By markao Go To PostBoth defences aren't rock solid, suspect at times. Specially France ther left side, easy to overload as MBob does not have to track back.
England has best/balanced midfield in this WC
France more dangerous up front, MBob only true superstar this WC
50/50, both are way better if they get 1 st goal
brother messi has been popping

Messi is still a freak even in his decline. He's making dozens of precise, first time passes and feints look simple as anything. Anybody can do them on occasion, nobody does them with his consistency and regularity that high up the pitch.
Hope the rest of the Ro16 got at least some fight in them, every single weak opponent sans Australia has lost the match in the first half

What we think of 2026 world cup format?
16 groups of 3. Top 2 in each group make it through, bottom team goes home. Massive 32 team knock out round ensues.
Europe goes from 13 teams to 16
Africa goes from 5 teams to 9
South America goes from 4-5 teams to minimum 6
Asia goes from 4-5 teams to minimum 8
North America goes from 4 teams to minimum 6
Oceania goes from 0-1 teams, to minimum 1

Sounds great, more football for everyone, more people joining the WC party, more money for Infantino, don't see the problem.
So Southgate has his job secured for the next couple of years, right? Can’t see him being sacked because we lost to France.
Sir Gaz for life imo. Great atmosphere in the group, good in interviews, what more can you ask from a NT manager?
No shame in going out in the QF to the world champions and heavy favourites.

Hate it. The group stage loses all its tension. The quality will be even worse than usual.
Don't think we've got much to fear from France, you take Mbappe out of their team from today and you say England should win it. Never mind could. But of course he is there, our midfield is so much better than France's though we've got a good chance to smother them and cut off the supply
By FortuneFaded Go To PostA classicThis can’t be real
Team of the tourney so far for me, Clive:
Lloris/Pickford (no real standout keepers, Alisson best at tourney but hasn’t had a save to make)
Dumfries, van Dijk, Maguire, Hernandez
Bruno, Casemiro, Bellingham
Mitoma, Messi, Mbappe
1-1, lose on pens imho
Agreed. It’s going to be closer than people think. France have the best player at the tournament, and the Mbappe/Giroud link up will cause trouble, but it’s doable.
Think we’re currently fifth favourites behind Bra/Arg/Fra/Esp. Happy to keep it that way.

By FootbalIFan Go To PostWhat we think of 2026 world cup format?More teams = more football, that sounds great to me. Anything else is just conjecture and navel gazing until we actually see how it all turns out. Bet there were big Football Men years ago decrying the current format when it was first announced.

By n8 dogg Go To PostGonna be a lot of shit shit teams at the next one.Definitely, but international football is pretty lousy in general and you can count on one hand the amount of decent teams lol. To me it’s still the biggest stage where everyone plays like it’s their last game ever and that makes it exciting to watch. For 2026 I’m looking forward to seeing more lesser teams and that can only improve the world game as a whole, IMO.
By n8 dogg Go To PostHate it. The group stage loses all its tension. The quality will be even worse than usual.Imo the problem is that it's only 2 games so it's way easier for some big team to randomly get eliminated in group stage.
ATM it's just the perfect amount of games where you can both have upsets and have the bigger teams can still display their football superiority.
England France looks like it will be a case of which managers favourite screws up more. Maguire & Walker vs Rabiot & Griezmann

By NiceGuy Go To PostNahYep Mbop is amazing but he is no Messi as Messi is a complete anomaly in the entire history of football. Even if he has lost his pace he can still do things that Mbop can't even get close to doing,
Messi is still a freak even in his decline. He's making dozens of precise, first time passes and feints look simple as anything. Anybody can do them on occasion, nobody does them with his consistency and regularity that high up the pitch.
Bellingham is amazing for his age. So confident on the ball, every team would love a player like him.
