Lingard had his chance to go in the summer and didn't. Then started crying about it before the winter window started.
Let him rot in the reserves for all I care and move on with players that want to be here (and kick and bunch of them out as well).

By Willkiller Go To PostI do. He wants to be a DoF, he can't be telling players they can leave if the board has no intention of letting them leave. He has to be working in sync with them.I posted earlier that every United manager since Ferguson retired has been overruled by the Glazers. Mourinho was very publicly told we wouldn't be selling Pogba or Martial despite his wishes. Or signing Maguire for that matter. It's just something that happens at United. It's not right and by all rights the Glazers shouldn't be involved in any capacity with regards to how the football side is run. Every manager United appoints works under the framework that ultimately they are beholden to the whims of owners that know sweet fuck all about how to actually operate a successful football club.
There's also the fact he was obviously happy to let him go, but couldn't get the board to agree. He's the face of United now, and the whole point of him being there is to be a more senior figure at the very top level…his board have forced him to keep an unhappy player. It reflects very fucking poorly on him to me. Not personally, but in terms of his status as a figure of influence that will be, in theory, working above the next manager.

I'm aware of that. But no manager since Froggy has been brought in to move into a DoF position. That's the whole reason why Ragnick is there. And the whole point of United restructuring above the manager like that is to avoid those kinda of situations from happening, so for it to happen so publically in what is essentially his dress rehersal most certainly reflects badly on him.
If a manager has lost the locker room, they are done.
I truly believe that more than tactics, the reason why Sporting has been doing so well is because Amorim has completely united the locker room.
Pretty much every player of the squad says on interviews that this is the most united groups they ever been a part of.
Ristovski used to be the starter before Porro came in, he got into an argument with Rúben Amorim because Porro was staring ahead of him, was expelled from training with the team and sold.
You never hear bad news about the squad in the press.
Jovane Cabral didn't play much, was loaned out in transfer day and despite knowing he was on the way out (reports and what Amorim said was that the player wanted to have a chance to play in Italy), he was the one who picked up Rúben Amorim in the celebrations of the League Cup and made the group pick him up and throw him in the air.
Take a look on the team on the other side of the road and a group of players lead by Pizzi as been directly responsible for firing two managers, Bruno Lage and Jorge Jesus.
While JJ really was a terrible choice and definitely need to be fired, Lage (who shares one of my two surnames, wonder if we are related as it is an unusual surname) as been proving with Wolves that he is a pretty good manager.

He's supposed to take up some sort of advisory role to help our actual DoF mould the club.
But I'm thinking more and more that it's just window dressing however and he'll probably make a few reports to the Glazers, recommend a manager and some signings and get paid off to leave early.
Ralf is not DoF. We have a DoF (Murtough who is another Glazer's puppet).
He's in an advisor capacity in terms of "football philosophy" to implement a style and manager continuity.

DoF in all but name. He's quite considerably more qualified than this Murtough bloke. I mean "to implement a style and manager continuity", if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck etc. He might not be called a Director of Football, but we know that's exactly what he'll essentially be. Besides, the title isn't super important. He's obviously there to bridge the gap between the board and the pitch, the pitch hasn't been convincing, and neither has his first interactions with the board clearly.
Yeah, but the actual DoF initiates and negotiates deals, and has a direct line to the money. Ralf just sits in meetings and suggest targets or strategies to the sporting committee. He'll get overruled every time.
Another shit season and genuinely find it harder and harder to care how we do this season. We've got an interim manager and move on to another manager at the end. His role in the consultancy i'm guessing is to help guide Murtough on the football side of things but the club were never going to invest in players for a manager that won't be there in 3/4 months. There was an article in the Athletic about how Murt' wanted people around him to help with running the foootball side of things. What that exactly means I have no idea.
Apparently Lingard was told initially he could leave the club about 3 weeks ago, but those above (not Ragnick) wanted to make sure they got what they wanted out of Newcastle. Fair fucks to them, you want a player then pay up, its not like Newcastle haven't got the money but at least they aren't as stupid as we are with it. This Greenwood thing may have had an influence on if they let Lingard go but I doubt it had too much. Clubs weren't offering what the board wanted, so he stayed and either he came back into the squad or says he doesn't want to play (like he most likely did).
Ralph wanted him gone, he's been straight forward with this stuff but those above stopped that from happening imo.
Going forward a lot of this team needs clearing out and also the Ronaldo signing was a backwards step imo. Him potentially asking for a move in the summer would be fucking ideal. Next manager needs to come in and get it right in the market because there are now once again so many areas that need reinforcing (ST x2, CM, CDM, RB, CB).
Poch imo could probably do that and would trust him to use the academy. United isn't Spurs, but he's shown he can build a team and performed well in the PL. Don't think he had the best backing at Spurs financially (might be wrong) but they found the right targets. He'll probably get more financial backing at United - more so with the number of players most likely leaving in the summer.
This season as a whole has been shit. Only see it getting worse.

There's a lot stacked against any new United manager before he ever takes over. Firstly he's coming into a deeply unsettled side of which 7 or 8 players will probably leave this summer.
I think it’s better to prepare for another decade of failures and rebuild talk every summer.
Hopefully it gets so bad those vampires get tired of this European shit that can’t run like North American sport franchises and the club gets bought by some prince who has two nanny’s for each of his chimps.

By Cleff Go To PostIn Portugal they are thinking about playing the League Cup group stage during the World Cup.
We are in a bad place.
Ralf needed backing in the window - especially in the midfield area.
I hope a new buyer comes in and clears out upper management.

@cleff: will sexton still be playing at the next world cup? Doesn't seem to be an obvious successor.
