Ahahah, Braga down to 9. Iuri gets a yellow from a foul and screams to ref about a 1 inch from his face.
S
2nd yellow and he is off.

Doing a great job BUT did see an interesting tweet that puts this in perspective a bit
By FortuneFaded Go To PostWho would think Lyon would have a bigger wage budget than West Ham?
I think a lot of people equate Lyon with being a historically good side and therefore assume they’d be favourites over WHU.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostWho would think Lyon would have a bigger wage budget than West Ham?Very few people. The team with the biggest wage budget in Portugal (Benfica) is above Brighton.
Sporting is only above Norwich.

If Sporting played Brighton or Burnley or Palace, they’d be seen in the media as favourites based on reputation.

Something to be said for local / national talent funnels. Or the Bayern effect if you will.

By n8 dogg Go To PostIf Sporting played Brighton or Burnley or Palace, they’d be seen in the media as favourites based on reputation. And rightly so. We have a better team and play better than any of those clubs.
For example, Matheus Nunes apparently rejected the possibility of moving to Wolves despite going to earn much more because he sees it as a step down.
We have a very clear wage limit and the club has been fixed on that. João Mário left for Benfica because we said that we wouldn't pay what Benfica is paying him (almost 1M€ a year more than our best paid player).
Rúben Amorim said recently that there was no chance of Sarabia staying due to his wages, he is probably the best player in the league right now but the club is firm on it's limits and that's the way to go.
Rising wages has been a big issue for Portuguese clubs, Benfica spends almost double of what we do and it's true they went a round ahead of us in the Champions League and made a lot of money but they have no trophies to show and they probably won't have a guaranteed paycheck from the Champions League next season as they will need to go through two qualification rounds.
Even Porto apparently had to sell Diaz to help pay wages.
It's hard for other leagues to keep up with the Premier League, almost any team there gets more money from TV rights that most teams outside of the Top 5 get from the Champions League.
such financial responsibility from a club that has had two financial bailouts from banks with the taxpayer inheriting the bill.
'we have a clear wage limit'
tremendous stuff.

West Ham’s wage bill is more a reflection of the riches you get in the PL, rather than one reflective of player quality IMO. PL wages are inflated across the board.

By n8 dogg Go To PostDoing a great job BUT did see an interesting tweet that puts this in perspective a bitYeah that's why Manchester United is dominating Europe
There are outliers, but for the most part wage spend correlates to success. All we’ve heard for years is ‘Ole is shit, Maguire is shit, AWB is shit, Shaw is shit, Fred is shit’, and so on and so forth. Still finished in the CL positions last year.

LMAO
Benfica got over 60 million from Lisbon’s tax payers to build a stadium.
Oh I know, all these tens of millions owed to the bank? Just pay back the bank with the bank’s own money. There, done.
I can only assume they've accepted relegation and want to get in their preferred candidate soon. Perhap they're going to hire someone who plays attacking football
