By Willkiller Go To PostArteta seems to know his stuff tactically, and the players seem tto like him. I can see why he's very personable.
These team talks though…christ what a gimp, the heart and the brain drawing was bad. But this "Ederson created the lightbulb" speech with him pulling out a fucking extension cable. Plonker.
I wonder watching this a) how much of the tactical stuff they’re actually allowed to show and b) how much these team talks have an effect given they all end with ‘go out there and play with fucking balls let’s go lads’. Wonder if footballers run more on emotion/passion than anything and therefore the routine doesn’t matter.
I always think when these docs are on - what a mad fucking job. Being an adult and having another adult tell you that you were shit when you lose. Imagine if this happened in most jobs lol.
That cheeseboard story from the MA era I mentioned the other day...
Different styles of management I guess. I mean there is very little substance in these things in any aspect, never mind tactical. You get flashes of it but yeah they barely show anything. Those final 'rousing' statements are literally just before they walk out I guess.

The Last Chance U docs are great for this. Teams go in losing at half time, the coach smashes a few things, screams at them for 15 minutes and they're back out there completely transformed.

I think they even mention in one of the early episodes they usually have two team talks, one an hour (or more) before kick off that is much more tactical and in depth and then the one before kick off which is just to gee them up.

Makes sense tbh, if players haven't somehow had the tactics drilled into them from a week of training then telling them again just before kick off isn't going to do much good anyway.
The most they get into it in the documentary on tactics is when they show snippets or the team meetings at London Colney or when they drag one player into that viewing room and show them clips of their previous match and tell them what went wrong.
By Cleff Go To PostH-how much?
Jesus, that'll take them up to £150m for the summer
Insane for a new player in the league that only started in February. United should have been absolutely all over him.
Can legit only remember Gibbs White playing particularly well in one game, and that might have been his debut a few years ago
Then again, I barely watched any full Wolves games last year.
edit:huh, he played quite a lot when he broke through but has made most of his appearances recently in the Championship

That fee for Gibbs-White is absolutely insane for any team, let alone for a newly promoted one. Wow.
Last Chance U is the goat sports documentary. All of it is sublime. Season 2 of the basketball edition has to be coming soon.. not sure how interesting Cheer (Gregg Whiteley's other show) would be for a UK audience, but that is good as well. One of the guys from season 1 ended up being a pedophile though which was addressed directly in season 2 but is kind of handled slightly clumsily since they'd filmed it all basically before it came out so the dude is just there in the background for a lot of shots.

Oof, Tecatito will miss the World Cup.
Mexico and Sevilla FC winger Jesús “Tecatito” Corona broke his left fibula and ruptured his ankle ligaments at Thursday’s practice, the club announced. He will be out for around four to five months, taking him out of the World Cup picture for the Mexican men’s national team.
Corona was taken to a hospital and immediately underwent tests after the incident. He will have surgery on Thursday afternoon, Sevilla said.

Guys, I found out the true reason why United and Liverpool are having such a bad start of the season.

Updating my recent post:
Roma are interested in Manchester United's Casemiro. However, they do not want to pay the £6m fee and would prefer a loan with no obligation to purchase the player. United need Casemiro's wages off their books as they continue their pursuit of Ajax's Mohammed Kudus.
The club are unwilling to meet the Dutch champions' €45m asking price, but remain hopeful that a deal can be struck after Fred's free transfer to Corinthians is finalised. The former Brazilian international is set to be excluded from this weekend's game against relegation rivals Everton, while United captain Scott McTominay is set to return following his three-match suspension.

I was hoping they gave him some assurances the club wouldn’t be as much of a fucking shitshow and that Woodward/Judge out, Arnold/Murtough in would lead to some joined up thinking. Apparently not.
Sad to see Casemiro go, but its a good deal for the club, he’s getting wages x2 and a new challenge, plus our mid is more than covered. Sad but its good business on the Madrid side.
But does this move actually address United’s problems? Seems like a desperate grab.

But we need to renew Kroos at all costs.

Well he'd have spoken to the club a ton leading up to the job offer, if he was willing to believe the upper management after the last decade...well that's on him.

Always been stunned by his move into football, he could barely put two meaningful words together during his F1 days.

Man Utd, on paper, are going to have a very good DM. That's pretty huge for them, that's been a huge weakness for a long time.
How motivated will Casemiro be to put everything into playing for them....I think that's the question.
Casemiro seems like a good signing. Not sure I believe the wage thing though if only because I don't really believe he would have been making that "little" for Madrid since Kroos is making more than double that. I feel like this is probably typical inflation by the Spanish press to claim he's doubling it. Either way, if Utd are offering supposedly ~£350k a week or more at his age, no wonder he'd jump at it.
I agree with Dan in the Whatsapp chat: we could have spent another 50m on the transfer fee and got Rice for cheaper wages and with more potential. It’s a shortsighted buy. The guy is 30. He’s used to a style of play that Ten Hag absolutely does not preach. He’s used to playing alongside Kroos and Modric, not Fred and Fernandes. He is a very good player who, like all players when they come to us, will suffer because of the lack of structure or thought around him.

13 days before the end of the transfer window? I doubt that
Rice is very good and I mean no disrespect, but I honestly think he might view Utd as a very lateral move at this point. He's going to want to move to Chelsea or City in the future most likely as they more or less guarantee more success. Even if Utd would pay enough to get West Ham to actually take the offer, I'm not sure he'd necessarily jump at it. There's obviously a huge need for another midfielder and Casemiro is probably about as good as you guys can get so I think this makes a ton of sense even at his age.
City bought Fernandinho at 28 and he obviously played at a very high level for awhile. I think Utd could get a solid 4-5 years out of Casemiro.

If West Ham turned down 110/120m for Rice then with allah as my witness I would crush them under my heel
