By Oddinho Go To PostI see, I figured you weren’t just insinuating that less than half-way through the season, Arsenal are better than Liverpool’s yearly CL/PL challengers. Because that would be silly!I mean this season we have been better though? I'm not saying this suddenly makes us the best team in the country but the idea that we keep getting written off as though we haven't played anyone good so far is laughable. The post I was quoting was saying we hadn't had games as tough as Liverpool or City yet which I think it a load of shit because we've beaten teams both of them have dropped points to and we've won our two games against sides that finished in the top four last season.
By NiceGuy Go To PostAnyone who thinks that wasn't obviously a foul on Fabinho is a tit.falta clara D'Souza.
By Vini.lad Go To PostFair point but then clubs spend more and cant get even close to then. It facilitates but it's not a certain to perform splashing money.
It’s not the point. Liverpool have been incredibly successful the last 5 years or so but they have needed everything to go right. They have needed their recruitment to be spot on, they have needed Klopp to come in and get them to a place they could spend the money on VVD, Alisson et al. They have needed injuries to go their way (we saw what happened when they had injuries, they had Nat Phillips starting all season). They need to conform to a wage structure.
City don’t have that risk. If their defenders get injured, they go out and get Akanji. They sign Haaland and give him bonuses that triple his salary. They win titles with Pellegrini. They do not need everything to go right for them because a season out of the CL would not haemorrhage their finances the way it would other clubs.
By Xpike Go To Postcity got unlimited funds and the best manager in the world and they still cant do what arsenal didThat's not true. You both lost Champions League finals.
Thanks, Liverpool!
4 points clear with 28 games to go, Arsenal gonna do it and I will cry happy tears
They won't and I will cry sad tears instead

By n8 dogg Go To PostWho do you think is going up?
Burnley and Sheff Utd seem to have a bit more quality than most from what I’ve seen.
Reading doing surprisingly well under Ince.
The only two teams that have impressed me so far are Norwich and (for a half) Swansea. We've played 6 of the top 10 and they are the only 2 who I thought were legit better than us. We do play Blackburn and Burnley this week though so my opinion will probably change soon.
Watford under Bilic will do better than they did under Edwards though so I expected by the time the WC starts they will be top four.
Had a proper look at Halland's foul on Fabinho and tbh it's far too soft to have been awarded by VAR.

Two decades ago we didn’t have clubs owned by slavers ruining the competitive nation of the league.
Better on the metric of going unbeaten.
That’s it.
What a wank metric to gauge the quality of a team.
Must be sad to have so little success to actually celebrate.

I think Arsenal’s unbeaten season will live longer in the memory than any of Pep’s title wins.
Leicester 15/16, City 11/12, United 98/99 and Arsenal 03/04 the most memorable.

My point is only on the sporting sense. The way they got into this level is shady and yeah, everything you said I agree with you.
Lets put it this way. What Guardiola is doing it for a long time now is much more impressive than what Arsene did if you put into perspective the level of the competition both teams have. City have/had Klopps side to beat, Abramovichs Chelsea to beat, a massive spender United to beat, a champions league finalist Tottenham to beat.
Arsenal had almost no compeittion in 03/04. Chelsea were on their first Abramovich season, Tottenham were midtable, United struggling, City a second division side, Liverpool mediocre.
Putting the pros and cons on the scale, I feel that City's 100 points season much much impressive than our invincible sason.
Arsenal are CL next season. No doubt about it.
Newcastle will be playing European football next season as well.

It really hasn't been any achievement at all to finish above Man Utd since 2013.
Even in their second place finishes they've been pretty low points totals iirc

United have had better teams, Chelsea have imo, City & Liverpool.

I just don’t see it as impressive because of the way they have put together a side capable of 100 points. Still means they need to get their recruitment right, with some smart planning to get everything to a place Pep can do it. I just don’t see it as that impressive in context of their resources.
In that 100 point season, they beat a perfunctory Mou United side, a Chelsea side in turmoil after Conte’s second season, a Pool side still building… plus, the rest of the PL was not very good outside of an exciting Spurs side and the aforementioned. Burnley came 7th with 54 points. Eleven teams got no more than 44 points.
I found last season more impressive. Liverpool were better, Chelsea were better, the middle of the PL was better.

The other two were woeful though. Think he'll prove to be very useful in stretched games at least, but he needs a shitload of training. Worry for me is that I'm not sure you can train composure to the extent that he needs.

On current level of the premier league it's an incredible achievement. Back then, not so much.
By WoodenLung Go To PostTo have been awarded by var? If it's a foul in the build up, it's a foul. It's dumb when VAR judges fouls harshly during buildup, but when it's on the box they are too scared to change the on field decision. If the foul wasn't given it's because the ref judged it already in both instances innit.
It's as stupid as the handball rule when a handball during buildup can't get a goal called off, but the same handlball by the goalscorer can.

It is a great achievement but it's massively overrated. I said this once and I'll say it again: I'd trade in a heart beat a defeat in that season to not have gotten eliminated by Chelsea in the quarters of the UCL and eventually becoming european champions that season.
