By Shanks D Zoro Go To PostIt has been easy to joke about him all summer, but it is clear you just can’t be that small and a decent defender at this level.Welbeck BULLIED him
He just can’t defend anyone taller than him in the box, he will get destroyed against better sides.
Would probably have worked better with Martinez in midfield and McTom as centre back smh
Rashford missed two sitters. Jadon did nothing. But it’s exactly what you’d expect because it was basically the same team as least year and Rangnick was right about them.
By n8 dogg Go To PostThought Eriksen was mega bad today btw. Couldn’t handle the press.Looked much better deeper imo. He was spreading the ball well and was much better as the transition from defence to attack. Bruno on the other hand was awful.
McTominay put in an all time bad performance today. Ruined so many opportunities through terrible passing, unnecessary flicks and poor control.
In defence he was constantly out of position and allowed so many Brighton attacks through the middle.

E10H miscalculated re:Mcfred.
Its going to take some time to fix the problems.
When the pressure is on, a lot of these crumble.

I cant believe how bad rashford, bruno and Sancho were. And then McTom and Fred were even worse. De gea was fine, Ronaldo too, the rest were either bad or terrible
By n8 dogg Go To PostNot at all surprised by that result. Brighton are supremely well coached and have players who have been bought for a particular system. Too many today - De Gea, Shaw, McTominay and Bruno in particular - who looked incapable of doing what they needed to do.Incredible that you posted the same thing.
It’s one game, I won’t overreact. Pep lost his first with Barcelona, brothers #believe. But we need some midfielders fucking sharpish.

i can. Rashford and Bruno have been shit for time. and Sancho aint cut out for this league.

Oh yeah, I should have qualified first half. He was good in the second.
Ten Hag is pretty clear that it's FDJ or nobody.
But we can't go through the season with McTominay starting. He's the worst player I've ever seen start at United.

McTom man
When have you seen a midfielder take so many bad touches. So many bad dribbles. And so many bad decisions.
It's so rare for him to just take 2 touches like a normal cm should. Control with first touch, pass to the next player with the next touch.
Get the ball to the good players. Don't try and create/dribble yourself when you aren't that guy.
Infuriating

Yeah let’s buy a player who wasn’t good enough for Stoke 8 years ago. Also isn’t he a racist or some shit.
This is spot on too. Play to the players strengths. I've been done with Dalot for ages yet looks like we still have to stick with him for now.
double pivot is probably the most annoying modern bollocks to infilitrate the footballing nomenclature in a long time.

10 Hack said he wouldn't buy players just for the sake of it. He wants De Jong and no one else and fairplay to him, he knows exactly what player can fit in his system and what players can't.
Fwiw our few moments of attacking quality occurred when Sancho was on the ball. But he just wasn't involved enough over the 90 minutes.
Whether that's through us not getting it to him, or him not showing enough for it idk.

Problems all over the pitch. ETH trying to make a statement by benching Ronaldo, but we were all out of sorts structurally. No end product from out wide, and even with two 10s, no creativity to break down Brighton. I dunno what our CB situation is, but I'd rather Martinez/VDB be thrown into midfield than watch another season of McFred.
New manager, and ownership have set him up to fail culturally and tactically by not giving him the starting quality he needs in midfield, or attacking depth.

I still remember Rodgers first PL game for Liverpool was a bad defeat to West Brom, after a summer chasing some average signings that happened to have played for him beforehand.
It only took a couple of good signings for that team to finish 2nd the next year, even if it did implode after that.

Does Ten Hag know that he’s allowed to sign players apart from those he’s worked with before? Is he really that disconnected from the wider world of football that he can’t come up with alternatives?

if that's the case ETH is a moron. FDJ is sure to pick up some muscle injuries acclimating to brexit ball then we are back at square one.
By Cleff Go To PostTen Hag is pretty clear that it's FDJ or nobody.
that's odd.
i can understand wanting to work with someone you've worked with before, but it's not like de jong is a proven, world-class player.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostUnited hiring another devoted footballing ideologue again was always a bad ideaAn idealogie is exactly what we need. We finally have a detail-focused manager who has a pattern of play and can drill players, he's only trained them for 5 weeks.

Someone go look at Pep’s first season at City, please. Or Klopp’s at Liverpool’s. Or, as sohois says, Rodgers’.
One game and already everyone is doom mongering. We knew before a game against Brighton that McTominay and Fred weren’t a good enough pairing, that our lack of depth up front would be and issue and that our full backs and keeper aren’t progressive enough. We know after a game against Brighton that McTominay and Fred weren’t a good enough pairing, that our lack of depth up front would be and issue and that our full backs and keeper aren’t progressive enough.
Give Tom Hanks time, get him a signing or two more, and work on building culture. I’d take another sixth place if it meant we build towards his ideology.

I think a manager who can get the best of the current crop and tailor his play to them is a better answer for United, due to the fact that the club doesn't seem to be backing Ten Hag at all. Your squad is worse than last season's. "FDJ or no one" can't be a real mentality.
The problem is the personnel, always has been.
Personally think the problem was that we did none of the things that looked good pre-season:
No organised intense press, no positional structures allowing ball control, none of the set attacking structures. We just free-balled it and wondered why we were getting trounced. I do however think part of that was making Eriksen a false 9. It was too positionally diorganised and we got eaten alive in the transition.
Throw a few poor decisions under pressure and yeah that's a pretty good recipe for losing a football match against Brighton.
It would help next time if the players did what they were coached to do rather than reverting to their own inept ideas of how football should be played, and I don't think that's asking too much.
