By markao Go To Posthe did beat a McLaren to win it, all you need to know about that fieldCredit where credit is due. Still a shit Formula driver though.
last few laps after restart he was possessed, but fully deserved it after his genassi tm8s both extremely silly threw it away
By MF Coom Go To PostCredit where credit is due. Still a shit Formula driver though.absolutely, Charles made him look bang average
But oval racing, like Indy500, is a little about tactic and mostly about the best set--up balance (low drag and still driveable) and the Genassi team this year had that hand down. If then two teammates, who were faster, pick up dumb penalties, you have to take that chance and he did.
If 5 years ago you would have put money on a Sergio/Ericsson double, you would be mega rich right now

After a break it is Race week again, Baku Azerbaijan.
Long straights and 90 degree corners and a slow section, so as low downforce as you can get away with that keeps rears just ok.
Wonder who will bounce the most at the end of the straight in FP1, great test for teams. Would say based on previous (low downforce rearwing) races this year, top end of max speed (drs open) advantage RBR, but have to wait to see what rear wing Ferrari brings. As always looking after rear tire (traction/temp--> wear) key for race pace, although last year teams that did that crashed ;). Sergio in general likes stop en go and 90 degree corners, wonder if that translate to another top weekend for him.
Wonder what Merc can do after they looked better in Barca, less porpoising, on a (bumpier)track like this. If control not means loosing to much on the slower sections of the track, top speed should be there.
Rest Midfield, Ferrari PU has the power, so can Kevin/Valteri take advantage of that top speed plus and Alpine also had great speed with DRS earlier in year, maybe Fernando can pull a surprise, after all it is Baku.

FP1:
- Ferrari hard-soft, RBR med-soft
- Ferrari quick s2 (like mIami), but looses all in S1/S3 (speed (pu mode)/bouncing?). In race will be to much again if cars are close imo
- Ferrari could do 2 push laps on the reds reds, RBR just 1 , already dropping off in the last bit (Max yellow flag 1st run on reds, 2nd run tires bit gone)
- Max with some wing- flapping with drs open, Sergio did not
- Lot of bouncing on straights (Merc/Fer/AT) and they also loose time in S1/S3, cannot help them
- Alpine lowest downforce and quickest S3
.- Mick water leak and Latifi no power (hydraulic)

FP2:
Ferrari with new lower downforce/drag rearwing bit closer to RBR on topspeeds in S3, but gaining less in S2. Ferrari did double warm-up lap, could be issue for Q3 (time, long lap) en Max 1st run was cut short by Sergio going of in T14/15?, so 2nd attempt lost few tenths because of best tires gone (just behind Charles my best guess) and Carlos could not get free all sectors clean lap in, similar to Sergio time all sectors combined.
Long run, only few laps, but similar pace and no talk about any degradation, own liga these two teams.
Mercedes fastest long run pace from midfield cars, both on mediums, but not on single lap pace (loose a lot S3). Fernando was fastest, both lap and speed with tiny rearwing. lost 9 tenths S2, but gained all on long straights, race pace was bit slower than Merc.
Ferrari need few extra Km/h if they don't want to be sitting ducks on straight, but with new wing it looks little better. Expect most teams to look at speeds from today, as gaps between some cars was huge.

best sectors, Charles s3 one was with mega tow.

FP3:
Hard to call, think Carlos also will be closer (needs to build up confidence a bit more than Charles), between them all and assuming Q will be single lap push it might come down to car that gets tires switched on quickly (and balanced front/rear) who will take pole, unless someone lucks in mega tow.
Last year we also had multiple reds/yellows and only one run in Q3, so maybe the luckiest one (max another two laps with flags or impeding) that get the free lap in might do it. And not quit sure who the lower temps, late afternoon session(track temp) , will suit more if at all.
Midfield close as always and a wrong yellow or a lucky tow will definitely get you through or just kick you out of a session.
And we might start 15 mins later with Q, due to later start FP3, if that 2 hour rule between sessions still exist.

Yeah, they said during FP3 that there would be two hours from when that ended.
Feeling Sainz is gonna make it 1-2.
Has been impressive, just needs to hook it up for a whole lap.

I swear a random Mclaren mechanic just had a Richard Mille on.
I know they sponsor, but wouldn’t have expected them to give them out.
Maybe I am mistaken, or it was someone high up.

Just seems you risk safety by having everyone rushing to get to the line.
