Shit talk republicans and then end with a quote from JFK. That's the GOP nominee for the state of Maryland.

The European Union is getting closer to passing new rules that would mandate the bulk scanning of digital messages — including encrypted ones. On Thursday, EU governments will adopt a position on the proposed legislation, which is aimed at detecting child sexual abuse material (CSAM). The vote will determine whether the proposal has enough support to move forward in the EU’s law-making process.
The proposed solution is to leave messages wide open for scanning — but somehow without compromising the layer of privacy offered by end-to-end encryption. It suggests that the new moderation system could accomplish this by scanning the contents of your messages before apps like Signal, WhatsApp, and Messenger encrypt them.EU: At It™

I’m gonna need a lot more than “somehow”
By Pedja Go To PostHow was Apple going to do it?They generated a unique encrypted hash of the metadata of pictures only. And then compared it to a CSAM database of hashes. It would then go proceed through a CSAM system if ten or more such hashes were flagged on your phone.
The obvious drawback is that a fascist government could build a similar databases of hashes that are of images protesting their government and use it to flag protestors -- I'm sure China most likely has something like this already.

Looking back, praying in assembly was fucking weird. Would be surprised if 10% of us ended up devout in any religion, not just christianity.
Then again I still like Christmas and Easter having a presence in school, so my thoughts on state being seperated from church are pretty inconsistent and collapse under any scrutiny.

Grew up pretty void of religion myself but still got to have my presents under the tree day and dyed egg day with chocolate bunnies.

“It’s very telling that Rishi Sunak has not already done that. If it was one of my candidates they’d be gone and their feet not have touched the floor,” Starmer said on Thursday.
Starmer is so funny when he talks like this.
Why are these wankers delaying releasing the Trump immunity decision? The Supreme Court is such a stupid institution
The case started in 2019 when Zackey Rahimi, a drug dealer in Texas, assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to shoot her if she told anyone, leading her to obtain a restraining order. The order suspended Mr. Rahimi’s handgun license and prohibited him from possessing firearms.Thomas really showing his ass
Mr. Rahimi defied the order in flagrant fashion, according to court records.
He threatened a different woman with a gun, leading to charges of assault with a deadly weapon. Then, in the space of two months, he opened fire in public five times.
Upset about a social media post from someone to whom he had sold drugs, for instance, he shot an AR-15 rifle into his former client’s home. When a fast-food restaurant declined a friend’s credit card, he fired several bullets into the air.
The shootings led to a search warrant of Mr. Rahimi’s home, which uncovered weapons, and he was charged with violating a federal law that makes it a crime for people subject to domestic violence orders to possess guns.
Judge Wilson, who was appointed by President Donald J. Trump, wrote that the government’s insistence that it could disarm people who were not law-abiding “admits to no true limiting principle.”Incredible insight into a judge's brain what he thinks is a crime
“Could speeders be stripped of their right to keep and bear arms?” he asked. “Political nonconformists? People who do not recycle or drive an electric vehicle?”
Spoiler: none of those are crimes and only one of them is against the law depending on severity and it's up to police officers to even enforce it
What was significant, he wrote, quoting that decision, was that “our ancestors would never have accepted” the law on domestic violence orders.Incredible cunt
By FortuneFaded Go To PostSpeeding isn’t a crime? It's a civic infraction resulting in. fine unless it's past a very specific egregious point where it actually becomes a misdemeanor.
It's also selectively enforceable.
By reilo Go To PostIt's also selectively enforceable. That's true of all crimes.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostThat's true of all crimes. Not in the same way lol
But again, it's not technically a crime
By Laboured Go To PostEven the SC can't argue with "people who've repeatedly shown a propensity towards violence probably shouldn't have guns anymore." Well, except for Thomas, who is just on a run of contrarian and bitter jurisprudence.

"started talking trash," Rahimi drove to the man's home and shot into it. Brief for United States 3. While driving the next day, Rahimi collided with another car, exited his vehicle, and proceeded to shoot at the other car. Three days later, he fired his gun in the air while driving through a residential neighborhood. A few weeks after that, Rahimi was speeding on a highway near Arlington, Texas, when a truck flashed its lights at him. Rahimi hit the brakes and cut across traffic to chase the truck. Once off the highway, he fired several times toward the truck and a nearby car before fleeing. Two weeks after that, Rahimi and a friend were dining at a roadside burger restaurant. When the res- taurant declined his friend's credit card, Rahimi pulled a gun and shot into the air.
The police obtained a warrant to search Rahimi's resi- dence. There they discovered a pistol, a rifle, ammunition- and a copy of the restraining order.
The detectives passed the information to an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who filed a criminal complaint in federal court the next day. It seemed likely to be an open-and-shut case. A few months later, Rahimi pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in federal prison.
Forget his SC case, how is this guy only serving six fucking years? How can you do all of that and end up in jail for such a short amount of time? What is wrong with the States Attorney in Texas giving him a deal like that?

Amazing.
Israel’s supreme court has ruled unanimously that the military must begin drafting ultra-Orthodox men for military service, a decision that could lead to the collapse of prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s governing coalition as Israel continues to wage war in Gaza.
The court ruled that in the absence of a law that distinguishes between Jewish seminary students and other draftees, Israel’s compulsory military service system applies to the ultra-Orthodox as with any other citizens.
Under longstanding arrangements, ultra-Orthodox men have been exempt from the draft, which is compulsory for most Jewish men and women. These exemptions have long been a source of anger among the secular public, a divide that has widened during the eight-month-old war, as the military has called up tens of thousands of soldiers and says it needs all the manpower it can get.
Really find it remarkable how entrenched people’s political beliefs are. I cannot think of any party running a worse campaign than the Tories and a fifth of the electorate will still admit they’ll vote for them (and I think secret Tories will play out on election day and it won’t be as shattering a defeat as suggested).
