Speaking with some of the military people I've volunteered with it sounds like I shouldn't be surprised to be on an FSB list somewhere. Although, I was probably on one before for my hentai porn.
Can you lads explain to me why abortion is still such a very hot topic in the US? I don’t follow the history of it too closely but it feels like most liberal democracies have already solved the issue there but in the US it’s still arguably the most vocal social issue.
By Old King Rob Go To PostIt wins Republicans electionsThat’s more of a result of abortion being such a wedge issue. I guess I’m essentially asking why does it win Republicans elections.

There’s not a real answer to that from my experience. It’s not even something they truly believe in, as anyone I’ve ever discussed that with has eventually changed their stance.
It’s just some bullshit talking point to get people going “yeah! Fuck the dumbocrats!” and nothing more.

It's complicated. You'll see reasons that lean on religious/moral grounds that its basically murder. You'll see arguments that it destabilizes communities by encouraging non-nuclear households. Other stuff such as abortion being offered allows doctors to undercut and act against a family's wishes/open abortion encouragement etc.... A lot of it is dumb. But overall it gives you a lot of angles to attack different progressive platforms all at the same time.
I'd actually be okay with a few individual anti-abortion stances from folks if they weren't tied to larger efforts to prevent that access to others.
I wouldn't say its a purely republican thing either tbh. Way too many democrats have proven time and time again that its one of the first areas they're willing to give ground.

The argument that life starts at birth and "trust science" is never going to counter it because tbh it is dismissive of those types of feelings. There's better ways to work around strong religious or moral (not logical) lines in the sand... Its been done before. American politics just make some things worse because we kinda need to have persistent issues.

Like for example I DO believe that education towards abortion is critical. Encouraging it at the very first glimmer of possible inconvenience is also really fucked up. As a voter, what type of plate am I going to be forcefed in election season? After 5 years? 20?
We're jackasses lol

This part specifically gets to what my question is. I understand and am aware of the reasons certain people are against abortion but it seems to me efforts to convince them of it have been failing badly compared to other social issues.

My approach to opening their eyes was never about whether its life or not. I don't believe it's life, but I know that won't convince them like you said. The thing with abortion though, whether you're looking at it from a moral perspective, financial, science, none of that really matters. There's no benefit to forcing people keep kids, they just need help realizing that.

The only stance that really can't be argued against is "fuck them, I just wanna see them suffer" but I'm not rich enough to be around those kind of people.

The political groups that should be doing the convincing haven't leveraged anything worth a damn to educate on the subject. There is no sort of push-back against the propaganda. No campaigns. No video messaging. No usage of social media. Just "vote for me, and we'll fix it" vibes, or none at all.
If you didn't vote for me, I'm not spending money to try and change it, so hold that: you're a lost cause. Biggest thing I relearned, being in the south, during the pandemic.

I am generous, and my love is their bedrock - how could you take away their purpose?" is definitely a rant I've sat through once or twice.

Religious folk have started claiming science states human life starts at conception, which technically it does. The issue has absolutely become weaponized by republicans which makes it worse. Fuck … we got folk in the US donating to Israel to speed up the apocalypse. Pat Robertson was just bloviating about it with Russian and Ukraine.
