By n8 dogg Go To PostWhat’s the point of having the world’s most expensive defender when he’s a signing borne out of panic rather than a comprehensive strategy?
Not picked by a manager with a vision, or by a sporting director, but because he’s a big name. Then training at a facility that isn’t state-of-the-art, and playing next to a partner who doesn’t complement them because they were bought on a whim by a previous manager who again didn’t have the apparatus around them.
The Glazers have not invested in the football club. They might have spent the club’s money on the playing squad, but that is not the same as developing the infrastructure required for sustained success, and they have not shown a willingness to put in anything that constitutes long-term vision.
They have not put in any money of their own. They didn’t even buy the club with their own money. They have multiplied the debt of the club by umpteen amounts. They pay themselves colossal dividends despite years of failure. They know that the global reach of the club means there’s a lot of fans placated by the shiny new 90m signing, who increase marketing opportunities but not the club.
Liverpool having had the five years or so they have had is because of smart investment; I’m not going to give the Glazers any credit for a) stupid investments and b) investments the club would have generated the funds for regardless of anything they have done. They have not provided any value to the club. They skated under the radar when Ferguson was winning things with dogshit players (he replaced Ronaldo with Valencia for 25m and Owen on a free signing), and when things went tits up because of their inept appointments they thought throwing one big lump sum at something shiny every once in a while would fix things.
Thanks, much clearer now.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostIf I go out to improve my home but end up buying the world’s most expensive defender, then I have invested in my football team. When you look at the football club, at the training facilities, the stadium, the trophy cabinet and you can't see the investment.
I am not trying to be facetious here. I genuinely want to know what United fans expect. For me investment has been there, but it is just that most of them have been flops under shit managers.
By Ashwinho Go To PostEvening lads, have Arsenal lost to Newcastle yet?
By FilthyFrenchBaguette Go To PostBenfica and Porto are European 🤓.
Seems like Madrid and City do go in for youngsters in SA and we did get Martinelli.

Reinier was a flop, Silva had heart issues poor guy.
Jese... terrriiibllleeee attitude sheesh, he had so much promise prior to his injury, and was actually proving it on field. After that 1 injury he was done and dusted though. Good riddance, but congrats to them for their wild lifestyle.

Ødegaard and Tcho the famous south american footballers.
That run of South American players Palermo had... Cavani, Dybala, Pastore. Inshallah. Bring back Zamparini from the dead.
After firing Real Madrid into the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, Jese Rodriguez has set his sights high by revealing he wants to win the Ballon d’Or within the next four years.
….
But Jese certainly isn’t lacking ambition, as he revealed: “I believe in myself. I have dreamt about winning the Ballon d’Or in four years’ time.”
By Cleff Go To PostToo bad Jese never had a team-mate like Courtois. That would've added extra spice to this story.
By WoodenLung Go To PostØdegaard and Tcho the famous south american footballers. You know it.

By Shanks D Zoro Go To Post4-1 incoming. The lads plus Saliba with the goals.
By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostCome on you Gunners.
To N9’s point, the Glazers are basically the parents of a child star who get treated with their own money. Maybe Ronaldo was right.

Mendes wasn't involved in the deal, Ronaldo's personal manager was the one who did it and he made 30M€ off this deal.
