I gave up on the idea of a smart, cohesive transfer window about three weeks into it.
Someone like Casemiro might give Ten Hag a fighting chance this season, even if he has to integrate his methods a bit slower and more pragmatically than he would have liked.
It's not perfect, but it should hopefully stabilise the freefall.

The Casemiro thing is whatever.
This team is beyond saving and this is just another ill advised buy with no vision behind it. This is beyond papering over the cracks, this is buying an ice sculpture to put in the living room when the house is on fire.

We're still looking to sign another midfielder according to Jason Burt. If that is someone adept at progressing the ball from deep then we've potentially had a good window. Unplanned and slapdash as it has been.
If Casemiro is the only addition, we still have the problem with building attacks from midfield, but potentially with defence as well. He's a great player, but statistically not that good at pressing. Just doesn't attempt them too often. That doesn't adhere to the style Ten Hag attempted to drill into the side. But then again, the players threw that out the window after 10 minutes of the opening fixture. I'm sure ETH can adept his methods a bit.
He's good at duels and covering his fullbacks however. So hopefully that's Shaw and Dalot accounted for.

Needs to be Casemiro plus another in midfield to feel particularly optimistic. Although sounds like we're moving on to a forward (presume Anthony?) next.

Up to like ep 5 and Arteta comes off really well in terms of personality and his relationship with most players. Tactically there is barely anything to judge him for, so the games themselves are a better barometer (he's very limited). And as far as his motivational speeches goes, it just looks like he's going down a constructivist course book or something.
Hey if it works, and it has better odds of doing that with a younger squad, then more power to him. Like I said, at least he comes off as an honest guy that's trying to communicate, not ghosting players or being double face like Mou. That's of course, just what the editing makes it look like tho.

Casemiro could be great signing, at least in the short term.
Think the United fans are right though - it's an unplanned, nightclub at the end of the night, desperation signing. Drop a bag of money at the door and see who sniffs. From Antony to Arnautovic. De Jong to Casemiro.

Well, if you want to be devious you can say: it is slightly higher salary, but also for 2 more years which he isn't getting at Madrid. So essentially we are doubling the value of his contract.
And no one makes their legends walk the plank better than flo and Madrid, so it can also be a case of leave before they kick you out. They just bought 2 young players that can get his spot no problem.

Accept this truth and enjoy life.
So Tierney picked up an injury last season and didn't mention it to the staff and kept playing. No wonder we made getting a LB a new priority, I really like him but that's was really dumb from him.

It's awful but you can't rely on players who can't stay fit.
Slightly related but one of the things that angers me most is in big pressure games where a player is obviously injured and can't pull his weight and yet refuses to come off or signal to the bench. #GrindsMyGears

Didn't Mourinho on multiple occasions attack players for not being fit :lol.

Yeah which is why I took so much umbrage with it at the time. It's a fundamentally stupid stance.

It's awful but you can't rely on players who can't stay fit. It's not really about him not being able to stay fit but the reason he got injured getting out of the shower is that he didn't mention he got an injury 5 games ago so never got any rest or treatment for it which just made it worse and then he was out for the rest of the season. If he'd mentioned it sooner he'd probably been out a few games tops.
Just got to the United game and the narrator referred to them as "fellow Champions League contenders".

I still think we shouldn't be looking at making signings other than another midfielder. Options there are still so poor, even with Casemiro.

He's not saying Casemiro is poor I don't think.

I wouldn't be suprised if most of it is just agents stirring things up because they know United are desperate for players.
I think teenagers going on FIFA and sorting via overall rating and filtering for 20-25 years age range would do a vastly better job than we have.
I would say a good 60% of it is that. It's nearing the end of the window, United have money (and are easily led) and also players are starting to work out whether they'll be starting this season ahead of the WC.

By Laboured Go To PostHe's not saying Casemiro is poor I don't think.Overall, even with the addition of Casemiro, our midfield options aren't great. I like Fred, but he's a presser and someone who contributes more further up the pitch. Scott McTominay is just awful.
That's really just one good player when we need at least three.
