By Meier Go To PostNice goal by Choupo-Moting. Still the weirdest career arc in soccer history probably, lol.
It is truly something. But other sensational ones as well, I remember this write up, on this palermo lad some years back.
I was reading about Palermo forward Igor Coronado this morning. The Brazilian started off his career in 2007 with MK Dons' youth setup while still a teenager, but was released in 2011. (How a Brazilian guy ended up in Milton Keynes, idk.) After his released he joined Grasshopper Club Zürich's U21 team for a year but did nothing of note there either. After his release by Grasshoppers in 2012, Coronado dropped all the way down to the 7th tier of English football, joining Banbury United. He played just 4 matches for the club before signing for Maltese Premier League club Floriana. I again have no clue about why a Maltese Premiership club was even scouting the English 7th tier.
This is where his career started to take off. He scored nearly a goal per 2 games in his 3 years in Malta, with 32 goals in 63 games. Serie B club Trapani took an interest in him and signed him on loan before the 2015-16 season. After a successful loan spell, Trapani signed him permanently, and Coronado played the whole 2016-17 season, being a top performer and scoring 11 goals in 34 matches.
Newly demoted Sicilian club Palermo signed Coronado in summer 2017. This season, he's been in great form playing just behind the striker in Palermo's system — he's scored 6 goals and has 8 assists in 29 league matches this season, including a hat-trick last week vs. Carpi.
Now, Premier League Watford are reportedly taking an interest in signing him this summer. It would be an incredible peak for a guy who was playing 5 tiers below Watford just 6 years ago.
and now, he is in Saudi Arabia.
