By LFMartins86 Go To PostThat fucker Otávio actually scored.Didn't realize he had become a Portuguese citizen and was "good enough" to play for the national team. Kind of a weird career with being a squad player at Porto for so long.
By Xpike Go To Post2 CL winning goals is a footnote now?Lol, I was gonna say. And one of them is one of the greatest goals I’ve ever seen.
All you guys are saying is that in the debate of champions league final scorers, Bale is not a footnote.
And it sure as hell won’t be British football fanboys deciding who’s a footnote in Real Madrid’s history. Seems to me they don’t care about Bale in Madrid and will forget him as soon as he’s gone.

Was sad when he left Chelsea too, thought he was showing lots of great stuff there despite never playing consistently.
imo justice for aston villa

Think most people recognized Sturridge had exceptional talent. His short spell at Bolton basically had him as England's next big thing. But everyone also knew he was made of glass at the same time
Remember him scoring for Chelsea when he returned to them after his Bolton loan and he scored a ridiculous backheel against us. The cunt.

He appeared regularly for Chelsea and Bolton and in his first year and a half at Liverpool had one ankle injury that kept him out for a month. It's a bit of a myth that he was super injury prone all his career. Very probably wasn't Hodgson's fault either, it could have happened at any time. Still a cunt though

From the perspective of someone whose country is incredibly unsuccessful in team sports other than rugby, I don't think Italy's failure to qualify for the WC is as calamitous as is being made out. They won the European Championships just last year.
It's ok to say that that side peaked in 2021 and after that they couldn't regroup their performance. They've a fair amount of older players in the squad who can't be expected to raise their level all the time. In the last 15 years they've won a World Cup and a European Championship. That's something every single nation that plays football at the highest level would love to achieve.
The reigning European Champions not qualifying for the World Cup is funny. But the countries laughing the most are the ones who wished they had even a smidgen of Italy's success.

He had 18 months at Bolton/Chelsea where he wasn't constantly missing games and one season at Liverpool. He was super injury prone all of his career lol.
He came onto the scene quite late (21/22 at Bolton?), had that 18 months and then one solid season for Liverpool in terms of fitness. So by the time he was 25, he was very unreliable when it came to fitness.
So ok, for a quarter of his career, he wasn't injury prone.

this is beautiful.
Honestly though, this hurts 10 times more that four years ago.
Regardless of this result, Italy are still one of the very best European nations. Able to beat anyone on our day. As we did against world number 1 (lmao) Belgium back in October. Four years ago was a team that was poor with no direction whatsoever.
Nobody has been better than us in a single game performance except for Spain in the Nations League, and I would understand if people say the same about the Euros. In the games we drew, we were much better, and even in the loss last night.
Italy has a clear deficiency, and that is an absolute beast goalscorer. Just look all around world football the last ten years and top nations are constantly having their scoring records broken. Nobody has come close to breaking Riva's 35 that was set nearly 50 years ago.

This is certainly an interesting take. They won the Euros only 8 months ago, of course getting knocked out of the World Cup in a qualification play off (semi final no less) against Montenegro is a disaster.
If they’d made it to the play off final and got beaten by Portugal, I might agree a little more…but it would still be a disaster. If the tournaments were switched and they’d just won the WC and just got knocked out the Euros I’d say big fucking deal.
But the WC is the real deal. The Euros might have an overall higher standard across the whole competition but the World Cup is the absolutely premier football tournament. This is absolutely crushing and incredibly embarrassing.
And it’s beautiful.

In his first 6 seasons from then, he was averaging more than 30 appearances per season, with no record of regular injury absences. Probably most of his early appearances were as subs, but he still had to be available.

It shouldn't really be a surprise. Most players who we think of as injury prone probably had a good few early seasons before some random event just broke them. If you were injury prone right from the start you wouldn't make it as a professional
By Perfect Blue Go To PostSturridge and Suarez in 13/14 has to be the best strike partnership in the PL era.

You forgot Joe Allen. Liverpool fans like Hitch hyping him up every time he made a forward pass was a good time.

You seem to think he only had injury issues after his hip problem. And that is just not true.
And yeah, I can believe he had less injury problems at City where he averaged 40 minutes per (infrequent) appearance and barely more than that at Chelsea. That's not going to stress his body that much.
But when asked to play every week at Liverpool, from the start? *fart noise*
Gareth Bale has really gone for the throat of Marca. I don't think he's wrong either. Certain tabloid publications have gotten away with far too much when it comes to commenting on the lives of players.
