They got my nephew a trainer, I haven't seen him yet but he's apparently some 6'8" former overseas pro. They also put him in two different after school leagues for when his season ends, and he also trains with me still. Plus they're putting him and his brother in camp this summer. I told him he still has to play some other sports, too early to just focus on basketball so he plays flag football in the fall, and will probably do track spring 2024.
I got his summer nights planned out, no AAU this summer. He's gonna do drills and for his 5 v 5 action he's gonna come with me to play 5s against men, he's my PG all summer (he's 5'6"). If you can play against grown men, the 7th graders should be no problem.

By Sho_Nuff82 Go To PostPaul , Westbrook, and Crowder are washed, the 2029 picks cancel out, DFS and Dinwiddie are serviceable players. 💁🏾♂️
But I'm still glad Lebron finally didn't get his way.
Gotta respect the pettiness.

Let the kid be a kid. Good call on sport diversification.

By DiPro Go To PostKD left a dynasty to team up with Kyrie and then Harden and now he's stuck with Ben Simmons.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Simmons and some picks went to Toronto and we got OG/Trent or Siakam in return.

How so?
By n8 dogg Go To PostHe’s 6ft10, can pass, won’t shoot. He’s Scottie Barnes evolved.Barnes takes 3 3s a game.. Gotta to at least keep people honest.
By DiPro Go To Posti think the sport will survive the 10 games they will play together.3rd-eye Luka is going to be amazing

He wants to focus only on basketball but I had to explain to him most really good kids play other sports as well. We got a few standing offers for him to join AAU teams from opposing coaches and 1 from a family friend, but that's too much travel for him at such a young age. He can get the same "playing up" type of experience once or twice a week from going with me to the gym/park and playing men, plus at his size they'd probably want to play him the big man spot.
"Dallas Mavericks trade for Kyrie Irving"
ESPN: "Lebron, tell us how you feel about the Kyrie to Dallas trade?"
This is wild, man. ESPN going out of their way to pull the Lakers and Lebron into this for their coverage.

Would be thinking there’s some mad move for Siakam
edit: flipping Dinwiddie for FVV is the talk. Not sure about that.
By n8 dogg Go To PostlmaoI wouldn’t even trade him for one of the rats around MSG

SHOOK Simmons will try to trick another team into getting the max after his deal is done
Once that fails he’ll retire

By blackace Go To PostMavs should have just paid Brunson tho 😂I didn't exactly follow that whole thing but wasn't it that because he was picked in the second round it made it strange and they offered him the most they could have?
By diehard Go To PostI didn't exactly follow that whole thing but wasn't it that because he was picked in the second round it made it strange and they offered him the most they could have?
They didn't offer him the 55m max after he sucked against the Clippers in the playoffs.
They later offered it a few months later when he played good during the season but Brunson didn't take it because he knew he would get more from them or another team as a free agent and he was right.
yeah, the second round pick thing put them in a weird spot his contract year - but im pretty sure they could've offered him a smaller contract the year prior and it would've gotten around all of that.
especially considering Brunson had effectively won the job off DSJ

By blackace Go To PostWhen he was a FA they could have offered him anything, like any other team, right?definitely not 'anything'. there was a cap there in that year prior
mavs set themselves up to be potentially outbid if brunson raised his value to a certain point
Brunson looked lost against the Clippers and he was already 25 at that point. Hindsight is 20/20 but people weren't surprised they didn't offer 55m for him right after the series. Once he started to cook last season and Knicks prepared for him it was already over.
It was the way Donnie Nelson did the contracts. He somehow structured it where they didn't have him as an RFA. It was stupid.
As for offering him whatever, it seems Brunson was set on NY no matter what. Dude talking about how he grew up dreaming to play for the Knicks and posted pictures of himself wearing Knicks gear as a 4 year old or something. I think if the Mavs offered the same amount, he would have went to NY still.

From a lot of the stuff I saw at the time, it seemed to be a self-imposed cap but I could be reading it wrong.

yeah it was definitely something weird.
i think the worst part about it all was that Brunson had already won the job despite the issues with Carlisle.

Yeah, but at some point, it seemed like he was just set on NY anyways. Unless the Mavs offered the absolute max (which they would then get clowned on for I'm sure) I don't think there was any way he was going to stay.
Either way, it was multiple failures, which first started with the stupid contract Donnie Nelson gave him. People will keep bringing it up, but the dude was booty against the Clippers, starting going crazy when the Mavs started doing well around Christmas, which then it was too late to offer him the extension since he was going to bet on himself.
