Is gerrymandering not a thing that concerns people outside of certain corners of the internet out of interest?
My aunt and uncle had never even heard of the concept when I asked about it, and they're reasonably politically aware otherwise, as well as being quite active in campaigning for racial equality.
Maybe it only tends to pop up in districts where it's obviously happening.

Gerrymandering is a tricky subject as it can be both good and bad.
In the case of Alabama, they have to gerrymander to create the second majority black district.

By Perfect Blue Go To PostI find it unreal that there isn’t a non-partisan entity in charge of drawing districts.
By Laboured Go To Posttoday in water is wet. the whole caring about the fetus argument always falls flat on its face when they gut prenatal care/assistance every time too lmao

It's the one shitty thing "liberals" are willing to do to stoop down to their level on it seems. If only they used these type of tactics more often maybe more people would wake up.

By NiceGuy Go To PostDo you know if any of it has gone on around Bowie? That's where they liveIt was the whole state outside of the District 1 which are farmers on the Eastern Shore. This election year will be the first with the newly drawn districts which actually resemble something that makes more sense.
We went from years of this:
To now this:
Bowie would now fall under district 4, but it was previously divided between 3 and 4.
The central part of the state that runs along the interstate 95 corridor is as solid blue as anywhere in the country. Bowie is directly on that corridor and is between Baltimore (largest city in the state) and Washington DC.
It's everything outside of that central section that is rural and chopped up.
If you look at the first image you can see a little island that grabs the city of Fredrick (the largest city in western Maryland) directly below the #8. Why would district 6, representing multiple counties, need to jump up and grab a highly populated city? It's because everything West of Fredrick is basically West Virginia and those people want nothing to do with the blacks and browns that are associated with the metro areas. So in order to eliminate their voices from any civilized conversations they get flushed out via what is very clearly gerrymandering in favor of liberal law makers. Yay!
You'll notice the new map keeps the city of Fredrick in district 6, but this time they just lumped in the entire fucking county. They are not pleased. But the numbers added up and the courts gave these new lines the go-ahead.
