Well, here we go...
Klopp has been there since we've had LVG, that's a long time. The squad needs to be refreshed. Especially when you think of the high energy level of football he requires for his system.
People seem really eager to brush it aside, but perhaps there is something to the whole 7 year burn out pattern with Klopp.
Be interesting to see what he does. He's never fully rebuilt his own team before.

This has been coming for Liverpool. They didn't invest enough into the squad when it was doing well, you have to keep it fresh and you have to introduce competition. There's been a fair few misses in Liverpool's transfer strategy, a lot of poor buys.
Ultimately even when they were doing amazing, it was a thin squad. There hasn't been any real competition for a lot of positions, when Liverpool were posting 90+ point seasons the fist XI was pretty much set, the bench always looked really weak but they avoided injuries and made it work. A lot of their players are getting old now and the younger ones they've bet on aren't too convincing. Curtis Jones has got way too many minutes in this squad for the level he is, for example.

have fun! i’m going to a feyenoord game next week.
would love to go see arsenal at some point, but those ticket prices (+ ticket to london) are ridiculous.

The point being that Liverpool were clearly hoping he'd step up and become a real option in midfield, he's approaching 100 senior apps for Liverpool. It never looked like he was good enough, but rather than buying a promising young midfielder they stuck with him and now they have a pretty poor option off the bench when Keita and/or Ox are injured (which is all the time...another issue)
I'd say he looked promising enough for the first 60 or so appearances, inconsistent but that was forgiven due to his age. He's still pretty young, but he's been really poor basically every time he's played in the last two 18 months or so. Had a lot of problems that have stopped him even training consistently, but still.
Pretty crazy that we've ended up with nobody in midfield who plays well, and is reliably available. Fabinho, Thiago, Henderson, Keita, Milner, Ox, Jones, Arthur 'The Party Animal' Melo. Eight players, and not one of the fuckers can be trusted at the moment. Our shortlist for midfielders to bring in must be long as, considering the way our season has gone.

This is only Jones' third season as a senior player. And he's probably missed about 10months of those through injury. Seems a bit short-sighted
With the exception of Thiago, all Klopp's CMs have been shuttlers and Jones can do that role decently, squad depth at least.
I'm just not seeing it unfortunately. Thought that Everton goal in the cup was gonna propel him but he's not had a moment or performance since that has come close. Around then he was putting in some tidy enough appearances, either from the bench or starting in cup games. First thing's first, he needs to get some decent decision-making back, which might come with more regular gametime. He was all over the place on the ball against Leeds.
Wish Elliott had even a semblance of athleticism.

Yeah my post wasn't about singing Jones out as the problem, the point was that he's the only young midfielder out of the lot and he isn't very good. The midfield has been getting older every season and nothing has been done about it. It's not just that there's not enough options, there's just not enough quality.
Liverpool have been quite good in recent years in introducing fresh blood to the attack (Jota, Nunez, Carvalho, Diaz) but the midfield has been massively neglected.

The squad needs to be refreshed, for sure. We have invested well in attack, with Luis Diaz, Jota and Darwin. I think that area of the pitch is being well looked-after. Gomez and TAA, both young players who looked like they’d be stalwarts for a decade or more, have become brain-fart central, Fabinho has regressed and Konate is constantly injured. Alisson continues to prove why he’s the best, for the moment we have no reason to be concerned there.
It’s a combination of injuries, exhaustion, naïveté and a lack of investment. Our dudes are being pushed to the brink, with injuries severely limiting our potential for rest and rotation.
The number one thing, though, is lack of incoming players in midfield. We have too many players who can’t get match fit, between Keita, Ox, Fabinho (who has been out a lot), Jones, Thiago and Henderson. The only one who has had a proper run of games recently is Elliott… the youngest and most raw of the lot 😒
I know this is the moment where we look for someone or something to blame, but I don’t think there is any one thing that has had enough weight to it to affected it greatly. Feels like unfortunate turns of events in multiple areas.

There is that whole lack of a club doctor, though, which given that a lot of our problems are fitness-based, seems too logical to be pure coincidence.
I've always been a fan of Curtis Jones myself. Thought he would be a "top, top player." Does feel like he's fallen off by the wayside though.
I think there's been a few moments prior to this where it looked like the Klopp cycle was about to happen and he was just going to explode but he's been able to get them back to their best. This continued mediocrity makes it seem like this season is more or less written off, but you can't count them out in the CL even if they're struggling in the PL.
A couple decent buys in January and they'll probably be able to get back on the right track.

Gonna re-post Vini's response from the last thread for anyone curious about the situation re Lula and his imprisonment previously. Thanks for the information, Vini:
I'm gonna try to summerize it. The car wash operation accused Lula, his allies and his party of a lot of stuff (bribes,
overpricing, robbery, etc). The Judge of the operation was called Sergio Moro. Bolsonaro pretty much won the election in 2018 because of the repercussions of the operation (Lula was in jail and couldnt compete, his suplent didnt manage to defeat Bolsonaro). Lula and the works party (PT) were in the mud, reputation destroyed. Then, 1 month after Bolsonaros election, Sergio Moro accepts Bolsonaros invite to become minister of justice. He stays there for a little over a year and leaves the government saying that Bolsonaro wouldnt allow him to do his job and that he wasnt fullfiling his words about giving Moro all the power and independency at his office. They both went out on very bad terms, talking shit to each other.
Bolsonaro then had a horrible post pandemic administration of the country. Moro was thinking about going for the Presidence in 2022 but gave up and went for a Senator spot instead, which he managed to get elected.
Meanwhile, Lula got cleared of pretty much every single accusation from the car wash. I doubt he's a saint, but he was the ONLY man in the country capable of defeating Bolsonaro, which we can se it was true, he barely did it.
Moro got closer to Bolsonaro as well for the 2nd round of the election. He hates Lula with a passion.
Lets see what Lulinha will do.
Most commentators don't add anything insightful to what you're watching. Peter Drury and Ray Hudson are especially bad and actively make me want to turn off the TV.
I love Ray Hudson I wish they’d get him on the EPL
Drury is solid

Ray Hudson is great. Anyone who doesn’t like him clearly doesn’t like football as it should be played.
Ray Hudson is fucking dreadful and anyone who likes him probably supports multiple teams, against the spirit of the game.
Ez this.

Ray Hudson Newcastle Legend. Makes for a good Youtube compilation, but the metaphor-heavy commentary feels really forced. Haven't listened to him commentate on an actual full game for a long time though, so can't really say how it is now.

As I don’t need to find streams these days, I haven’t listened to him in years. But I always thought he was an actually good commentator. Good analysis of games.

I enjoy Ray waxing poetic about Messi. That's about all he's stood out for in the past 5-10 years since he was on BeIn Sports for awhile which over time got removed from most cable providers.
I like Peter Drury -- he just took over as the lead commentator for NBC this season.

Just seen that our boys won 1-0 against Frankfurt in the Youth League and finished top of the group.
At the stadium right now, 10 minutes until the doors open.
My smart watch says that my heartbeat is at 111, a clear indication of how nervous I am.
Left home 10 hours ago, took two planes, had to go through all 4 metro lines in Lisbon to get to the hostel and then here.
Still feels a bit surreal that I am a few meters away from watching a Champions League match.

how much did you pay for a ticket?
By bud Go To Posthow much did you pay for a ticket?30€, it's pretty much at the top of the stadium and it was a member's ticket. I'm already in as I was a bit nervous since I bought it off one guy online but I had no problem.
It's far but the view seems good.
