By reilo Go To PostSign and trades are so hyper rare, to begin withWhat? No they're not, what's rare is a player making it to free agency as a UFA (this usually only happens with breakout 2nd round picks like Brunson). But if they do make it to free agency and end up on another team it's almost always via a sign and trade.
Plus the Knicks don't even have to work with Dallas they could use the same assets to dump 2 of Rose Noel Burks and just sign him outright. I was just trying to be nice...
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostMavs need a two way center but tbh there aren't many around these days.A double sign and trade of Brunson for Mitchell Robinson would be interesting but I don't know how that would/could work with the salaries.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostMavs need a two way center but tbh there aren't many around these days.I can't think of a time where they were common. Even in the big man glory days of the late 80s and early 90s, there were just a handful of them and then a bunch of stiffs to try to slow them down.
Phase by two way do you mean can catch lobs and offensive rebound? Cause if not those guys get paid 20 mill plus and the Mavs have that money earmarked for Davis Bertans...

There's like 1, maybe 2, sign and trades per off-season, and none as recently as 2018.
Yes but in the situation that Brunson is currently in they are not rare at all, the situation is what's rare. Even if he doesn't go to the Knicks if Brunson is not on the Mavs next season it's going to be because a sign and trade was done.
What's most likely going to happen is that Dallas signs Brunson and then trades him later. In exchange for something from the Knicks? There's no way Dallas would take a deal centered around Mitchell Robinson -- $1.8mil/yr -- and take on Fournier or Rose/Noel/Burks and other trash to fill out the contracts to match Brunson's $20-25mil/yr.
All of those Knicks guys have negative value these days and become much more difficult for Mavs to move over Brunson's single contract for a better package.

No the sign and trade would be for 2 of Rose, Noel, Burks (all useful players on expiring contracts with team options for a possible 2nd year) and draft compensation.

I said that double sign and trade would be interesting in response to Phaze saying the Mavs need a center and then said I didn't even know if it would be possible. Jfc is right...

Think Lowry was too
Don't think the Mavs let Brunson go. They've finally got a piece outside Luka that has value. Even if they want to trade him, they're going to want a genuine piece back.
The Mavs don't have a choice, they don't "have him" hes unrestricted. They could blow him away with a crazy contract (which would be dumb) but even then he could just leave.
Like if he wants to go to the Knicks the package they offer might not be enough for the Mavs in a normal trade but it would be enough to clear the cap space it would take to sign him outright. They'd have to take it at that point.

And this could be the most he's desired in his entire life. his one big contract where he makes $100m.
Has going all in on a guy who has had one playoff break out, ever really worked out well? Can't think of many.
The Mavs cap sheet is hell. They're gonna waste Lukas rookie extension years. They better hope he likes BBQ...
Brunson has a lot of ties to the Knicks and New York and the Knicks actually have a decent record of attracting non top tier free agents especially for a team thats never good. So we'll just have to wait and see...
edit: he should be suspended for as long as GP is out.

Because they always want to be seen as a FA destination so overpay for guys they shouldn't.
By giririsss Go To PostBecause they always want to be seen as a FA destination so overpay for guys they shouldn't.Eh many teams overpay guys. No I think the allure of New York and being "the guy" there plays a role, a bad Cavs team isn't signing a Marcus Morris for example. To be clear I think this is a bad thing for the Knicks. Since they're always able to cobble together the 20th best team in the league via free agency they rarely get to pick at the top of the draft. A bad small market team has no choice but to stay in that top 5 lottery range until they draft themselves out of it.
By reilo Go To PostGood. I'm actually surprised the league did it tbh
I don't think Brooks is true scumbag. The moment in his head probably got bigger than he realized, but you have to make guys hold suspensions over that kind of shit. Really big gap between recklessness and deliberate.
By DY_nasty Go To PostGood. I'm actually surprised the league did it tbhBasically. Think kerr said it? Dont think brooks is a dirty player, but that was a dirty play. Hopefully doesn't turn into a trend for him.

Calling it dirty depends on your definition of dirty. I think it was more reckless, dangerous, and under the circumstances completely unnecessary than “dirty.” The truth is Dillon is a moron, aggressive, and overestimates his abilities. All of which lead to the play
clubbing someone on the head (that damn sure wasnt a basketball play) in a vulnerable position like that is about as dirty as it gets. He is officially a dirty player to me now
If that happened to Ja y’all would be ready to file assault charges

I would want someone suspended for sure. Boo the shit out of him, would be at the top of my hate list and would be worried every time we played the team. I would be hesitant to label someone a dirty player. Especially if they had never been involved in something before. Really I think most players more reckless than dirty. Dirty I think of purposely trying to take someone out. Some people might have a different definition but I just have a hard time thinking there are many players in the nba that are actually dirty with malice maybe I am naive.
But really I have no time for someone to be lecturing from some moral high ground like Kerr did considering some of the shit I have seen Draymond do.

Players from the bench have never otherwise been on the floor during actual gameplay, we can all agree on this. Not once. Not even one damn time.
Except for every game that has ever been played.
