England made the comeback but it's starting to look like Southgate is a lame duck. A lot of international management is about creating a good atmosphere in camp; identifying leaders; making yourself solid in defence and letting your players get on with it. He's been very successful on the basis of those criteria.
That approach has worked because international football just isn't as high a standard as top level club football. Top level club coaches didn't want international jobs due to lack of access to players. But the last 3/4 years has seen Mancini and Luis Enrique take over their national sides and we're now seeing what a top level coach can do in international football. Both have achieved more or just as much as Southgate despite having weaker squads on paper.
Southgate just doesn't have the coaching skills.

Pickford over Pope, Mount over Foden and Walker over Maguire and that should be our starting XI for the WC.

if only Marc from gaf was here. as a fan of ENGLAND he would have loved that comeback, and would have been the one person other than me in here, to mourn the queen.

I mean even this match was a microcosm of that. Was playing well and then his head suddenly went. Think he needs a bit of time away with a two month "injury", but that's not happening with the WC around the corner.
Just saw the second half. Gave away a pen and gave up the ball unnecessarily through marauding heroics that led to Havertz' first. It must be pretty demoralising to be an England CB and see the guy ahead of you fuck up time and again and retain his spot.

Just won 16 - 15 penalty shootout on FM. Had to take the decisive penalty each time. My heart couldn't take it.
