Plum is like a level quicker with the ball in her hands than anyone else in the WNBA. Just so smooth and fast.
By Sho_Nuff82 Go To PostIn that thread someone posted a video of the first time Dominique debuted the Eurostep after learning it abroad, got called a travel for an absolutely clean 2-step move. :/
NBA refs forever trash, that was fine
By Old King Rob Go To Postit's probably cheaper to just buy a VPN and then a single team league pass membership
I paid about US$50 for my international NBA league pass last year through a VPN via South Africa, it's absolutely cheaper plus you get everything and no blackouts.

I think ownership needs to think this through.
By blackace Go To Postgood, fuck da lakers.
19 down to 13 isn't even that much
There's also the issue that players back then played more minutes which is adding so much more wear and tear. I went back to a random year (2003-04) there were 8 players that averaged 40mpg or more. You have to go back a decade to 2011-12 where Luol Deng averaged just over 39 mpg. Most league leaders are in the 37-38mpg mark. 4 players averaged 36mpg or more last season, 5 if you round up Tatum's 35.9. In 03-04 you had 47 players average that amount.
but then I type all this and it pops into my head that the pace was slower back then.
Plus, now because of how much money is in basketball you have kids playing all year round from like the age of 12 trying to go pro. It's not NBA intensive but it's still wear and tear on your body, especially since we're reckless when we're younger and don't know how to take care of our bodies.

There's all of that and the fact that the newer generation of athletes is so focused on being singular in their choice of sport that they are more likely to suffer from repetitive stress injuries if they do make it into the pros because of said wear-and-tear. Rather than the older generation that was multi-disciplined in football, soccer, baseball, et al.
Not that imo kids should be playing American football, but you get the idea lol.

Not just kids, no one should be playing American failball.
Yea wtf is with this cheaping out shit when TV contracts are OD right now.
If that's the lesson you took from COVID era broadcasts...

I'm super confused how much money a team will spend on something like trading for a second round pick that has a very very small chance of bringing fans a better product yet cheap on out something like that.
It's also screwing over the more blue collar workers that work the camera and trucks since they presumably won't get paid for those games
I always thought they had team announcers travel with the team/players
Should just do Covid style calling the game from home, it’s delayed though

One thing to keep in mind is that the announcers and crew are employed by the broadcasters, not the team itself. The team has power to yell at them to spend the fucking money, but not necessarily the final say.
Some MLB teams tried this at the beginning of this season, and with the exception of the Blue Jays who can't for government reasons, all the baseball teams ended up caving and sending announcers and crews to road games again. Having delayed reactions and announcers not knowing if a ball is fair or foul, for instance, was awful and the teams got rightfully dragged for it. Hopefully the Blazers change their mind here.
So they won’t have their crew so basically there will be one camera angle the whole time and no replays? I guess unless they tap into the home teams feed. I can’t remember what it was like outside of the clearly delayed and muted reactions

I can’t remember what it was like outside of the clearly delayed and muted reactionsThe way it worked this year in baseball was that the home team would send their raw production feed to the road team, who would then just overlay their specific score bugs and such over it. This basically meant they were at the mercy of the camera angles and replays that the home team would show. Not only was it delayed, you'd see replays and things you didn't want to see.

By Kibner Go To PostOh wow. That makes this even more unexpected to me. The team absolutely has enough money to pay all these people to send them out on the road.It adds a lot to the frustration because the entire broadcast is produced in-house so the TV rights agreements they sign where not everyone gets to see the game is madness. The broadcast does nothing besides hit play. It's why at one point we actually offered a paid streaming site for those outside the tv broadcast area in Oregon. They can easily do it again and bypass it all.
Even the UI/motion graphics for the broadcast are produced in-house because I know exactly who designed it.
It's dumb.
They killed the streaming project (launched 2010, way ahead of its time) because they promised to resolve the broadcast rights issues with Comcast. They never did and are on their second provider now and nearly a decade since they killed it those without access to said provider have less choice now than back then.
Which is why I actually support people watching illegal streams. The league and teams actively try to fuck you over.

"L.A. has nonetheless pledged to James that it will indeed continue to aggressively pursue upgrades. League sources say James, in fact, has been assured that the Lakers are willing to trade both of their available future first-round picks in 2027 and 2029 if a trade that costs them both picks can realistically position the Lakers to return to contender status."Lol
By Old King Rob Go To PostTwo firsts for a healthy power forward that can play 38mpg every nightShit I'll just take one.
