From an outsider's perspective the BBC is one of the great institutions. Multiple news, radio and TV services, which produces thousands of hours of original content, alongside domestic language channels for Scotland and Wales. The fact the Conservatives want to dismantle one of the last great bastions of British cultural power is maddening. So is the sizeable minority of people who seem in favour of it.
Sir David Attenborough documentaries alone are enough to save the beeb that and MoTD. Tories have been systematically dismantling public institutions and now they have even got liberals on their side.

I’m completely on board with them scraping the “TV license” and turning the BBC into a Netflix style subscription.
BBC really has gone down hill under the tories. Especially the news and sports websites which I'm sure Murdoch and other newspaper owners (who often employ Tory MPs) see as their biggest competitor as more and more people consume news online.
We went through pretty much the same thing with our public broadcaster 3 years ago. Conservatives tried to shut it down since forever but luckily it survived when got to vote on it.
