may go back and do a couple of moments here and there. It won’t be radical, but maybe fine-tune it a bit to emphasize that which people are responding to.”Avatar 3 is going to come out in 2030
“For example, Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people went with,” Cameron continued. “So I might find ways to…he’s already the narrator. I’m giving away something here, but this is OK. I think it could be intriguing for people to think about what’s coming. Jake was our voiceover narrator for movie one and for movie two, and we have a different narrator for each of the subsequent films. We see it through the eyes of a different character. Movie three is through Lo’ak’s eyes.”
By Laboured Go To PostMan I liked Dogtooth so much. And also Lobster.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostThe Favourite is incredibleI haven't seen this one!
I did watch Dogtooth and I remember liking it. Lol so I've been a fan of this guy without knowing huh? Purest form of appreciation
I thought the Favorite was decent but I hardly remember anything about it besides the actress who played the Queen did a really good job.
Easily the weakest of the 3 movies I'd seen from the director. Felt like anybody could have made it. When I watched Sacred Deer, it felt like it had to come from the guy who directed The Lobster.

Started watching Aftersun at 5am but fell asleep about 20 minutes in.
Definitely gonna finish it, I like that long, silent scene in the beginning where the dad is smoking outside. I dozed off during a similar scene where he was looking through the camcorder footage. The kid actor is really good.
I can tell this probably gonna be a sad story so props to the movie for conveying that without anything happening yet.
Also, I'm still annoyed by how bad Glass Onion was smh

The Quiet Girl brilliant as well. Quite a bit more underplayed, but somewhat in the same vein.
