Didnt they just tell a bunch of young college grads who can’t find work to start accepting a rural life as reality?
By Pedja Go To PostLike what?Preference for a male heir which now they are suffering from an overabundance of lack of eligible women to marry
Preference to stay within the family before marriage
Dowries are still a thing and hard for poorer rural families to afford
Rising inequality
To start with

For one thing, they're forcibly sterilising their male Uyghur population.
I think the biggest reason is probably something similar to Japan and Korea in that women are way more educated than the past and have tons more options now than just churning out babies in a patriarchal society. Unaffordability and rising cost of childcare is up there too.
The difference is that Japan and Korea are developed, rich, high income countries but China is still developing. That’s a unique problem.

Also childcare isn't really an issue in China as the same family structures that contribute to some of their issues also mean that grandparents are always expected to be on hand to take care of the children

As for childcare, you can see from a 10 second Google search: https://www.reuters.com/world/china/chinas-child-rearing-costs-far-outstrip-us-japan-research-2022-02-23/
Edit: sorry just noticed I said childcare I meant child-rearing

New York City is rolling out a plan to convert vacant offices into as many as 20,000 new housing units by creating a multi-agency group to help developers cut through red tape and rezoning a section of Manhattan known as Midtown South.Lessgo more housing for richies to invest in vacant properties
The moves come after Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul’s quest for an ambitious program to address the state’s housing shortage was rebuffed by fellow Democratic lawmakers in Albany earlier this year. Much of Adams’s plan will still need state approval.

Hoping the Georgia trial is televised.
State of play: Georgia law requires that cameras be allowed during judicial proceedings with a judge's approval. Cameras are seen as an important aspect of transparency.
A judge would need a compelling reason — such as a juvenile victim or witness — to bar them, per Atlanta News First. Neither are likely to apply.
Under Georgia's rules, the public could be able to watch Trump's potential arraignment — as well as an entire potential criminal trial, per NBC News.
That's not been the case in federal and New York courts, where Trump's other indictments have taken place.

The company sought protection under chapter 15 of the US bankruptcy code, which protects its US assets while it attempts a restructuring deal.
For months Evergrande has been working on an offshore debt restructuring agreement and it unveiled a proposal earlier this year. It offered creditors a choice to swap their debt into new notes issued by the company and equities in two subsidiaries, Evergrande Property Services Group and Evergrande New Energy Vehicle Group.
Last month, however, Evergrande posted a combined loss of $81bn for 2021 and 2022, prompting worries about the viability of the debt restructuring plan.

There are people who seriously believe that a former president of the United States will be sentenced or serve a prison term.
We spoke to the lead consultant in the unit - who first raised concerns about Letby - and also examined hospital documents. The investigation reveals a catalogue of failures and raises serious questions about how the hospital responded to the deaths. Some people need to be tossed into the cell next to her fuck this.
Dr Brearey says he demanded Letby be taken off duty in June 2016, after the final two murders. Hospital management initially refused.
The BBC investigation also found:
The hospital's top manager demanded the doctors write an apology to Letby and told them to stop making allegations against her
Two consultants were ordered to attend mediation with Letby, even though they suspected she was killing babies.
They've been in healthcare long enough too, to know the difference between someone who is just a fuck up vs malicious as well and they went to management about someone being that calculated and murdering babies on their shift.
Im for the death penalty, but make it brutal for people who are 100 percent guilty like that bitch above. You deserve a brutal slow death if you're killing babies
And some people don’t want to deal with maintenance or the nuisance of raking up leaves.https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/20/us/trees-heat-wave-new-haven-ct.html
