The speed at which the DNC is consolidating around Kamala makes me think these cowards have learned absolutely nothing from their past failures. Whatever little thought there was around an open convention is already out of the window. Cowards and idiots.

Harris made her “coconut tree” remarks on May 10, 2023 at the White House while swearing in the President’s Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics. Harris spoke about the importance of equity in education policy, noting that not all students are offered the same opportunities to succeed, depending on financial resources and the environments they are raised in. She said “none of us just live in a silo” and “everything is in context,” adding that creating educational equity also depends on providing for the needs of parents, grandparents and communities, before telling a personal anecdote near the conclusion of her speech. “My mother used to — she would give us a hard time sometimes, and she would say to us, ‘I don’t know what’s wrong with you young people. You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?’” Harris said, while laughing. “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”
Oh.
Yeah, the Charli recommendation is probably better than that. 🫠
By Laboured Go To PostSeems the GOP have so far come up with "we should be reimbursed for the money we spent attacking Biden" and "Kamala shouldn't be allowed to stand because she's not a Real American".Can't forget the classic they are rehashing which is when she described herself in a meeting with disability rights leaders

By reilo Go To PostThe big donors literally said it out loud a week ago my guy wtf pay attentionSaid what? That they aren’t funding Biden anymore? Yeah, I know that. It’s probably the main reason why he’s dropping out. Doesn’t diminish the fact that enthusiasm seems pretty high for Harris/not-Biden since the announcement, though.

But the gameplan really can't be to yas queen / things are fine now for someone who is essentially skipping two primary rounds after it was a proven fact that they couldn't even lock in their home state. And the best candidates we actually do have are more than happy to watch everything burn til we come crawling back in 2028. The base voter *is* alienated by this stuff.
5 mil a week before the DNC isn't a flex either. Its showing how far behind the curve we are
Democrats betting in short memories while putting a gun to voters heads doesn't have a high success rate. And it shouldn't take the same donors that were enamored with Beto's skateboard to be the catalyst in the first place either.
So idk. Maybe I'm missing something because looking at it plainly it seems like desperation that might last 45 days

But if all we care about is that we felt good about casting our votes rather than if it actually lead to winning the fucking thing, then cool, we learned absolutely nothing from 2016.

Does she pick up any of the margins? The people thinking Biden was too old but don’t like Trump. That’s the only thing that matters. Everyone one else is already sufficiently anti Dem / Trump and were locked in already
I have no fucking clue. It absolutely is a desperation attempt and they do need to move quick. They tried to weekend at Bernie’s an election against Trump and got caught
By DY_nasty Go To Postits almost like the money was withheld. curious
If the trending topics on The X are anything to go by, Black Twitter doesn't believe she's black because her birth certificate lists her father as Jamaican and her Indian born mother as Caucasian. So this doesn't qualify her to be listed as a "black American" when discussed on TV news. This is apparently a very important delineation to a specific pocket of folks.
Then you have the Asians that want to make sure it's made clear that she's Indian and not a Bruce Lee / Shogun / Samsung Asian.
It must be exhausting to be so concerned with your own place in life to have to be identified as a part of a group of strangers online. But yet that seems to be a major talking point for some.

Biden's path to victory had to be nil. The only thing guaranteed by this is that softens the blows through congress. But even there the next available people that could be VP picks of any real value aren't worth losing.
Visiting HBCUs means nothing when you're on record derailing families. You can't be pro blue collar then run interference for Sears as they screw a generation. You cant be Indian and forget what's kinda sorta frowned upon. She was catching flak for being conveniently black long before she was doing interviews begging to be asked about Tupac. Hell, she couldn't stand firm on abortion and healthcare access. Etc
Some of this is real alienation and going from crashing out to a speedrun campaign isnt something that gets solved easily even by decent candidates.

Dy you're not wrong but Biden was toast and Kamala (1) doesn't have dementia and (2) is the easiest candidate they can put in place on short notice who won't get insane pushback. That's pretty much the entire logic of what's happening right now, you're assuming way more thought went into her "selection" than actually did.
By Sharp Go To Postyou're assuming way more thought went into her "selection" than actually did.Don't want to speak for DY, but I don't think he's at all saying that -- in fact the opposite if anything. "No thought put into a transition plan earlier" is the core of the problem.
a lot of both
and maybe *i* am misunderstanding something or tripping. because the "gun to your head - now vote, bitch. and you better show up early with a smile" strategy from the DNC seems to have reached a new peak imo

By DY_nasty Go To Posta lot of bothI think attempting to convince people to vote for a guy without a functioning brain was the peak, replacing him at all is their recognition that this strategy has limits (and it still took Biden explicitly resigning or dying, they were never going to forcibly remove him from the ticket because the Democratic party is the party of incumbency). As imperfect of a candidate as Kamala is, she is at least an actual candidate who is presumably capable of making decisions independently of her handlers.

Kamala basically being the nominee less than twelve hours later is why the DNC is dumb as rocks at the most pivotal moments and how we got into this mess to begin with. At this point the USA is begging for a second Trump term and the DNC is ready to hand it to him.
Seeing people on the internet hyping up Kamala is wild.
As someone looking from the outside, it really doesnt seem that democratic voters are that much supporting Kamala, is it more that some are convincing themselves that she's the best bet?

Kamala is the name you know because the time frame is way to short to prop up some unknown.
Biden was losing some of the black voter base so this "should" help with that aswell.
It's a long shot but it's probably the best they can do?

Mediocre candidate, better than Biden, Dems feigning enthusiasm because nobody good wants to risk running this time around and 'not Trump' doesn't quite cut it the way they thought it would a few months ago.
Think that's about the size of it.

Shocked at how many people are acting like Kamala is a lay up and Trump is quivering in his boots. Even more shocked people actually pretending she’s a good person.
does anyone believe she's a layup?
i do think trump is a little bit rattled. their whole attack was biden is old and now he's the old guy against a much much younger opponent.
i still think he wins but i also think Kamala has a decent chance if she doesn't fuck it up. Trump is not that popular outside of his base.

i also don't think any good promising candidate would want to get burned on this so it makes sense to rally behind the obvious one instead wasting time searching among a pile of "i guess now is my only chance"-candidates.
obviously biden should have announced he is a one term candidate two years into the presidency so they wouldn't be in this mess rn but it is what is.
