Could only watch the final 15 minutes of yesterday's game, but watched it all today. The progress this United side has made since their opening losses is outstanding.
De Gea, who couldn't and wouldn't sweep or make short passes, is now doing it every game. We know how to play possession based football and now look adept in playing through a low block. In Martinez and Eriksen we've two players so comfortable on the ball and capable of making those progressive passes that break defensive lines and puts our attackers in good areas.
We've adapted our man to man pressing system to one that now pressures the opposition, but also boxes them out of making passes to others. We're pretty good at generating turnovers high up the pitch. We have a defensive midfielder that can now shield defence and also make good passes. This is the sort of modern football I've wanted us to adopt since the Mourinho era.
Of course there is still significant improvements that need to be made. We need another midfielder that's comfortable on the ball as Eriksen can't do it alone. Casemiro is a better passer than I first thought, but can be clumsy in possession at times. We also need an actual number 9. Rashford has deputised well for Martial and he has improved so much on his displays from last season. Makes good runs and can create chances for himself and others. But he just isn't a natural goalsscorer. Put him on the wing as an inside forward where he'll thrive.
I'm all in on Ten Hag now. His training methods have improved our players a lot and his signings have added even greater quality. Give him the money needed for a quality striker and midfielder.
